Michelle StoverMichelle Lynn Stover, of Charleston, left us to soon at the age of 42 on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

She was a loving daughter and mother; and  a  lifelong resident of the Davis Creek – Charleston area who was known for her loving and uplifting personality.

Michelle was preceded in death by her father, Roger Boyd Stover; grandparents, Boyd Stover and Hillory &  Beulah Hill.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Hitchcock; daughter, Hillary Beth Hitchcock; mother, Aracoma Hill; brother, Boyd (Cynthia) Stover; and grandmother, Ruth Stover LeBlanc.

Service will be  12:00 p.m.  Wednesday, February 1, 2017  at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Larry McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

 

Darleen Holstien

Darleen Holstein, 62, of South Charleston went to be with her Lord on  Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at home.

She retired from the WV State Library Commission with 21 years service.  Darleen attended the Alum Creek Church of Nazarene and was a 1973 graduate of George Washington High School.

Darleen is survived by her son, Colin (Anita) Holstein; sister, Almeda (Bill) Kelly; brothers, Joseph (D.J.) Deweese, Fred M. (Diane) Holstein and Kevin (Mary) Holstein; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2017  at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Ronnie Gibson officiating.  Burial will follow at Brounland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

David Adam Pauley

david Pauley photoDavid Adam “Bubby” Pauley, 27, of Emmons  passed away Wednesday January 18, 2017 at home.

He was a 2009 graduate of George Washington High School.   Bubby loved riding his 4-wheeler, fishing, and hunting with his dad and his dogs.

Bubby is survived by his parents, David and Lori Pauley; sisters, Laura (Bobby) Nicholas and Emily Pauley; grandparents, Emma Pauley and Laura Wilson; niece and nephews, whom he dearly loved, Chailyn, Damien and Cody; and also his special uncle, Clyde.  He will be greatly missed by all  his family who loved him dearly.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017  at the Emmons Church of God with Pastor Charles Baileys officiating.  Burial will follow at the Gillispie Cemetery, Emmons.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the funeral service.

Donald Ray Dunlap

Our loss is Heaven’s gain, Donald Ray Dunlap, 87, of McCorkle, left this world in the arms of angels Friday, January 20, 2017 at home.

He was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. Donald was a retired coal miner from Y & O Coal Company and a proud member of the UMWA. He also worked several years with the Laborers Local. Donald enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Omazell Dunlap; siblings, Aubrey, Dennis, Ilene, Marie and Nellie Jean; and infant daughter, Kimberly A.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; children, David Dunlap, Meddie Ray “Jigs” (Patty) Dunlap, Donald “Coco” Nelson Dunlap, Charlene (Jacky) Dunlap, Peggy (Jerry) Marker and Russell Dunlap; sister, Neva Bell Stump; grandchildren, Debbie (John) Estep, Donna Dunlap, Donald Dunlap, Kim (Chad) Board, Kristy (Randy) Wright, Kari (Barry) Roberts, Donny (Melody) Dunlap, Chris Dunlap, Paula (Brett) Matthews, Jason (Lorie) Dunlap, Jerrick (Brooke) Marker, Heather (Chad) Antill and Justin Dunlap; great grandchildren, Tiffany, Tim, John, Derick, Ericka, Allie, Patrick, Cecil, Dorothy, Kelley, Caleb, Connor, Katelyn, Payton, Reece, Lakynn, Brayden, Braxton, Emily, Joshua, Koree, Cody, Jerrick, Rayleigh, Addison and James; great great grandchildren, Sophia, Rowan, Berkley and Delaney.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Ronnie Scott and Roe Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank and recognize Dr. Scott Smith and the staff at Alum Creek Medical Center for all their help. Also home health care nurses, April and Brian.

FFrances McCallisterrances Katherine McCallister, 78, daughter of the late James Everett “Fuzzy” McCallister and Mary Wavie Dunlap McCallister, went home to meet our Lord and Savior on January 14, 2017.

Formerly of Sod, WV, Frances had resided in Grapevine, TX since 2003. She was a graduate of Duval High School, 1957. At a young age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and became a life long member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

Frances will be remembered as a wonderful example of a loving daughter to her parents, and a good sister. She loved her favorite TV shows, reading, music (especially Elvis), and most of all, to travel. She traveled extensively with her only sister after moving to Texas in 2003.

Her beautiful memory and example of a loving sister will be remembered by her only sibling, Brenda Joyce McCallister Holloway (Sanford) of Bedford, TX; niece, Chrissy Shannon Carder (Jeff) of Grapevine, TX; nephews, Cory Liberto and Hunter Carder of Grapevine, TX, and many friends in the Grapevine community….and a host of cousins and friends in West Virginia….her “home”.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Roe Smith officiating.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

The family invites you to join them for a Committal Service at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV immediately following the service, where Mark Nelson, Bagpiper, will perform.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The American Heart Association or The Diabetes Association.

 

Doris Jean Mickles

Doris MicklesDoris Jean Mickles, 78, of St. Albans passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at home.

She graduated from Stoco High School and W. Va. Rehabilitation Center.   Doris was a 15 year employee at the WV Board of Registered Nurses and previously employed by John W. Eye Furniture Co. and Stats Hospital.

Doris was a member of the Pilot Club,  the Women of the Red Hat Club and the Moose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony.

Doris is survived by son, Troy Mickles.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Jesse Perdue officiating.   Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

 

WhittingtonRavenell Joyce  Turley Whittington, 79, of Charleston passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at CAMC General MICU in Charleston.

She was a 1955 graduate of Washington District High School.  She loved to play her guitar and sing gospel music.  Ravenell was a Nazarene by faith and attended Hissom Tabernacle in recent months.

Ravenell was preceded in death by her parents, James Paul & Ethel Loftus Turley, husbands, Bennie Turley and Lawrence Whittington.

She is survived by sons, Johnny, Charles and Kelly (Jean) Turley; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; brothers, James and Eugene Turley; sisters, Juanita DeBord, Norma Blankenship and Carol Linger.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with her son, Kelly Turley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the funeral services.

 

Ruth Ellen Cornell

17008 CornellRuth Ellen Williams Cornell, 84, of Alkol, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at home, surrounded by her family.  She had been ill for several months and passed away from renal failure.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, Archie & Angie Williams; and sisters, Nellie McClure, Carrie Johnson and Cornia Loftis Tribble.

She was a Christian, and a retired teacher from Kanawha County Schools.  She helped to write the pilot program for the WV history curriculum.

Ruth is survived by her son, Andrew Buel Cornell, Fredericksburg, VA;  daughter, Karen Cornell Raines, Savannah, GA; brother, John (Jean) Williams, Dayton, OH and   sister, Ann (Carl) Egnor, Sumerco, WV;  and also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew, Jr., Rebecca, Katie & Sandra; and one great-grandson, Benjamin.

Services will be 11:00am, Wednesday, January 18th at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Chuck Adkins and Dwight McClure officiating.  Burial will follow at the Pauley Cemetery, Woodville.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Stepping Stones Canine Fosters WV, 6918 Heritage Dr., Charleston, WV 25312.  The family would like to thank the staff of CAMC – Charleston General Hospital and Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville.

Madge Hill

Madge Hill (2)Madge Hill, 86, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord and reunited with her family on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Hubbard Hospice House-West at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Madge retired from Division of Water Resources after 25 years of service.  She was a member of Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with all her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hill, Jr.; parents, Ballard & Dessie Charles; and son-in-law Rev. Stevie Egnor.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Belcher; grandchildren, Todd (Shannon) Egnor and Tonya (Ricky) Justice; great-grandchildren, Brandon (Kacey) Justice, Jackson Egnor, Chelsea (Travis) Gibson, Kirstan Justice and Joshua Justice; great-great grandchildren, Jayleigh Egnor, Colton Justice, Kaden Gibson, & Koen Gibson and two of her close and dearest friends, Georgie Blankenship and Deana Hensley.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Ron Scott officiating.  Burial will follow at Madison Memorial Gardens at Low Gap.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

William A. Griffith

William GriffithWilliam A. “Griff” Griffith, 93, of South Charleston died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

He retired from Union Carbide of South Charleston and was a graduate of Morris Harvey College with a major in Art.  Griff  was a Tech Sergeant during WWII  in the U. S. Army Air Corp.  flying in over 60 missions during the war time.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fayelda and brothers, Bob and Ted.

Griff is survived by his son, William A. II and his wife, Susan; daughter, Jan Griffith; great granddaughter he raised as his daughter, Hope; three granddaughters, Archele, Michele and Heather; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Michael Tucker officiating.  Burial will follow at Brua Family Cemetery in South Charleston with military graveside honors.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
