Betty Gravely Stephenson

Betty Gravely Stephenson, 60, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

She was a Christian.

She is survived by: Her husband: Robert G; 1 Daughter: Peggy A. Board; 3 Sons: Charles A. &Ray J. Gravely Robert E. Stephenson; 3 brothers: Carl, Lawrence, and Harvey Williams; 1 sister: Dora Parsons; 3 grandchildren: Tabitha Gravely Burdette; Jeremiah and Tia Gravely; 1 Great Granddaughter: Montana Skye Graveley.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation toward funeral expenses.
The family expresses a special “thank you” to Sammy Cobb and to all who called and came to visit Betty. She will be greatly missed.

Carol L. Wilson, 64 of Charleston was called home by the Lord Tuesday January 27, 2004 at CAMC Memorial Hospital Charleston after a long illness.
She was a retired Unit Clerk at CAMC Memorial and a daughter of the late Joe and Virginia Johnson of Nitro.

She is survived by her: Husband: Edward;Daughter: Dianna Newcome of Charleston; Son: Stanley Wilson of Charleston; Sister: Charlotte Huffman of Kentucky; 1 Grand-daughter: Destiny Newcome of Cross Lanes; 3 Claimed Grandchildren: Kevin, Lindsey and Austin Wilson all of Charleston.

Services will be held Saturday January 31, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Rev. David Walls officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Friday at the funeral home.

George A. Richardson Sr.

George A. Richardson, Sr., 79, of Rand, passed away January 24, 2004.

Mr. Richardson was born April 19, 1924 to his parents the Benjamin and Mary Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Leon Richardson, sisters, Norma Jean Kibler and Helen Geraldine Winbon and his son, George A. Richardson, Jr.
George was a retired brick mason, and a member of Bricklayers Union for over 50 years. He served in WWII in the United States Nary and was a member of the Belle Church of Christ.

He is survived by his children, Rev. Gregory L. Richardson of South Charleston, Warrenetta Clark of Charleston, Gary R. Richardson of Tampa, Florida, N. Gene Richardson of Dunbar, Geoff M. Richardson of South Charleston. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Services will beheld Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the South Charleston Church of Christ, 309 4`s Avenue, South Charleston with Geoff M. Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

Roberta Jean Justice

Roberta Jean Justice 51 of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 23, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital South Chazleston after a short illness.
She was retired from L C O C at Hamlin, and a member of the Sumerco Community Church.

She is survived by her: Husband: Okey; Sons: Okey Justice, Jr. and Garmey Landers both of Sumerco; Daughters: Lora J. Johnson and Nichole A. Workman both of Sumerco; Wendy N. Justice at home; A host of foster children; Mother: Lucille Spalding of Sumerco; Brother: Gary Hunt of Charlotte, NC; Sisters: Della Lowe of Sumerco; Patricia Coen of North Charleston; 8 Grandchildren.

She will be truly missed by Family and friends. Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Londis Justice and Pastor Chuck Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM today at the funeral home.

Bessie Katherine Isaacs

Bessie Katherine Isaacs, 84, of Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of Lincoln County, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna, Ohio.

She was a homemaker. She is survived by her: Daughters: Lorraine Thompson of Bargersville, IN; Ethel Louise Burnett of Ravenna, OH; Sons: Earnie Spears of Lebanon, IN; Ralph Spears of Senecaville, OH; Sister: Ethel Carrier of Alum Creek, WV; 10 Grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Larry Ross officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

R. Helen Priestley

R. Helen Priestley, 78 of St Albans passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at her home.

She was born June 5, 1925 at Alum Creek the daughter of the late Willis & Rhoda Pauley. Helen was preceded in death by her husband William Priestley in 1993. She was a Baptist and is survived by: 1 daughter: Paula Jane Priestley of St Albans; 2 sons: Stephen Priestley of Hamlin Michael Hendershot of Alum Creek; 2 sisters: Edith Runyan of Sod Wilma Lawson of So Charleston; 1 brother: Billy Pauley of Charleston, WV; Daughter in Law: Michelle Priestley of Hamlin Close family friend: Natchee Proctor of St Albans.

Helen was a completely sincere & caring person who had nothing but kind words &compassion for all those that she encountered in her life. She was a totally devoted wife to her husband, Bill and loving mother to all her children. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and many friends.

Services will be 1:00 on Friday, January 16, at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Memorial Park at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Bernice E. Samples

Bernice E. Samples, 79, of Spring Hill, went home to be the Lord Monday, January 12, 2004, at her home after a long illness.

She was born January 22, 1924 the daughter of the late Shawn and Lola Walker. She will join in Heaven her husband of 62 years, Walter E. Samples, who preceded her in death March 14, 2003.

She leaves behind her family which includes, eight sons, Ken, Whitey, Bud, Jack, Walter Jr., Bill, Ed and Roger; two daughters, Barbara Lucas and Faye Burgess; two brothers, Marlin and Brooklen Walker; 18 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; caregiver, Ruth Burnside.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Strange Creek Baptist Church, Braxton County, with Pastor Damon Wilkewitz officiating. Burial will be held in the Strange Creek Cemetery, Strange Creek. Friends may call on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
She will be sadly missed, but our family circle will be completed when one day we all join hands in Heaven.

Denzil F. Pauley

Denzil F. Pauley 75, of So. Charleston passed away January 10, 2004 at home after a battle with cancer. He was born January 12, 1928 and was owner and operator of P&P Auto Salvage in So. Charleston and was a Marine and Air Force veteran of WWII and Korean war.

He is survived by his wife: Doris Casdorph Pauley; 3 Sons: Dale, Dennis and Darrell Pauley all of So. Charleston; 2 Daughters: Cathy Mcie of Charleston and Elaine Coon of St. Albans; 1 Brother: Ed Pauley of So. Charleston; 1 Sister: Marie Michelson of St. Albans; 3 half sisters: Debby Barker of Danville; Bazbara Tackett of Madison and Phyllis Baldwin of North Carolina; 8 Grandchildren;

She was a homemaker, a member of Mt. Zion Church, Spring Hill and a former employee of Kanawha County Board of Education.

She is survived by: Husband: Ernest Dunning; Daughter and son-in-law: Mischelle and Sam Richardson of Alum Creek; 2 Sisters: Beverly DeBord and Rosemary Eplin of South Charleston; 2 Brothers: John R. McGhee of Charleston; Glenn McGhee of NC; 2 Grandchildren: Brigit Nicole Dunning and Matthew David Richardson.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Bill Frye and Rev. Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the funeral home.
