Theodore Wayne (Teddy) Gravely, Sr., 44, of Cross Lanes passed away Monday, September 1, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents: George & Nellie Gravely & brother, Bill A. Gravely.

Teddy was an all around handy-man and loved the outdoors, sports, especially hunting & fishing.

He is survived by:

3 Sons: Theodore W. Jr., Brian Lee & Justine DeWayne Gravely

Daughter: Brandy Smith

3 Brothers: Edward, Frank R., & George Gravely

5 Sisters: Ruby A. Moore

Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery.  Family and friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Vada Jean Snyder

Vada Jean Snyder, 85, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 28, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde William Snyder, son Larry Lane Snyder, two sisters,  three brothers and her parents.

She is survived by:

2 Sons: Jerry Wayne “Spaceman” Songer and Clyde Ervin “Snooks” Snyder;

4 Grandchildren: Jason Snyder, Misty Dotson, Jeanie Dunlap and Jennifer Snyder;

1 Step Grand-daughter: Tammy Pauley

1 Special Step Grandson: Dustin Pauley

6 Great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren

2 Sisters: Maryland Moore and Phyllis Thomason;

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 30, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Basil Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jean enjoyed gardening and myrtle picking. She also enjoyed hunting greens with neighbor Edith Stover. She especially loved cooking for her family and loved family gatherings. Sitting on the porch sharing her love of nature with all those that would gather round was her most cherished moments. Jean was a kind generous person, she always gave food and clothing to those in need. Her house was open to all, she never turned anyone away. She will be forever missed and never forgotten.

Brenda Joyce Justice Huffman

Brenda Joyce Justice Huffman, 65, of Alkol was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 23, 2008 after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her father Alvis Justice Sr., mother & stepfather Violet & Leck Huffman, brother, Frank Justice, sister Irma Nelson and grand-daughter Jessica Joyce Huffman.

She is survived by her husband: Jackson Huffman

3 sons and their wives; Mark & Kim, Craig & Delphia and Brian & Cora; all of Alkol

7 grand children; Joshua Kenneth, Zachary Scott, Heather Justice, Matthew Tyler, Jeremy Lee, Timothy Ray and Anna Mae

Brother: Alvis Justice Jr., of Julian

Brenda was dearly loved and will be greatly missed , until we meet again.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Curry Funeral Home , 2097   Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Gene Pauley, Bob Adkins & Jimmy Lawrence officiating.  Burial will be in the Huffman Family Cemetery at Alkol.  Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Leroy Franklin Rowley

Leroy Franklin Rowley, 83 of Sod died Saturday, Aug 23, 2008 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

He was a retired construction worker and a WW ll Navy Veteran.

Surviving are his wife: Doris

3 Step Children, 5 Grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and sister: Dorothy Miller

Services will be  8:00 PM on Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Curry Funeral Home,  2097 Childress  Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Dennis Wyer officiating.  Burial will be on Tuesday at the Hensley Family Cemetery in Sod.  Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service on Monday Evening at the funeral home.

Lillian Mae Smith

Lillian Mae Smith, 94, of So. Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Smith.

She was a homemaker and seamstress, and a member of the Springhill Baptist Church, So. Charleston.

She is survived by her son: William Wray Smith and his wife Delores of So. Charleston;

1 Sister: Nina McKenzie of Princeton;

3 Grandchildren: Billy Wray Smith and his wife Michelle; Cheryl Elswick and her husband Clinton; and Karen Smith;

4 Great Grandchildren: Caleb, Courtney, Cara and Cami;

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 25, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Mark Patton and Rev. Roger Hartwell officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston.  Family and friends will gather from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Dennis A. Highlander

He was a retired coal miner and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Charles Edward Settle, Jr.

Charles Edward Settle, Jr., 80, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 19, 2008 after a long illness.

Charles was born August 3, 1928 to the late Charles and Genela Settle.  He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and a retiree of Union Carbide with 42 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Settle and sister, Exlee Gillenwater.

Charles is survived by his loving family

He was retired from General Motors Corp. In Pontiac, MI.  He attended  Olcott Community Church.

Charles Ivan “Chuck” Parsons

Charles Ivan “Chuck” Parsons, 51, of South Charleston, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth “Gay” Parsons.

He was retired from West Virginia American Water Company and he attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Father and step-mother, Charles E. And Toby Parsons of South Charleston

Children: Mitchell Charles O. Parsons (Deanna) and Miranda D. Lacy (Joseph) both of South Charleston; grandchildren, Isaiah “Charlie” Parsons, Jackson A. Lacy and Kenley Lacy-Woodson

Brothers and sisters: Kimbra Clinton of Bancroft, Chester “Chet” Parsons of South Charleston, Tamra Parsons and Tonya Barker both of Fairplain

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at  Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Randall “Butch” Brogan and David Mitchell officiating.  Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Gentry

Mary E. Gentry, 81, of South Charleston, died August 16, 2008 at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane, West Virginia.

She was a retired Certified Public Accountant, a member of Christ Church of the United Methodist, Charleston; the Benson Sunday School Class of  the  United Methodist Women and for many years she was co-ordinator of the Christ Church prayer chain.

She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Geddis of Whitesboro, Texas, Dorothy Kyle of The Colony, Texas and Elsie Copley, Huntington.

There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Christ Church United Methodist or Marshall University Varsity Foundation.
