Blanche Bias

Blanche Bias, of Alum Creek died on July 22, 2005 in Saint Frances Hospital, Charleston after a long illness.

Born March 28, 1924 at Midkiff, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Haskell and Anna Agnes Perry Adkins. She graduated from Barboursville High School, Charleston Business College and attended West Virginia State University. She worked as a secretary at Morris Harvey College, for the West Virginia Department of Highways and as a legal secretary and Kelly Services. She volunteered at Thomas Memorial Hospital for several years and was a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Harold L. Bias and a sister Faye Bledsoe.
Blanche is survived by her:
Daughter and Son-in- Law: Sharon and Gary McMellon of Alum Creek; Son and Companion: Harold Perry Bias and Diana Hudson and children Ryan and Britany Hudson all of Alum Creek. Grand-daughter and her husband: Mia McMellon Morin and her husband Shawn, and a Great Grandson: Jacob Morin all of Surprise, Arizona. Brothers: William Jackson Adkins of Chesapeake, Virginia; James A. Adkins of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Ray Adkins of Kent, Ohio.

Funeral service will be 8:00 PM Monday July 25, 2005 at the Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek, with Pastor David Cyphers and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday July 26, 2005 at the Enon Cemetery on Tyler C

Elmer C. “Pat” McCallister, 92, of Charleston, formerly of St. Albans, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at home after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia McCallister.

He was retired from Libby Owens Ford Glass Plant with 35 years service.

He is survived by his two sisters, Pauline Clark of Sumerco, Ruth McCormick of Danville; two brothers, Delmer C. McCallister of Akron, Ohio, Bill McCallister of Indiana.

Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Aaron Hill officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Marigold Atkins

Marigold Atkins, beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, died peacefully at her Alum Creek home on Sunday, July 17, 2005, following a brief illness.

Brn March 22, 1920, in Barboursville, W V, she was the daughter of the late Hansford and Nannie Linville. She attended Morns Harvey College and taught school. She was an avid quilter, an exceptional cook, a former postmistress at Mud, WV, former owner of Atkins Home Center of Alum Creek, and was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Braxton Atkins, in 1970. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Pat & Bob Elkins of St Albans; Billy & Carolyn Atkins of Morgantown; Ted & Margie Atkins of Alum Creek.  Sister: Olivene Chandler of Ripley; Six grandchildren and their spouses: Bruce Whitten of Chicago; Teddy & Taza Atkins of Charleston; Ashley & Jeff Martucci of Morgantown; Melany Atkins of Morgantown; Patrick Atkins and Christopher Atkins both of Alum Creek.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 9:00 PM on Monday, July 18, at the Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek and 1 hour prior to the services at the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church which will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday July 19„2005. with Pastor David Cyphers & Rev. George G. Pauley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 506, Alum Creek, WV 25003 or to Hospice Care, Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Freda E. Pauley Knuckles

Freda E. Pauley Knuckles 87, of Alum Creek died at home Saturday, July 16, 2005.

She was a member of Council Gap Church of Christ and is survived by: 1 daughter: Annie “Pat” Clark and 1 son: Arl Pauley, both of Alum Creek.

13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren

Graveside services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Pauley Family Cemetery in Alum Creek with Minister Bill Edwards officiating . There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Freda M. Clendenin

Freda M. Clendenin, 74, of Brounland Road, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the home of her niece and caregiver, Carolyn Shultz in Alum Creek after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard James Clendenin and daughters, Patricia and Joan.

Freda was also survived by her three daughters, Brenda Ratanaphichetchai of Bangkok, Thailand, Faye Clendenin of West Palm Beach, Florida, Kathy Adkins of Louisville, Tennessee; two sons, Howazd Lee Clendenin of Florida, Larry Wayne Clendenin of Charleston; four brothers, Henry, Frank, and Dokie Elswick all of Charleston, James Beaver of Williamson; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Tommy Roberts officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Isabella “Bunt” Williams Mason, 76, of Ripley formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 9, 2005 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston after a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents: George &Lillian Williams; Husband, Dell O. “Wimpy” Mason; and her Brother, Gary D. Williams. She was a retired supervisor for the WV Dept. of Finance & Administration ; was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Charleston and attended Grass Lick Baptist Church at Kenna.

She is survived by: Son &daughter-in-law: Dale Kent Mason &Christine of Kenna 3 Brothers: Eugene Williams of Sod Billy Williams of Braxton Co. Jack Williams of Teays Valley 1 sister: Kathi Risk of Hurricane Grandaughter: Amanda Brownlee &husband Christopher of Huntington

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor Charles T. Bolen &Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Memorial Park at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 5 to 9 PM on Monday and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Isabella was a resident at Eldercare in Ripley and the family wishes to thank the kind staff for their loving care of “Bella”

Anna Gae Harless

Anna Gae Harless, 76, of Alkol, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at home after a short illness.

She was a member of the Bear Branch Church of Christ and was a retired teachers assistant with the South Western Community Action Council in Lincoln County for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her pazrents, Willard and Mary Miller; sisters, Opal Thurmond and Betty Egnor; brother, Billy Miller; son, Lyle Hazless and grandson, Paul Miller.

She is survived by her:
Two Daughters: Roseanna Asbury of Alkol and Linda Bowling of Madison; Son: Michael Miller of Alkol; Sister: Mildred Adkins of Alkol; Two Brothers: Don Miller and Dorsey Miller both of Alkol; Grandsons: Jeff and Mike Miller, Shane and Chad Bowling, Anthony Hazless and Jackie Asbury; Great Grandson: Reece Miller; Great Grandaughter: Bobbi RaeAnn Miller.

A special thanks to hospice care workers Sally Starkey, Donna Farr and Jody Huffman.

Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Beaz Branch Church of Christ at Alkol with Minister Brian Barrett and Minister Ronnie Linville officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Branch Cemetery at Spurlocksville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek and one hour prior to service at the church.

Opal Wilson Hunter

Opal Wilson Hunter, 87, of Pinnacle Block, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at Boone Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Opal was a homemaker and a 68 yeaz resident of Pinnacle Block.

She is survived by her two brothers, Jerry Wilson of Julian and Mike Wilson of Jackson, Mississippi.
Services will be 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Ivy Branch Cemetery, Woodville. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dolores L. McClure

Dolores L. McClure, 91, of Alkol went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

She was preceded in death by parents, Nicholas and Conchetta Chico; uncle and aunt Jinetti, who raised her; husband, Foster F. McClure; step-daughter, Sybil McClure; step-grandchildren, Myra Streetman, Kazla Burchett and Jeff McClure.

She was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a choir member, worked with the youth and actively served in visitation and caze of the church family and community. She also served as a recruit member of the National Security Women’s Corps.

She is survived by her son, Foster (Buddy) McClure of Alkol; step-daughter, Betty Burchett of Ashland, KY; step-son, Edgel McClure of Ravenswood; 11 grandchildren, B. J. McClure of Charleston, Beth Pauley of Wauseon, OH, Amber Holestin of Morrisvale, T. J. Meadows of Alkol, Anna Fosson of Russell, KY, Debbi Bailey ofFlatwoods, KY, Tony Bailey of Flatwoods, KY, David Burchett of Olive Hill, KY, Donna King of Hopkinsville, KY, Sherry Hughart of Ravenswood, and Nolana Archibald of Millwood; 16 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 1, 2005 at Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Darrell Searls and Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Jonathan Allen Bartram

Jonathan Allen Bertram, 23, of Alum Creek, died Monday, June 27, 2005.

He was a 1999 graduate of Duval High School.

He is survived by his parents, Billy and Betty Bertram of Alum Creek; brother, Billy Bertram, Jr. of Alum Creek; sister, Miranda Lynn Bertram of Alum Creek; paternal grandparents, Charles and Alta Bertram of Blair; two God daughters, Jozelyn McKenzy May Pauley and Makala Jade Smith; many close and dear friends.
