Mark Wyane Roberts

Mark Wayne Roberts, 44, of Charleston passed away Saturday, September 13, 2012 at CAMC Memorial  Division after a short illness.

He worked at Thomas Memorial Hospital for 23 years in Housekeeping.  He was also an avid deer hunter and loved his cars and music.  He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Roberts and sister Jeannie Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years Linda Roberts; daughter Nicole Roberts; mother, Susie Roberts; 4 siblings, Susan Winnings, Michael Roberts, Sandy Jones, and Wanda Johnson; 2 Special family members Alan (Diana) Chandler; good friend & co-worker, Ronnie Harvey; and several nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday September 18, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, with Pastor Burt Hall officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bernard B. Dunlap

Bernard B. Dunlap, 69, of Ely Fork Road,, McCorkle, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, October 12, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Katherine Dunlap.

He is survived by his sister, Loleta Justice of Sumerco and brother, Charles “Bo” Dunlap of Alum Creek.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Janet Lovejoy for giving Bernard more love and care than we could have ever asked for; and also Bernard’s  favorite buddy, Russell “Russ” Ashworth, for all the love and laughter he gave. We all loved Bernard and he will be dearly missed.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday, October 15, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.   Family and friends will gather from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Dixie “Mommy D” Kidd

Dixie “Mommy D”  Kidd, 78 of Alum Creek went home to the Lord peacefully  Friday October 5, 2012 after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hurshel (Hurk) Kidd, father and mother Andrew and Susan Purdue Turley, brother Toy Turley and sister Louise Elkins.

She was a homemaker, a giver of love, and a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

She is survived by her son Todd (Tammy) Wheeler of Hurricane, sisters Elsie (Ray) Pauley of Alum Creek and Margaret Jackson (Norman) of Dunbar, grandchildren Latasha, Shyenna and Bella,  also she is survived by Ellen Sowards who was know as the daughter she never had and her children Aaron and Micah Sowards.

She touched many lives.

Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday October 7, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Teays Valley Nursing Home 590 North Popular Fork Road, Hurricane, WV 25526

Gladys May Pauley McCormick

On Thursday, September 27, 2012 God called his beloved  angel, Gladys Pauley McCormick, 88, of Yawkey,  home to live in His Kingdom of heaven for eternity.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and a natural nurturer to all who encountered her.  She was born on May 25, 1924, in Ivy Branch, WV to the late Thomas and Annie Pauley.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Bernard McCormick; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Buddy Johnson; two grandchildren, Christopher “Todd” McCormick and Chadra Nicole Marker; two brothers, Lester and Hassell Pauley and two sisters, Sharon Pauley and Lula Roberts.

Gladys is survived by her children, Leonard McCormick of Yawkey; Sharon (Lindell) Marker of Sod and Teresa (Barry) McCallister of Yawkey; two sisters, Freda (Julian) Coon of Mansfield, OH and Nina Dunlap of Sumerco; two brothers, Junior (Shirley) Pauley of Sod and Ray (Faye) Pauley of Alum Creek; grandchildren,   Mark McCormick, Terri (Ebby) Talebi, Kendra Marker, Karrah (Joey) Coy, Levi (Rebecka) Johnston, Dustin (Brianna) Johnston, and Cole, Olivia and Christian McCormick; great grandchildren, Heather, Michael, Madison, Codye, Kayla, Kaden, Markahala, Heith, Trinity, Gabe, Samuel and Lanie.   One great great grandchild, Baby McCormick due to arrive in December.

Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, the closest being her dog and best friend, “Sable”.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 1, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  Friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Gloria May Dodd

Gloria May “Tootsie” Dodd, 75, of Nitro  passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at Mary’s Garden in Marmet.

She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Grace Brogan Williams and was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Rondal and Stanley Williams; sisters,  Arlene Harrison, Evelyn “Sis” Jackson and Louise Roberts Curry.

She is survived by daughters, Tina Harper of Cross Lanes, Gina (Hack) Pauley of Sumerco, Tara (Roger) Kendall Cantley of Dunbar; son, Robert “Bobby” Garcia of Nitro; sister, Melva Hudson of St. Albans; two grandson’s, Shawn Harper and Christopher Kendall; and three granddaughters, Stephanie Harper, Elizabeth Cantley and Hannah Shea Pauley and four great grandchildren, Logan and Ian Harper and Braxdon and Brielle Fenneken.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Tommy Roberts officiating.   Burial will be in Brounland cemetery, Alum Creek.  Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Gary Eugene “Gator” Hudson

On Tuesday, September 25, 2012 a Heart of Gold stopped beating, Gary will be greatly missed especially his smile, laughter and quick wit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert and son, Dennis.

He is survived by his  wife of 42 years, Vicky; daughter, Stephanie (Paul) Tiller; sons, Gary Jr. and  Rodney (Cheryl) Hudson; mother, Melvia; grandchildren, Rodney Wayne, Trey, Christopher, Hunter and Kaden Hudson and Morgan, Katie and Samuel Tiller; brothers, Jim (Charla), Bob (Sue), Chuck (Joyce), Mark (Robin) Kevin (Shayna); sisters, Carol (Greg) Abbott and  Linda (Jerry) Taylor.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, September 28th, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road,  Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. .  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made toward funeral.

Shirley Ann Williams

Shirley Ann Williams, 72 of Charleston, formerly of Brounland at Alum Creek, went home to her Lord Sunday September 23, 2012 after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and brother Kelly Chandler.

She was a retired from Kanawha County Board of Education with 24 years of service as a  teachers aid and bus aid and was also a member of the Brier Creek Baptist Church at Brounland.

Shirley is survived by her daughters; Catherine (Jimmie) Ingram of Charleston, Mary Williams of Alum Creek, sons; Richard O. Williams, Jr. of Charleston, Keith Allen (Terrie) Williams of St. Albans, sisters; Sandra Harper of Alum Creek, Charlotte (Leonard) Gallegos of Farmington, New Mexico, brother; Johnny (Debbie) Chandler of Alum Creek.

Shirley had 8 grandchildren plus one that was very special to her, Ryan Johnson, he  was her buddy and was loved more than anything in the world and he loved her more than life it’s self, she also had 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Al Mendez officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston.

Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eleanor (Samson) Cadle

Eleanor (Samson) Cadle, 64 of Culloden, formerly of Florida went home to the Lord Tuesday September 18, 2012 at Rose Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Culloden after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delmar and Mary Smith Samson, sister Deloris Smith and brother Sebert Samson.

She worked in the medical field as a nurse formerly at CAMC General Hospital, in Florida  and had also worked in real estate sales.

She is survived by her daughter; Mona Michelle Mills of Buckhannon, sisters; Doris Oxley of Dunbar, Patricia Adkins of South Charleston, Sylvia Harless of Sod, Ilean Torman of Hurricane, Eva Canter of Taylorsville, North Carolina, brother; Lester Samson of Sod, grandchildren; Sean Rodrigeuz and Brianna Mills.

Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 pm Saturday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek.

Jackie Dean McClure

Jackie Dean McClure, 68, of Suisun City, CA, formerly of Alkol, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012.

Jackie was born in Lincoln County, WV and raised in Alkol.  He was a 1962 graduate of Duval High School and joined the U.S. Air Force and retired with 20 years of service.  He married Penny Adkins and after retiring from the Air Force they moved to California, where he worked for Union Oil.

Jackie and his wife raised four children and also took care of numerous foster children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Virginia McClure of Alkol; one sister, Gloria Jean Nelson Hill of Ocala, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Penny; two daughters, Tina and Mary; two sons, J.D. and wife, Casey and Eugene and wife, Gina; five grandchildren, Tess, Makayla, Malik, Mason and Ashlyn; two sisters, Betty Kramlick and husband, Jim of Milford, DE; Suzann Hall and husband, Denver of Alkol; two brothers, Junior and wife, Diann of Morrisvale and Timmy and wife, Joyce of Danville.   Special friends Kyle, Cindy, Trey and Tucker Breedlove of Julian.

He will be saldy missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Spurlocksville Church of Christ with Minister Richard Runyan officiating. Family and friends  will gather  one hour prior to the service.

Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is assisting the family with arrangements.

James Henry Brumfield

James Henry Brumfield, 81, of Sumerco passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clemon and Gracie Brumfield;  his wife, Pearl Brumfield and sister, Lillian Mitchell.  He was a retired mechanic.  Also a member and deacon of the Porter Fork Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons: Richard (Donna) of Cleveland, OH; Ronald (Kathy) and Rodney (Catherine) of Yawkey; Ottie (Pauline) of Elizabeth; Daughters: Sharon Bias of Lake City, FL; Sherry (Tim) Withrow of Greensboro, NC;  Brother: Carvin (Carol) Kyle of Canton, OH;  Sister: Bethelen (Lowell) Bryant of Yawkey; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He also left a host of nephews, nieces, and friends behind.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Oshel Bell and David Vickers officiating.  Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Sweetland.   Family and friends may call from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
