Carroll Louise Isaacs Tackett, 69, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at home after an apparent heart attack.

She was the oldest child of Cleston & Maxine Adams; a 1955 graduate of Duval High School; a former loan officer at Kanawha Valley Bank in Charleston with 12 years service & a Kindergarten Instructor for 20 years in Lincoln County. She was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Tackett.

She is survived by:

Son: John Isaacs & wife, Rebecca of Charleston

Mother: Maxine Adams of Alum Creek

3 Sisters: Lahoma Nunn & Jewell Belcher both of Sod
Lucille Zieminick of Charleston, SC

Sister-in-law: Lisa Adams of Hurricane

Brother: Harley Adams of Gary, Indiana

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating. Burial will be in Mays Cemetery at Beech Grove Church, Yawkey. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Clifford Allen Mallory

Clifford Allen Mallory, 42, of Charleston, formerly of Alkol passed away Friday July 7, 2006 at home of a sudden illness.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Thursday July 13, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery at Alkol. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Walter “Shorty” Owsley

Walter “Shorty” Owsley, 87, of 468 Estill Bottom, Wayland, Kentucky 41666, formerly of Lincoln County, widower of Lena Ruth Stowers Owsley, died Thursday, July 6, 2006 at his residence. He was born December 11, 1918 in Cliff, Kentucky, a son of the late James Lee Owsley and Susan Catherine Music Owsley. He was a retired Coal Miner; a World War II and Korean, Army Air Corp Veteran.

In addition to his parents, also preceding him in death were 3 Brothers: Russell, Frank & Issick Owsley; 3 Sisters: Ruby Blankenship, Ruth Lafferty & Glenda Mae Owsley.

He is survived by:

Garold Keith Owsley & Darrell Kay Owsley both of Brazil, IN
Ricky Dale Owsley of Murray, KY

Hyla Katherine Perdue

Our sweet, loving mommy passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 1, 2006 surrounded by the family that loved and cared for her.

She was born March 29, 1917, the youngest and last surviving child of Carrie Morris and Walter Barker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Perdue; sisters, Velva and Sue; brothers, Morris, Woodrow and Everett Barker; sons, Donnie and Terry Perdue, sons-in-law, Chris Williams and David Kirk; daughter-in-law, Wanda Perdue.

Left to cherish sweet memories are daughters, Carolyn Williams, Linda (Dean) Cain, Becky Kirk, Glenna (Teddy) Graley and Darlene (Freddie) Long; sons, Jimmy, Mutt (Jean), Rondy (Teresa), Bob and Darcy Perdue; grandchildren, Wayne, Annette, Scott, Sean, Pati, Pia, Peggy, Stacey, Don, Derek and Donna Perdue, Brian Williams, Pat May, Vicky and Ricky Byrd, Stevie and Sheri Barker, Shannon Cain, Mark, Todd, Yolanda and Michelle Kirk, Jamie and Michael Thompson, Heidi and Shane Graley, 28 great grandchildren, special niece, Jean Foster and husband, Jim, special nephew, James Perdue, several nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends and neighbors.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Dartmont Freewill Baptist Church with the Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Burial will be in the Holstein Cemetery, Dartmont. Friends may call three hours prior to the service at the Dartmont Freewill Baptist Church.

Steven Jay Ruby

Steven Jay Ruby, 47, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

He was a Christian and a 1976 graduate of Duval High School, a former route salesman for Painter Distributing and an avid model railroader.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; son, Dustin; mother, Nevada Ruby; brothers, Sam and Greg Ruby; special niece and nephew.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Roe Smith and David Mitchell. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Lowell Luke Gunnoe

Lowell Luke Gunnoe, 49, of Vienna, Virginia, formerly of Griffithsville, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Inova-Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia of congestive heart failure.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Mabel Jarrell Gunnoe; brothers, Ray Gunnoe of Beckley, Charles Franklin Gunnoe of Greensboro North Carolina; Jimmie Lanier Gunnoe of Gainesville, Florida, and Arlie Gunnoe of Sod.

He was a tile installer and lived in Virginia for 24 years, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was the youngest of 11 children.

He is survived by long time companion, Karen Butenko; daughter, Amber Dawn Gunnoe of Manasas, Virginia; step-sons, David, John and Garrett Butenko; granddaughters, Taylor,
Makenzie and Carleigh Madison; brothers, Allen Lee Gunnoe of Madison and Orvie Gunnoe of Hedgesville; sisters, Nada Gunnoe of Branchland, Bina May McComas of Hamlin, Nola Miller of Yawkey, Daisybell Gunnoe of Branchland; 11 nephews; 11 nieces; 15 grand nephews; 20 grand nieces.

Services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery at Sod. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Marsha Pauley, 68, of Garretts Bend, went home to be with the Lord at her home on Monday, June 26, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph T. Pauley, step-father, Dell Matthews, father, Roy Ross and brother, David Matthews.

She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Marsha is survived by her two daughters, Elynn Wood of Alum Creek, Jill Snyder and husband, Dana of Garretts Bend; three sons, Christopher Ralph, Joey Dell and wife, Orla, and James Scott all of Garretts Bend; mother, Irene Matthews of Alum Creek; five grandchildren, Luke Wood and wife, Amber, Suzanne Burton and husband, Michael, Jett Pauley, Colton Snyder, Annie Grace Pauley
three great grandchildren, Savannah Jane and Abigail Shannon Burton, and Nevaeh Lynn Wood; two brothers, Bill Matthews and wife Gloria “Peaches” of Alum Creek, Steve Matthews and wife, Joyce of Milton; one sister, Francis Elkins and husband, Denver of Midlothain, Virginia.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Earl Williams officiating. Burial will be held in the Pauley Cemetery, Joe’s Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Chloe Saul Hoy

Chloe Saul Hoy, 82 of Charleston went home to Jesus Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents J. H. and Martha McCormick Saul and her son, Stephen Hoy.

She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church at Alum Creek.

Chloe, a devoted wife and mother was survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph; daughter a son in law, Barbara Jo Vance and Louie; sons, Barry D. Hoy and wife, Mary, Michael Hoy; sister, Verneece Saul Welch; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman, George Pauley and Bill Bartlett officiating.
Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kanawha Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Roger Glenn Callentine

Roger Glenn Callentine, 65 of Alum Creek, formerly of Rushville, Ohio and Davin, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 23, 2006, at his residence.

He was born September 17, 1940 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the son of the late George and Ruth Carr Callentine. He was also preceded in death by three brothers.

Mr. Callentine was a retired auto technician and former owner of Muffler Man in Lancaster and Athens, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Davin and Pine Grove Baptist Churches.

Surviving him is his wife of 45 years, Martha “Ninnie” Lester Callentine of Alum Creek, one son, Michael A. “Gena” Callentine of Ruchville, Ohio, two grandsons, Jeremy “Holly” Callentine of Lancaster, Ohio and Zachary Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, one granddaughter, Nikki Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, one great grandson, Levi Callentine of Lancaster, Ohio and one special great niece, Allison Paige Minney of Alum Creek. He is also survived by three brothers, Charles and Bill both of Michigan, James of Florida and one sister Martha Atkinson of Virginia and a host of family and friends that loved him dearly.

Services will be held Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, West Virginia, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens in Pecks Mill, West Virginia. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, West Virginia.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers, the men of Davin and Pine Grove Baptist Churches will serve as honorary pallbearers.
