Norva Gene “Peggy” Murphy

Norva Gene “Peggy Murphy, 83, of Davis Creek, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday April 14, 2010 at home after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Dempsey Murphy.

Peggy was a retired nurse having 19 years of service with Union Carbide Institute Plant and several area hospitals. She was a member of the Parsons Chapel Advent Church Charleston were she had served as  a board member and secretary-treasure for many years.

She is survived by her son,    William Edward “Bill” Murphy and wife Darlene of Charleston

1 step daughter:    Linda Walker and husband Marvin of Lewisburg.

Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday April26, at the Parsons Chapel Advent Church 1449 – 6th Avenue, Charleston, with Rev. Donald Young and LeRoy Conner officiating. . Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek and one hour prior to the service  at the church.

Sonny Joe Harvey

Sonny Joe Harvey, 75 of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord  on  Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.  He has now rejoined the love of his life , Marquita “Mark” Joan Harvey.

He was  preceded in death by his parents Dell and Bess Harvey, Brother, David Pauley, and Sister, Betty Krebbs.  He was retired from Kanawha Manufacturing and was a member, deacon and adult Sunday school class teacher at Amy Baptist Church in Yawkey where he also taught a Tuesday morning prayer service.  He was  a member of the Nitro Antique Car Club.

He is survived by 1 son: Sonny Ray “Hubie” (Shyann) Harvey of Sumerco

Daughter: Sonya (John) Triplett of Sumerco

Brother: Don Pauley of So Charleston

Granddaughter: Krystal Triplett

3 great grandchildren: Makayla, Jarrett and Landon

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor George “Gale” Pauley officiating.  Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery at Sumerco.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311.

James “Eddie” Mooney

James “Eddie” Mooney 51 of Ashford went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 5, 2010 after a mining accident at Performance Coal Company in Montcoal, WV on Monday April 5, 2010.

Eddie was a loving husband, dad and brother. He was a member of Rumble Community Baptist Church. Eddie loved life and he loved to make people laugh. He had been in the mining industry for over 20 years. He was a hard worker and he always put his family first. He enjoyed taking his son hunting and fishing. He also liked camping and four-wheeling. On the weekends he loved to take his 1978 Corvette out for a cruise.

Eddie was born on December 19, 1958 and was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Mooney and father-in-law, Austin Kirk.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sheila Mooney

daughter and son-in-law: Misty and Eric Case of Palm Coast, Florida

14 year old  son: Austin Mooney

Mother-in-law: Jean Kirk of Ashford

six brothers and sisters: Butch and Peggy Mooney of Peytona;

Chuck and Sharon Mooney of Drawdy;

Patty “Sissy” and Wendy Woodrum of Cleveland, Ohio

Punk and Karen Mooney of Drawdy

Agnes Love of Ohio;

Ginny and Michael Graley of Whiteoak

many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Roger Barker of Costa.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday April 16 at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Burial will follow at the Holstein Cemetery at Dartmont. Family and friends will gather from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the Rumble Community Baptist Church.

Though your smile is gone forever, and your hand I cannot touch, I still have many memories of the one I love so much. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I’ll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.

Larry Brooks “Griz” Naylor

Larry Brooks “Griz”  Naylor, 62, of Morrisvale went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 2, 2010.

He was a retired miner with Hobet Mining.

He was preceded in death by his father, Beverly Naylor.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pam

Son: Scott Naylor

Daughter: Susan Halstead

Mother: Loretta Naylor

2 Brothers: Ed and Ronnie Naylor

2 Sisters: Lucille Hodges and Katherine Rose

4 Grandchildren: Timmy, Kelsi, Hannah and Austin

Service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Allen officiating.  Burial will be in Lane Family Cemetery, Clendenin.  Family and friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made toward funeral expenses.

Larry Alan Daughtery

Larry Alan Daughtery, 59, of South Charleston went  to be with the Lord at home surrounded by amily and friends Wednesday, March 31, 2010 after battling cancer.

He was a master craftsman and carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Daugherty and his father, Jackie D. Daugherty.

He is survived by:

Daughters: Cassie (Matt) Caldwell of South Charleston

Carrie Daugherty and fiancé, Aaron Lynch-Kelley of South Charleston

Mother: Esta Daugherty of South Charleston

Step-son: Ralph Cullers and his children

Brother: John Doyle (Audrey Stempel) Daugherty of Maine

Sisters: Tracy (Gary) Burdette of South Charleston

Estel “Gerald” Loftis

Estel “Gerald” Loftis, 72, of Barboursville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 29, 2010, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Marie Loftis.

He was a retired brakeman for CSX Railroad with 32 years of service and served in the US Airforce. He also loved hunting and fishing,but his favorite pass-time was researching genealogy,  “digging up bones”.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 45 years Glenna, children Paula Browing, Wyatt (Jennifer) Loftis, and Alana (Robbie) Hall, brother Jackie Loftis and sister Norma Roberts, grandchildren Christopher, Hannah, Bryce, Sofie, and James.

Services will be 2:00pm, Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road,  Alum Creek, with Rev. G. E. McCabe officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

James S. “Jim” Roberts

James S. “Jim” Roberts, 81, of St. Albans, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.

Jim was retired from Union Carbide as a civil engineer with over 38 years of service, he was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church were he served the Lord in many capacities, such as Boy Scout Leader, working with youth and was a member of the choir, he also was a member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, was a Marine veteran of the Korean War and greatly enjoyed listening to and sing gospel music.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann, son Ken Roberts, daughter Kathy Comuzie, step-daughters,  Terry Thomas and Kimberly Richard and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral service and burial will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel South Charleston with Pastor Kevin Norvell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are in the care of Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Mildred G. Fisher

Mildred G. Fisher 93, of Circleville, Ohio formerly of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday March 12, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  Henry S. Fisher;  son,  Henry Steve Fisher, Jr.; parents Iva and William Kuhn; brother, Charles Kuhn and sisters, Ruby McLaughlin and Louise Benincosa

Mildred was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia October 4, 1916 was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She formerly attended Loudendale Nazarene Church.

Left to Cherish her memory are children, Esther (Frank) Hudson of Circleville, Ohio, and Donna

(Ed)  Moore of Charleston, West Virginia.

Brother, William Kuhn of Cincinnati, Ohio and sister, Barbara Jones of Crossville, Tennessee.

7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service and burial will be 2:00 pm Tuesday March 16, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum  Chapel with Pastor Clarence Hutton officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

The family would like to thank everyone who prayed and encouraged us through our mothers illness. We especially thank Columbus Heartland  Hospice and Brown Memorial Home in Circleville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Heartland Hospice P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, Ohio 43699 in memory of our mother.

Mildred was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved to read, crochet and bake. She was always wanting to give to give to family and friends. We will truly miss her but she will always be in our heart.

Alfred Charles Branham

Alfred Charles Branham, 74, of South Charleston passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.

He was a retired truck driver and member of Teamsters and United Mine Workers of America.  He was a member and served as an usher at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Nell Branham.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Flo

Daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Jay Marino

Son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Tina Branham

Son: Greg Branham

Grandchildren: Nichole Sweeney, Charles Marino, Cara Branham, Jeffrey Shane Branham, Scott Edward Branham and Emily Branham.

Great Grandchildren: Sophia and Coleson Sweeney, Shane and Jacob Branham.

Service will be 1:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2010 at Hopewell Baptist Church located at Junction of 119 S. And Brounland Road, South Charleston, with Pastors Dwight McClure and James Parsons officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Friends may call from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the church.

The Family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the David Lee Cancer Center for their kindness and caring friendship. A special thanks to Dr. Ahmed Khalid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Breedlove; parents, Dora Tabor Egnor and William Egnor; Children: Harlan Wilbert, Teddy Lane, Benjamin Scott, Rose Jane and Dottie Evelyn Breedlove; brother, James “Cecil” Egnor; sisters, Pauline Adkins and Dottie Louise Egnor; granddaughter, Kimberly Adkins.
