Sylvia Bragg Klocke, 82 of Duluth, GA and formerly of Columbus, OH and Sod, WV went home to be with the Lord Saturday July 14, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Vesta Hall Bragg and brothers Kelly and Calvin Bragg.

She is survived by her children Mike (Peggy) Smith of Duluth, GA, Pat (Betty) Smith and Holly (Steve) Coats all of Columbus, OH, sister Maxine Neal of Sod, brothers Carl Bragg of TN, Alan Bragg of FL and Ted Bragg of Sod, grandchildren Billy (Janna) Smith, Christian Smith, Jeremy (Brandy) Smith, Christina (Erik) Preston, Steven Coats, Mikey Pitre, Niki (Cameron) Stano and several great grandchildren, niece’s and nephews.

Service will be 11:00 am Thursday July 19, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery at Sod.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jean Meadows

Jean Meadows, 75, of Alkol, WV, went home on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Nella’s Nursing Home, Elkins after a long illness.    She was a certified EMT and firefighter.  She was prceeded in death by her son, Anthony Tony Meadows, and husband, Bernard L. “Shorty” Meadows.

She is survived by one grandson, T.J. Meadows, step-granddaughter, Amber Holestin, and  four great-grandchildren, and  two sisters, Patty Walls and Gerri Clay,  a very special niece, Sandy (Roger) Richmond, and a host of friends and family.

At Jean’s request there will be a private graveside service with Rev. Wayne Thompson officiating at Meadows Family Cemetery at Alkol.  Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.curryfuneralhome.org

James “J.R.” Clark

James (J.R.) Clark, 57, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

J.R. enjoyed life, hunting and the outdoors, especially spending time with his granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons: Jonathan (Nicole) and Christopher (Jennifer) Clark; granddaughter, Khloe Dawn.

Service will be 11:00 am Monday, July 9, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with best friend Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate  contributions toward to the funeral service.

 

Nina Nunn Turley

Nina Nunn Turley, 93, of Alum Creek born April 7, 1919 went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary  Baptist Church.  Nina was a wonderful mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She was loved the Lord and was longing for Him to call her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Turley and son, Danny L. Turley.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Perkins and husband, Dean, of Scott Depot; David J. Turley of Woodland Park, CO;  two grandchildren, Rick Turley  and his wife, Debbie, of Elkview and Alan D.  Perkins and wife, Lisa,  of Scott Depot; brothers, Dell Nunn of Garrettsbend and Orville Nunn of Sod; sister-in-law, Phyllis Nunn of Sod;  three great grandsons and one great granddaughter and  many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 7th at Curry Funeral home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor  Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek..   Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Betty Jane Coffman Alley, 84, of Redington Beach, FL formerly of St. Albans passed peacefully from this life Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park, FL.

She was the daughter of the late O.G. and Myrtle Ball Coffman, and was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Richard Coffman and son-in-law, Terry Cox.

She was a devoted and loving wife for 63 years to the late H. Milton Alley.  They served together as co-owners of Alley and Casdorph Funeral Home, St. Albans.  She was a faithful member of Highlawn Baptist Church; a longtime volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at Thomas Memorial Hospital and a caring, giving and dedicated Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend.

She is survived by her children: Linda Kaye Leadman (Butch) of Alum Creek and Susan A. Cox of Powell, TN; grandchildren, Rick Leadman (Stacy) of Alkol, Matt Leadman (Amanda) of Alum Creek, Heath Morgan (Janie) of Marshall, MO and Courtney Cox (Jake Sanford) of Powell, TN;

great grandchildren, Kelsey Leadman (Tyler Compston) and Alaina Leadman of Alkol, Cloe and Noah Leadman of Alum Creek; brother, Glen Ray Coffman (Bobbie) of Jacksonville, FL,  sister-in-law, Virginia Coffman of Australia and their families.

Her daughter’s would like to thank the many people who had a lasting effect on her life: Dr. Alan Smith, Tony and Elaine, Staff members of Palm Garden of Largo, Barrington Terrace and all those at  Hospice House Woodside.  Also a personal thanks to  special longtime friends, Charles and Lucille Carr and neighbors.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2012 at Cunningham Memorial Park Upper Mausoleum with Pastor Robert “Butch” Leadman officiating.  Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park. St. Albans.   Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Curtis Thomas Hoffman

Curtis Thomas Hoffman, 43, of Alum Creek died suddenly at home Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

He was in the chrome plating business for most of his career.

He is survived by his father: D. T. Hoffman; sister, Debbie Vance; niece, Ashley Vance; nephews, Brent and Cole Vance, Donald Thomas and Scotti Layne Hoffman.

Funeral service will be 7:00 pm Monday, July 2, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Rywant Cemetery, Dunbar.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Evelyn Melanie Williamson, 61 of Charleston went home to the Lord Friday June 8, 2012 after a long illness.

She worked in the medical field as a phlebotomist.

She was preceded in death by her parents Emmitt and Ruth Cyrus Mitchell, brother Frank Mitchell and companion Eric Watson.

Melanie is survived by her son Chad Watson of Charleston and sister Penny Fockler of Charleston.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Vivian “Bibby” Scragg Meadows Marcum, 77, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Golden Living Center – Riverside in St. Albans, WV.

She is survived by her  sisters, Pauline Johnson,  and Anna Reynods;  brother, Harold Scragg  and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Family Memory Gardens, Low Gap, with Minister Floyd Maynard officiating.   Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in care of arrangements.

Humbard “Goat” Kidd

Humbard “Goat” Kidd, 91, of Alum Creek, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.

He retired with 40 years of service from FMC, where he worked as a machinist-mechanic. He loved to hunt, fish and hunt molly moochers. He was a water witcher. and  had successfully found water veins for over 200 people. He was a member of Alum Creek Church of Christ and loved to tell people about Jesus. He loved to tell stories and sing songs.  He helped his son open Kidd’s Body Shop in Alum Creek and later opened Corridor G Mini Storage.   Humbard loved his birthplace home on Deer Run at Priestley Ridge, which he called the Hollowrosa.

He was preceded  in death by his wife, Hazel Kennedy Kidd; sisters: Bessie Pauley, Tressie Wagoner, Effie Lacy, and Elsie Lacy; brothers: Lloyd and Woodie; father, M. E. Kidd and mother, Rebecca Kidd.   He is survived by his son, David of Alum Creek; daughter, Ellen (Earnest) Sowards of Alum Creek;  sister, Bossie Bougher of Alum Creek and long time friend,  Nellie Gillispie of So. Charleston.  Grandchildren: Stacy (Lori) Kidd, Leslie (Danny) Webster, Micah (Amanda) Sowards, Aaron Sowards and six great grandchildren.   He will be sadly missed by all that loved him.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM   Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Minister Richard Runyan and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.   Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.   Family and friends will gather Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.

Stella Virginia Henick

Stella Virginia Henick, 90, of Brounland Road, Alum Creek, passed from this life  Sunday, May 27, 2012 after a long illness at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

She is survived by her brother, Gene Henick of Alum Creek; several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 30th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Graley officiating.  Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.
