Fint N. Parsons

May 10th, 2013 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries - (2 Comments)

Fint Norman Parsons, 78, of North Olmsted, OH, died Tuesday morning, May 7, 2013.

He was born in Olcott, West Virginia, on June 5th, 1934, to the late Nellie and Roscoe Parsons.  After graduating from Washington District High School, he married Carol Joyce Bowman of Alum Creek, WV, on June 5th, 1954.

Fint attended Charleston Business School of Commerce and Morris Harvey College, after which he was hired by Goodrich Gulf.  His employment there brought him in 1960 to Cleveland.  Given the opportunity for advancement, Fint, Carol, and their two girls, Cynthia and Molly, left Cleveland for Dayton, OH, where Fint took a position as a Comptroller and Plant Manager with Amole, Inc.  Fint returned to Cleveland in 1976 to work as Controller for Kirkwood Industries until his retirement in 1996.

In life and in remembrance, Fint is beloved by his family and those who knew him.  He was above all a singularly gentle man—quiet, kind, and affectionate, particularly with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He spoke deliberately and wasted neither words nor the occasion for a joke.  His stories were quiet and rich, and he told them with a wry, ornery wit.  To sit and talk with him, slowly, was an afternoon well-spent.  Fint drank coffee well into the evening and watched the Indians play baseball.  He read widely and insatiably, and he listened to old country records in the basement.  He scratched his children and grandchildren with his whiskers.  He did not speak poorly of others and listened to those who requested his counsel with empathy and care.  He was a straightforwardly good man—good in a way that came naturally to him. That’s just the way he was, as he might say.  Most of all, he was adored, deeply and demonstrably, by his family, who will miss him terribly.

For almost sixty years, Fint and Carol built a life together, one filled with laughter, love, and children’s voices.  He brought her a cup of coffee every morning.  From the hills of West Virginia to the city lights of Cleveland—and, now, back again—Carol was and remains his home.

Fint is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Cynthia (Tris) Cooper of Marion, OH and Molly (Michael) Neider of Avon, OH; four grandchildren, Adam (Kate) Turner of Columbus, OH, Brandon (Rebecca) Turner of Clemson, SC, Cole Ackerman of Cleveland, OH, and Jillian (Philip) Hutchinson of Jacksonville, NC; five great-grandchildren, Henry, Sadie, June, Georgiana, and Dashiell; eight sisters: Shelby Carrier, Mary (Charles) Kidd, Carol (Jim) Pauley, all of South Charleston, Janice Pauley of Sod, Kay Wing of St. Albans, Becky (Jerry) Mannon of Sod, Karen (Doug) Hudson of Sneads Ferry, NC, Margie (Dean) Teaney of Fayetteville, and one brother: Roscoe (Cindy) Parsons of Charleston, along with ten nieces and nine nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fint’s memory to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

Calling hours will be held at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek, WV from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, May 11th; the funeral will be held immediately following at 1:00pm with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lively Cemetery at Sod, WV.
