Oretha Mae Beckett Vance, 84, of Saint Albans, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 surrounded by a host of family and friends.
Born November 8, 1926 in Peach Creek, WV, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Leona Beckett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ermond (Jiggs) Vance; sister, Arnetta Hale; and brother, Arnold Beckett.
She is survived by four children: her daughters and their husbands, Paula and Emory Smith of St. Albans, WV and Dianna and Dean Fultz of Gallipolis, OH and her sons and their wives James and Barbara Vance of Culloden, WV, and State Command Sergeant Major WVNG Lawrence and Ute Vance of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by her sister Jean Curry of Gallipolis, OH and her brother Ronald Keith Beckett of Cheboygan, MI, numerous nephews and nieces and by her legacy of 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was a member of Twin City Baptist Church, Nitro, WV and attended Kings River Worship Center in St. Albans, WV. Oretha was loved deeply by her enormous family and admired by many. Her smile would brighten any room. She will be sadly missed by all who met her. She leaves behind a godly example of the love she shared with so many.
Services will be held Friday, September 16, 2011, at 1:00pm at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with her grandson, Pastor Nicholas Vance officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 15th, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock.

My Mother thought the world of your Mother, Oretha. I met her a few times at reunions, and she was a wonderful person! I know you all will sadly and fondly remember her.
