Robert Lee (Bob) Strickland, 81, of Beckley, formerly of Elkview, WV, was born March 21, 1935 and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
Bob was a graduate of Elkview High School and earned two degrees in Automotive Technology and one degree in General Studies at Northern Virginia Community College. He retired as a Technical Sargeant with over 22 years in the U.S. Air Force as a photo processing systems technician; he also retired after 16 years with Raytheon (E-Systems) as an Electro Mechanical Technician. Bob worked at Cummins Atlantic on installing and servicing generators; worked 10 years at the Northwood Mall Food Court in North Charleston, SC, with 2 years as manager; and finally retiring to the Beckley, WV area in 2005 to be near his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 37 years, Patricia; parents, John (Wes) and Nada Adkins Strickland; brothers, Russell Strickland and Infant Strickland, born and died June 1931.
Surviving are his sister, Lorine Smith of Alum Creek; daughters, Denise (Chad) Brown of Hamlin, Pam (Dale)Good of Charleston and Angela Knapp of St. Albans; sons, Tim (Natalie) Strickland of Elkview, Leo (Teresa) Strickland of So. Charleston and Roger Strickland of Elkview; grandsons, James (Mandy) Strickland and family of Lincoln, NE, Michael Strickland of Lincoln, NE, Chadd Strickland of So. Charleston, Dillon (Alizabeth) Strickland of So. Charleston, Paul (Bub) Priestley II (Jenn) of Hurricane, Christian “Ian” Strickland of St. Albans and Logan Cantley (Allison) of St. Albans; and step-grandson, Travis Tyler of St. Albans; granddaughters, Crystal (Arthur) Mullins of Yawkey, Misha (Erik) Cobb of Hurricane , Roxanna Cantley (Jeremy) of Charleston, Britany and Shana Knapp of Fort Worth, TX, Diamond Strickland of Cross Lanes, and Melody (Kane) Wimer of Clendenin; step-granddaughters, Amanda and Allison Tyler of St. Albans; great-grandsons, Tyler and Brandon Cobb of Hurricane, Camden Strickland of Lincoln, NE Liam Strickland of So. Charleston, Jaymes Wimer of Clendenin; great granddaughters, Carissa and Caleigh Mullins of Yawkey, Skylar Cantley of St. Albans, Kate Wimer and Kiara Seabolt of Clendenin and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dan McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Proctor Family Cemetery, Elkview, with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
