Jennifer Irene Daniels, 50, of Wharton, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Jennifer formerly attended Alum Creek Church of Christ and was a former employee of Grant’s Grocery Store in Wharton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry & Nora Tackett Beach.

Jennifer is survived by her husband of 25 years, Andrew; stepson, Andrew (Lisa) Daniels, Jr.; stepdaughter, Delilah Mae Daniels; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lisa Renee Dunlap Pauley

Lisa Renee Dunlap Pauley, 58, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 10, 2022, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Lisa was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. She loved flower gardening, crafting, and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Dunlap; sister, Amy Dunlap; brother, Kevin Dunlap; grandparents, Ralph & Ocie Gillenwater and Lonnie & Beedie Dunlap.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Allen Pauley; mother, Joyce (Ray) Dunlap Jarrett; daughter, Tina (Brent) Miles; son, Andrew (Maxine) Pauley; grandchildren, Cynthia, Andy, McKenzie, & Karmen; brother, Greg (Sherry) Dunlap.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley & Mark Ruby officiating. Burial will follow at Hayzlett Cemetery, Garretts Bend. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Connie Wyonna Pauley

Connie Wyonna Pauley, 83, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center.

Connie was the oldest member of Hilltop Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from South Charleston High School and retired as a longtime employee of CAMC Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and brother, John J. Bowles.

Connie is survived by her children, Melondy Holbert and Ed (Kim) Pauley; grandchildren, Shannon Holbert, Taylor Tafoya, and Toryn Pauley.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Jim Lennox and Doris Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Due to COVID, the family requests masks be worn.

Brian McClure

Brian McClure, 46, of Alkol, WV went home to be with the Lord after a sudden illness, Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and father, Alton & Barbara McClure of Alkol; his sister, Blaire (Robbie) Anderson, of Charleston; his son, Tyler (Jane) of Charleston, his son, Tanner of Sod; grandson, Atlas of Charleston; and his niece, Gracelyn Anderson of Charleston. He also leaves behind a host of cousins who he grew up with and loved them like brothers and sisters.

Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Amos & Florence Smith of Rock Creek, WV; his paternal grandparents, Boyd & Barbara McClure of Alkol; uncles, Cecil, Randy and Averrill McClure; cousin, Jon Eric McClure of South Point, OH; and infant cousin, Andrew McClure.

Brian was a friend to everyone he met. He loved his family and friends deeply and cherished his sons and grandson with his whole heart. He loved his job and the people he worked with and his special work buddies, R.D., Georgie, and Josh. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He will be missed greatly and will forever be in our hearts!

Service will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Brandon McClure & Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at the McClure Family Cemetery, Alkol. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Joseph Sanford Stephens

Joseph Sanford Stephens, 56, of St. Albans, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at home.

Joe was a 1983 graduate of Duval High School and a former employee of Martin Steel & WV Steel. He was a steel detailer and worked for many companies across the U.S. on projects such as Disney Animal Kingdom, The Tree of Life, and the Pentagon. He was an avid fisherman and an accomplished wood worker.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Emily McClure Stephens; brothers, Clifford and Richard Pauley; and sister, Teresa Pauley Minnie.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Damron Stephens; daughters, Amanda (Chris) Holland of Baltimore, MD, Emily-Ann Stephens of Pittsburgh, PA, and Monica Stephens Warner of Newport, OR; granddaughters, Patricia and Georgia; sister, Sonja (Tom) Moss of Ocean Shores, Washington; brother, Steve (Sheila) Pauley of Benton, AR. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek.

Cheryl Graley Redman

Cheryl Graley Redman, 66, of Sumerco, passed away, Saturday, January 8, 2022, after a long illness. 

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, George and Eloise Graley; and brother, Roy.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Howard; son, Shane (Kristen) Redman; grandchildren, Tyler (Kaitlyn) Redman, Shayna and Piper Redman, and Gaige Searls; siblings, Barry (Brenda), Terry (Francis), Fitz (Debbie), Brian (Karen); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Cliff Thaxton officiating.  Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen Hall Parsons

Helen Hall Parsons, 85, of Charleston, formerly of St. Albans, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the home of her daughter, Sheila, where she had been residing since the fall of 2021.

Our mom grew up in the Spring Hill, South Charleston area and graduated from South Charleston High School class of 1953 at the age of 16. She moved to St. Albans in 1965 where she lived until 2012. At that time, she moved to Charleston to be close to her daughter Lisa. She attended West Virginia State College. She was a homemaker. She attended Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Helen loved writing poetry, which was always about faith and family. She also loved reading and watching old TV reruns of Andy Griffith and the Waltons and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. Her greatest joy was being mom, helping out with her grandchildren, and being with family. She really enjoyed watching the horses and dogs from the front porch swing.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Hall and Clara Hall Mullins, her son-in-law, Michael D. Trader and her grandson, Seth Michael Trader.

Helen is survived by her sons, Mike (Matina) of Scott Depot, Patrick (Renie) of Bluffton, SC and her daughters Sheila Trader and Lisa Lawson (Bruce), of Charleston. Sisters Anna Hall Rucker of Middleburg, FL and Ruth Hall Spradling and brother-in-law Alan Spradling of St. Albans. Grandchildren Clint Parsons, Austin and Lucas Parsons, Haley Lucas, Lesley Robinson (Eric) and Noah and Josie Lawson. Great grandchildren Chloe and Chace Parsons and Adaline Lucas. Also survived by her former husband and close friend, Carl Parsons.

Special thanks to Hospice Care especially Kim Cyrus, Jennifer Kirsch and Brooke Boggess.

Services will be Saturday, 2pm January 8th at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 701 MacCorkle Ave. SW, St. Albans, WV 25177 with visitation one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her parents and grandparents at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV. Officiating will be Pastors Mike Hager and John White.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W. Charleston, WV 25312 or Faith Missionary Baptist Church, P. O Box 346, St. Albans, WV 25177 will be greatly appreciated.

Nancy Carol Glenn Nolan

Mrs. Nancy Carol Glenn Nolan, age 87, of Molena, passed away January 1, 2022, at her home. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia, daughter of the late John Glenn and Ima Edith Means Glenn. Mrs. Nolan was a long-time member of Davis Creek Nazarene Church in South Charleston. For 14 years, she worked at Cohen Drug Stores, 10 years at the Legal Aid Society both in Charleston, and 10 years as a switchboard operator at Charleston Area Hospital. She moved to Molena 17 years ago to be near her family. Mrs. Nolan was the most excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for herself and her family. She loved family, traveling, animals, makeup, sewing and anything fashion. Nancy enjoyed travel and loved to share her outrageous stories.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Lee Glenn.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Mary Catherine Brown and Richard Alan Brown; granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Rebekah and John Hanson; grandson and granddaughter-in-law: R. J. and Joanne Brown; great-granddaughters: Elizabeth, Georgia, Audrey and Charlize.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Daniel W. Backus

Daniel W. Backus, 65, of Weston, formerly of Charleston, died Friday, December 31, 2021, as the results of injuries received in an accident. He was known as “Timmy” by his family members.

Dan was a 1975 graduate of Charleston High School. He was employed by Europtech in Clarksburg, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Jeanette Studebaker Backus; two brothers, Steve and Roger.

He is survived by his son, Daniel W. Backus, Jr.; sister, Kay (Gary) Coiner; brothers, Glenn Backus and Stanley (Sandy) Backus; grandchildren, McKenzie and Kyler; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Backus Family Cemetery located in Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV with Pastor Clyde Gwin officiating. In accordance with COVID protocols, the family requests that masks be worn.

Zackriah Pauley

Zackriah Pauley, 72, of Nellis, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 30, 2021, at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Edith Pauley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rachel; son, Dewayne (Sherry), daughter, Regina (Jimmy) Davis, son, Zackie Ray (Julie), and son, Jerry. Also surviving are sisters, Virginia Kinder and Mary Akers; brother, Kenneth Dunlap; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

We want to thank Melanie Martin, Libby Smith, and Mary Lefasher from Kanawha Hospice for their services. The family would also like to thank Betty Javins of Ashford for all her help she gave in time of need.
