Hasell Eugene Pauley

Hasell Eugene Pauley, age 70, born October 28, 1939 of McCorkle went to be with our Heavenly Father and joined his loving wife, Rita Kay, on Friday, October 1, 2010.   He was a disabled boiler maker, member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.  

He is survived by his son, Pat (Robin) Pauley and his daughter Lori Bailey all of McCorkle. A son from the heart Ronnie Chambers of Dallas, TX. Brothers: Thomas (Shirley) Pauley of Sod, Ray (Fay) Pauley of Alum Creek; Sisters: Froda (Julian) of Mansfield, OH, Gladys McCormick of Yawkey and Nina Dunlap of Pine Grove.  Grandchildren: Ashley Pauley, BreAnna Bailey, Haley and Lyndsey Pauley and Michael Smith.  

Family and friends may attend graveside services at Pine Grove Cemetery at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 6th with Pastor Butch Brogan officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 – 9:00pm on Tuesday, October 5th at Curry Funeral Home, 2090 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV.

 

Donna Sue Martin

Donna Sue Martin, 71, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at home with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby J. Martin.  Donna worked for Vineyards Care Home in St. Albans and was a 30-year member of the Dunbar Chapter 133 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her sons; Bobby Joe Martin (Kimberly) of South Charleston, and Roy “Bim”” (Robin) Mannon of St. Albans, step sons; Michael (Vanessa ) Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, and David Wayne Martin of Charleston, step daughters; Jackie (Alan) Hoover of Harrisville, and Lana Gail (Greg) Moses of Charleston, sister; Carol Jean Manley of St. Albans. 4 grandchildren; Bobby Hans, Amanda Martin, Haylee Dawn Martin and Kristen Faith, 4 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday October2, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Gail Medley officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service with an Eastern Star ceremony at 1:45 pm. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston.

Donald E. Holstein

Donald E. Holstein, 70, of Brounland died Sept. 22, 2010.   He is survived by his nieces and nephews; Sylvia, Joseph and Gavyn Holstein, Charles and Bill Holstein, Katie and Alanna Holstein. Brother and Sisters, James Darrell Holstein, Dolores Jean Holstein, Lorraine Holstein Roberts, Mary Lee Keffer, Freeda Brogan and Evelyn Ann Holstein.

Memorial service will be 6:00 PM Tuesday September 28, at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor Jimmy Webb officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.    In lieu of flowers, contributions for funeral expenses would be appreciated.

Deloris “Jean” Smith

Deloris “Jean” Smith, 75, of Port St. Lucie, FL formerly of St. Albans went home to rest on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Hay-Maderia Hospice House, Stuart, FL.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, Delmer and Mary Sansom; brother, Sebert Sansom; grandson, Jason Smith; great granddaughter, Haley McCown.

She formerly attended Joe’s Creek Baptist Church, Tango; and retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by:  Daughter: Dawnita McCown of Nitro; Son: Bernard (Liz) Smith of St. Albans; Six sisters: Doris Oxley of Dunbar; Patricia Adkins of Davis Creek; Sylvia Harless of Garretts Bend; Eleanor Cadle of Elkins; Ilean Pauley of Teays Valley; Eva Canter of NC; Brother: Lester Sansom of Garretts Bend; Three grandchildren: Brian and Travis McCown and Alicia Smith; and Six Great grandchildren: Katelyn & Stephanie Smith; Brianna & Jaden McCown; Logan Bell and Jaslyn Walker.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Sansom Cemetery, Griffithsville, WV with Pastor Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Friends may gather 1 hour prior at the cemetery.

Wayne Allen Fletcher

Wayne Allen Fletcher, 48 of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 18, 2010.

He loved hunting and fishing, was employed by the West Virginia State Department of Transportation as an officer with the motor carrier division. He was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church, a 1981 graduate of Hurricane High School, served in the United States Marine Corps from 1981 to 1984 and served as a bailiff for the Kanawha County Sheriffs Department for Judge John Hey and Judge Paul Zakaib.

He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Lisa; Parents Shirley and Glenda Fletcher, brother Douglas E. Fletcher all of Browns Creek, father-in-law and step mother-in-law Gail and Joan Runyon of Sumerco, mother-in-law Patricia Jeffers of Hamlin, favorite nephew Dalton and many other cousins, nephews, nieces and family, and special friend Bob Hodges.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road. Alum Creek, with Pastors Oshel Bell and Dana Snodgrass officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek Benny Padilla VFW post 4768 will be at Cunningham Memorial Park St. Albans. Family and friends will gather two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Oma Mae Estep Pauley

Oma Mae Estep Pauley 83 of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Thomas Memorial Hosp in So Charleston.   She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Berry.

Surviving are her children: Janet Sue (Lenzo) Egnor of Yawkey, Paula Clay of Sumerco;  Twin Brother: Romie Estep; Brothers: Carlos & Chuckie Estep; Sister: Verona Williamson; Grandchildren: Dale & Tim Egnor, Mindy Treadway and Tabitha Smith; Great-Grandchildren: Johnna Treadway, Tyler Smith, Steven Treadway and Sophie Smith and her special pet: Holly.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Curry Funeral Home , 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey.  Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV. Friends and family will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Basil “Junior” Cummings

Basil “Junior” Cummings, 65, of Sumerco, passed away Tuesday June 29, 2010 at home after a long illness.

Family services were held Wednesday at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens at Yawkey.

Special thanks to Hospice nursing team, Edie, Libby, Mary, Sally and Ronda for their loving care.

Gene Curry, 84, of Alum Creek went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 21, 2010 at CAMC Memorial Division with his family by his side. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for 7 years. He was born on July 4, 1925 to the late Raymond & Alberta Curry of Hamlin.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Jane Ann Curry; sister-in-law, Linda Curry..

Gene was founder of Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek in 1949, and co-owner of Casdorph and Curry Funeral Home in St. Albans from 1969 to 1987.
He was a member of the W.Va. Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Director Association. He was a member of Dunbar Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rites Bodies, and the Beni Kedem Shrine. He was a Charter member of the Alum Creek Lions Club, a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a Life member of Benny Padilla Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 . He was past deacon and faithful member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek He was a recipient of many distinguished service awards from state, city & community organizations. He was recently recognized as Citizen of the Century of the Alum Creek Centennial of 2010 celebration.

Gene served as past chairman of the board of directors at Citizen National Bank ,Bank One, now  Bank One and a former member of the St. Albans Rotary Club and St. Albans American Legion Post 73.

Surviving Gene is his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Betty Rabel Curry, they never tired of saying and hearing “I love you” many times a day.

15 Great Grandchildren: Miles, Neena, Makayla, Riley, Charlie, Colt, Sarah, Jacob, Ricky, Breanna, Chad, Troy, Brandon, Blake, Bradon

and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Robert (Butch) Leadman , Keith George and Frank Chapman officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Benny Padilla Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will gather Thursday from 1-3 pm and 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Frame, Dr. Scott Smith, Dr. Edward Hamrick, Dr. Sarah Nease and the doctors and nurses on 4 West CAMC Memorial Division for their excellent and professional care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 506, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Karen Susie Chapman

Karen Susie Chapman, 57, of South Charleston, died on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

She was an employee of AFL-CIO Appalachian Council in Charleston since 1992, and was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for Rose Shopping Center at Alum Creek.

She was predeceased by: brother, Wally Rose; and father, James Walter Rose.

She is survived by: son, Stephen Carl Chapman, Jr. and his wife Sarah, of South Charleston; mother, Pearl Rose and her companion, Leon Daugherty of Nitro; brother, James David (Angela) Rose of South Charleston; one niece; one nephew; one great nephew.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 23, at 11:00am at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Friends and family may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 22, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
