Sultanna “Kay” Graley, 54.  of South Charleston, took her final road trip on Thursday, May 24, 2012 after a short illness.

She was preceeded in death by her mothers,  Dorothy Moore and Susie Meadows;  and fathers,  Rufus Moore and Sam Meadows.

Kay is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, William Edward Graley Jr.; son, Jeremy Graley and his wife, Angela Graley;  daughter,  Tiffany Graley and her fiancé,  Joe Vickers and a “mom” to many more.

She also had 5 grandchildren that she cherished more than life itself, Jeremy, Savannah, Avery, Sam, and Sophia. Also surviving are her brothers,  William T. Shamblin, Clifford Shamblin, Lovell Meadows, Bill Meadows and Rick Meadows and wife, Lori; sisters, Joan Matthews and Dawnita Chandler, and numerous nieces, nephews and a few very special friends. Kay was an amazing woman who touched so many lives and will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 29th at 1:00 pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Jr. Holley officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.   Family  and friends will gather from 11:00 – 1:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Robert W. Bradshaw

Robert W. Bradshaw,79, of Garretts Bend died May 14, 2012 after a long illness.

Born in Glasgow, WV, son of the late Wesley C. and Alice Bradshaw. Also preceded in death by his wife Wilma Lee Bradshaw, sister Clarice Linkous, stepdaughter, Jane Ann Curry, grandson Corey Bradshaw, step granddaughter, Michelle Midkiff.

Bob retired from AEP with 35 years of service and Nitro Electric after 20 years. He was an electrical engineer. He served in the Korean War and as a member with the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, NC.

He is survived by daughter Janet Bradshaw of Orlando, FL, stepdaughter, Bronda (Rick) Adkins of St. Petersburg, FL, stepson Mark (Gail) Midkiff of St. Albans, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jane (Fred) Walker of Goose Creek, S. Carolina and Willa Jean Bradshaw, of Rand, WV and one brother, Ronald (Betty) Bradshaw of Gandeeville, WV.

Some of Bob’s happiest times were at his camp in Pocahontas County while hunting and fishing. His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered there. A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Thursday May 17 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, with Minister Joseph Watts officiating.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Josephine Pauley Clark

Josephine Pauley Clark, 68, of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord surrounded by loved ones on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after a long illness.

She attended Merritts Creek Church.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Rev. Monroe “Esmond” Pauley; parents, Fred and Mary Fancy Dunlap; four brothers, Cecil, Elmer, Dean and Bill; sister, Wanda.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer Clark; son, Shawn (Teressa) Pauley of Julian; daughter, Bennesa Pauley (Frank Mitchell) of Charleston; brothers, Cline and Charles Dunlap and sister, Shirley Smith; Eight grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Cayden, Samantha, MacKenzie, Caleb, Corey and Courtney; step-children, Tony, Susie, Ray, Chris and Mark Clark.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 16th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek . Burial will following in Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Hubbard Hospice House, Dr. Haffar and Dr. Nicole Wiley.

Brenda S. Garnes

Brenda S. Garnes, 51, of South Charleston, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Hospice West, South Charleston after a long illness.

She served the community as a volunteer at Ruthlawn Elementary School for 7 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Ray Roberts.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ted, daughter, Mandy Garnes and son, Brandon Wood Garnes, her mother, Macel Roberts and two brothers, Gordon (Gretta) Roberts and Kevin (Stacy) Roberts, Aunt: Billie Means, and many other loving family members.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Curry Funeral Home Chapel. There will be no other service.

 

Heather Nicole Adkins-Baldwin, 33, of Sod went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dwayne Adkins and sister, Stephanie Adkins.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney; two sons, Jacob and Justin; mother and father, Bonnie and Melvin Pauley of Woodville; siblings, Dwayne (Cheryl) Adkins, Brian (Kim) Adkins, Katrina Miller, Timmy (Julie) Adkins, Crystal Lovejoy, Brooke (Scott) Terlikowski, Kari (Matt) Wood, Sherri (Tony) Adkins-Lovejoy, Shandi (Luke) Pauley-Glenn, Emily (Adam) Humphreys and Wes (Nikki) Pauley.

There will be a time for family and friends to visit from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, May 14th, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.. A private service will be held at a later date.

Ruby Alice Cantley

Ruby Alice Cantley, 75, of Alum Creek went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at home after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and a member of Briar Creek Baptist Church.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Cantley.

She is survived by her sons, Roger (Betty) and Joe (Debbie) Cantley; special friend, that she loved as a sister, Doris Roberts; three grandchildren, Jimmy, Rachel and Little Joe; four great grandchildren, Evan, Katie and John Braden Cantley and Reidyn Ellis; special nephew, Vincent Cantley.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Joe Cantley and Rev. Bob Jett officiating. Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Brayden Maxwell Napier

Brayden Maxwell Napier, infant son of Bradrick and Eva Napier, went home to Jesus Monday, May 7, 2012 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

He is also survived by two brothers, Colton and Wyatt; two sisters, Madison and Hadleigh. Maternal grandmother, Julia Doran; paternal grandfather, Kenneth Napier; aunt, Maty Doran; uncles, Thomas and Paul Napier.

Graveside service will be 3:00 pm Friday, May 11, 2012 at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey with Pastor Kenny Townsend officiating.

 

Melvin Wyane Nelson

Melvin Wayne Nelson, 47 of Alum Creek passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his father Milburn Nelson.

Wayne was a TSI Corporation employee with the WV Army National Guard in Charleston and was a former employee of Pitt Ohio Express.

He is survived by his wife; Amber, mother; Sissie Nelson of Alum Creek, brother; Mark Nelson of South Charleston, sisters; Cindy Nelson of South Charleston and Yvonne “Dawn” Browning of Charleston.

At Wayne’s request, services will be private.

Ronald Stutler

Ronald (Red) Stutler, 87, of St. Albans and recently Knoxville, TN passed from this life Monday, April 30, 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; daughter, Linda (Jim) Maines of Knoxville, TN where he lived the past six months; grandson, Robert Maines and great-grandchildren Lauren and Rees Maines all of Kokomo, Indiana.

He started attending Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at the age of six and received Christ as his Saviour in 1952, where he later served as a deacon and remained faithful until his health failed. He was retired from Columbia Gas Systems after-which he and his wife volunteered at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

The following is a tribute from his grandson, “Ronald Stutler was a good man. A WWII Army Veteran, part of a dying breed, that served his country honorably and with distinction in the South Pacific, seeing things that would scar him for life. He was a man strong in his Christian Faith, who was the Adult Sunday School teacher at Pleasant Hill for many years, and lead the choir on Sunday mornings. He took me fishing as a kid. He was my maternal grandfather, my Pawpaw. This morning he passed from this world to be with the Lord in Heaven where he will finally be free of the heartaches and burdens of this life, and know God’s peace and comfort at last.”

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Tornado with Pastors Butch Leadman, Fred Connery and Tim Campbell officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites conducted by St. Albans Service Organizations at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 – 1:00 pm at the church.

Terry Michael Hill

 Terry Michael Hill, 61, of Alum Creek passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bradford and Cledith Thompson Hill.

He was a self employed contractor, and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 AF & AM, Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine, Beni Kedem Highlanders and Royal order of the Jesters.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Yvonne Ingram Hill; daughter, Johnna (Brian) Fowler of Alum Creek; sons, Brad (Rebekah) of Alkol and Danny (Christina) of St. Albans. Grandchildren Hayden, Gretchen, Braylea, Macy, Dylan, Jaycob and granddaughter, Hannah, due to be born in June.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Cemetery, Alkol with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 AF & AM and also Military Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. Family and friends will gather two hours prior at the funeral home.
