William “Jackie” Marker

William “Jackie” Marker, 68, of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a son of the late Ray and May Marker of Sod.  He was an active member of the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church which he dearly loved.

Jackie is survived by his wife of 50 years Geraldine, 2 daughters and their spouses  Libby (Ronnie) Pauley, and Denise (Davy) Pauley, all of Sumerco, 4 syblings and their spouses Garcia (Geraldine) Marker of Alum Creek, Audella (Danny) Huffman, Areta (Jim) Kelly all of So. Charleston and Jerry (Peggy) Marker of Sod. Grandsons Wes and Brad Pauley. Granddaughters Chantel and Kaylee Pauley.

Jackie was a wonderful husband, father, and friend.  He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.  Special thanks go to our family, friends, and church family

for prayers, food, visits, and many cards during his illness. He was a kind and caring friend to many  and had many VERY special friends.  He will be missed, but we’ll be together again in Heaven one day.  Oh what a day that will be!

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, December 19, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastors Russell Wright and Roe Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery at Sod. Family and friends may gather from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Joseph B. Snodgrass

Joseph B. Snodgrass, 100,  of South Charleston formerly of St. Albans and Alum Creek, died  Monday, December 14, 2009 at Thomas Memorial Hospital South Charleston after a short illness, with his loving family by his side.

He was born January 3, 1909 at Bowaine, WV, now Alum Creek.

He formerly attended the Abney Street Church of God, St. Albans and was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education as a school bus driver, transporting children to Washington District High School, which he helped build in 1929.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Delcie Graley Snodgrass; parents, James “Buck” and Amanda Snodgrass; two brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his son, Lyle Snodgrass and wife Gardenia

Grandson: Bucky Snodgrass

Granddaughter: Deena Pauley and husband, Robert

great-granddaughter: Deanna Parsons

great-great-grandson: Isaiah Parsons all of South Charleston

Special daughter: Tara Appler and husband, John of Baltimore, MD

Services will be 12:00 Noon, Friday, December 18, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Jack Lawrence and Ezra Graley, Jr., officiating.   Entombment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Abney Street Church of God, 617 Abney Street, St. Albans, WV 25177.

Joe’s family wants to give a special thank you to all the staff at Valley Center North in South Charleston for their excellent care of Dad.  He loved each and everyone of you.

Gifford D. Webb

Gifford D. Webb, also know as Spider Webb, 67 of Washington, WV passed away Sunday December 6, 2009 at home after a long illness surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mabel Webb, brothers Bobby and Mike Webb and sister Gloria Schronce.

He was a retired coal miner and a Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his most wonderful, loving wife of 47 years Margie, daughters, Sharon Smith of Point Pleasant, Barbara Stewart of Hurricane and Cindy Howard of Parkersburg, son Gifford Webb Jr. Of Charleston, brothers, James E. Webb of Maryland, Richard I. Webb of Tango, William Foster Webb of So. Charleston, Cecil E. Webb of Kansas and Kenneth D. Webb of Tango, sister Betty Means of Tango. 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor James Lawrence officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be in Means/Webb Family Cemetery at Tango. Family and friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vivian J. Moore

Oscar Otis Dragoo

Oscar Otis Dragoo born January 7, 1927 went to be with the Lord at home Sunday November 29, 2009 while surrounded by his family.  Oscar was a retired mail carrier, carpenter, farmer and a World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by parents Otis Oscar & Hattie Marie Lovejoy Dragoo; 3 brothers Cecil Dragoo, Andrew Nelson, and Linis Dragoo; 4 sisters Crede Lawther, Erma Dragoo, Inis McCallister, and Zulema Jaynes

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Malena Gay, son, Tony Dragoo of Griffithsville daughter Nancy Strickland of Dunbar,

2 Grandchildren Kurt  Dragoo, Andrea Dunlap and 1 Great Grandson Micah Dunlap all of Griffithsville.

3 sisters Georgia Dragoo of Yawkey, Dora Jeffery of St. Albans, and Myrtle Alford of Teays Valley

The family would like to send a special thank you to  the caregivers Cindy Redman,  Linda Pauley & Hospice Care.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd. Charleston, WV 25312 or charity of choice

Private graveside service at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, was held on Tuesday December 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Chaplain Terry Yarh officiating. Curry Funeral Home at Alum Creek is in care of arrangements.

Violet Evelyn Walton

Violet Evelyn Walton, 84, of Alum Creek died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at home after a long illness.  She was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. Walton; son, Timothy Lee Hall; granddaughter, April Lynn Means-Roach.

She is survived by:

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek. With Rev. Walter Means officiating.    Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, Springhill.  Family and friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Betty Gail Bell

Betty Gail Bell, 74, of South Charleston died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness

She was preceded in death by her husband Radith L.”Shorty” Bell and parents Clyde and Leetha Gillispie, sister Frances Kessell.

She was a graduate of Washington District High School and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Penny Lee Brown and her husband Donald of Peterstown, WV, son Gregory Kurt Bell of So. Charleston.

2 sisters Mary Kay Parsons of South Charleston and Jeanne Gillispie of St. Albans

3 grandchildren Leetha, Daniel and Aaron, special great grandchildren Radith Blake and Abigail Bell.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, November 27 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Goldie Mae Walls

Goldie Mae Walls, 85 of Olcott went home to be with the Lord Monday November 16, 2009 at Valley Health Village So. Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Floyd “Pookie” Walls and husband Orville F. Walls

She is survived by her sons Roy Walls of Olcott and Teddy Walls of Ruth, brother Richard Lee Holstine of Emmons, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Graley officiating. Burial will be in the Holstein Cemetery at Dartmont. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Rev. Robert Wayne Cogar

Rev. Robert Wayne Cogar Sr., 67 of Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at home after a long illness. He was a former pastor of the House of Prayer at Bakers Fork,  was a  member of the Full Gospel Church in Saint Albans and also served in the US Army.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Diana; 2 sons Robert(Tammy) and Tim(Brenda) both of Charleston;1 daughter Tammy(Tony) Keefer of Charleston; 2 brothers Billy and Paul; 2 sisters Cleo Stricker and Lora Henderson and 7 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren who affectionately knew their papaw as ” Superman” because of the strength & determination he showed during his life.

Services will be  8:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev.  Billy Burdette officiating. Friends will gather from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Betty Emma Rabel

Betty Emma Rabel, 85 of Sod went home to be with the Lord Friday evening, November 13, 2009 at home after a long illness.  She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church for the past 18 years and a former member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents William (Com) and Gertie Keeling; sisters Mae Hudson, Wynoka Crowder, Norine Morton, and Dessie Davisson; brothers Asa, Cecil, Clifford, and Okey Keeling and Eugene McClure

She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Hubert Rabel; daughter Dorothy (Graley) Waldron and special niece Pam (Keeling) Thompson both of Sod; Step sons Hubert L.(Susan), Richard, Ron(Teresa), Terry, Chuck(Sherri) Rabel; Sisters Mary Wallace, Phyllis Rife, Mayme(Paul) Zirkle all of Sumerco Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Rev. Clarence Hutton officiating. Entombment will be in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum at South Charleston.   Friends will gather Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
