Jeremy James Fletcher, 21, of Alum Creek, died at home Tuesday, May 4, 2004.

He was a 2000 Graduate of George Washington High School and was attending West Virginia State University. He was currently employed by Red Lobster at Southridge Center.

He is survived by his: Parents: Chazles and Sandy Fletcher of Alum Creek; Brother: Chad “Allen” Fletcher of Lexington, KY; Maternal Grandparents: James and Stella Runyan of Alum Creek; Paternal Grandpazents: Ray and JoAnn Fletcher of South Charleston; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan and Minister Justin hnel officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

John E. (Peanut) Brown

John E. (Peanut) Brown, 70, of St. Albans died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.

He was a retired truck driver for Steel Services in St. Albans, which was later known as AmeriSteel. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was in the Air Force.

He is survived by: Beloved wife, Shirley of 43 years; Daughter: Kimberly C. Kidd; 2 Step-sons: David R. and Richard D. Samples; 2 Brothers: Bennie & Guy Brown
5 Sisters: Juanita Cummings Sue Jones Becky Nase Judy Plunkett Pam Harper; 1 Step-granddaughter 1 Step-great granddaughter: Julie “June Bug” Samples.

Service will be 3:00 PM Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dorris E. Walls officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, St. Albans with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Bennie Padilla VFW Post 4768. Friends may ca112 hours prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Elva Mae Asbury Duncan

Elva Mae Asbury Duncan, 93, of South Charleston, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 in a private Gaze home in South Charleston.
She was a member of the Briar Creek Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Ralph Boyce Duncan of South Charleston; sister, Io Cantley of Lexington, North Carolina; three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Bill Pistore officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Friday, April 30, 2004 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Charles Richard Roberts, Sr. 62, of St. Albans, died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at home after a short illness.
He was a union worker and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; son, Charles Richrzd, Jr. of South Charleston; daughters, Jill Litton of Cross Lanes, Elizabeth Roberts of St. Albans, Greta Pauley of South Charleston, Kimbi Garrett and Angie Pritt of St. Albans; step-daughters, Drema Leneger of Columbus, Ohio, Debbie Underwood of Ohio; sisters, Betty Poore and Phyllis McClung of Florida, Chazlene Meier of Indiana; half-brother, Lester Hensley of Florida; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Paul Cogaz, Sr. officiating. Burial will be held in Bazker Cemetery, Ashford. Friends may call on Monday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Thelma Freda “Saddler” Priestley, 71, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 17, 2004 after a long illness.

Thelma was the last of 10 children born to Alan and Eva Saddler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Priestley.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, McCorkle for 22 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Yolanda Wall and husband, James of Alum Creek; Evetta Kessel of Big Chimney; two grandsons, Derrick and Mathew Kessel and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Apri121, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in the Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Adylene Gillispie

Adylene Gillispie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Vondena Renner in Wills Point, Texas.
She was a resident of Alum Creek for more than 50 years with her husband Hollie who preceded her in death six years ago.

She is also survived by :Daughter Sally Battista of Ft. Lauderdale, FL Grandchildren: Terri of So Charleston Denise & Tracey of Dallas, TX; Great Grandchildren: Craig & Tori both of Dallas, TX

Adylene’s quick wit and spiritedness will be sorely missed by her family, friends and by all who knew her. She is resting by her husband Hollie at Graceland Memorial Park in So Charleston, W V There was a private burial on Tuesday with Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek in care of the arrangements.

Hobert Allen Woodrum

Hobert Allen Woodrum, 32, of Yawkey, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington from injuries received in an auto accident on March 22, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Makenzie; son, Dustin Woodrum; parents, Spence and Mona Woodrum; brothers, Lee, Harrison, Tommy, and Timmy Woodrum; and sister, Lynn Adkins.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Luke Cooper officiating. Burial will be held in Bear Branch Cemetery, Spurlocksville. Friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Virginia O. “Ginny” Bonham, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004 after an extended illness.

Born July 11, 1922 in Sod, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lissie and Bartola Jane McCormick.

Virginia was preceded in death by her late husband, Jim Bonham and by her former husband, Ervin Loftis; sisters, Helen McMellon and Blanche Alford; brothers, Dorsey, Bernie and Edgel McCormick.

Virginia was a member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, Sod. She was a past employee of the Diamond Department Store, Chazleston and Stationers Bookstore, Huntington.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Naylor of Chazleston; sons, Frank Loftis in South Cazolina; Stephen Loftis of Sissonville; grandchildren, Rhonda Wood, Lori Mullens, Stephen Loftis, Jr., and Dr. Michael Loftis; great grandsons, Nicholas Graley, Stephen A. Wood, Dylan Jacob Mullens and Stephen Wayne Loftis, III; sister, Olive White of South Charleston, brother Kenneth Eklins of Woodstock, GA, and by many loving nieces and nephews.

Virginia loved and cared for her family and friends who will always be grateful for having known her kindness, her good nature and gentle wisdom.

The family wishes to extend appreciation to Virginia’s health caze providers and friends at Arthur B. Hodges Center and Heartland of Charleston.

Services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2004 at 2 PM at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Chazleston. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Bernard L. “Short” Meadows, 85, of Alkol, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at home after a long illness.
He was a Christian, a retired meat cutter for Stowers and Sons Grocery, Alkol, a 50 year member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71, a W WII Army Veteran, a member of the VFW Madison Post 5578 and a member of the Red Man Big Maple Lodge.

He is survived by: Wife: Jean; Sister: Jacqueline Stowers of Alkol; Brother: Charles Meadows of Alkol; Grandson: T.J. Meadows of Alkol; Step-granddaughter: Amber Holstine of Morrisvale; 1 Great Grandson: Dalton Holstine.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, Apri19, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Paul Meadows and Pastor Darrell Searls officiating. Burial will be in Meadows Family Cemetery, Alkol with Masonic and Military Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Bennie Padilla Post 4768. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Lloyd J. Roberts, 75, of South Charleston departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, April 5, 2004 at home after a long illness. He was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and his family.

He was born on February 24, 1929 in Olcott, WV. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and a retiree of CAMC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James &Edith Roberts; brother, David; sisters, Florence Biddinger and Katie Johnson; daughter, Jennie Moore; and 1 grandson.

He is survived by his loving family: Wife: Susie; 2 Sons: Michael of Charleston Mark of South Charleston; 3 Daughters: Susan Winnings of Dunbar Sandra O’Neal of St. Albans Wanda Johnson of Leesburg, VA; 1 Sister: Louise Grinstead of South Charleston; 5 Brothers: Russell and Danny both of Sumerco, Clifford and Phil both of FL Jeff of Olcott; 4 Grandsons; 4 Granddaughters; Lifelong friend, Billie Williams.
