David Lee Kelly II

David Lee Kelly, II, 56, of Wilson, NC died at home Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Debora Jane Eberhart.

He is survived by his loving family, including his sisters, Laura Whitehurst, and husband Marshall Pal, of Greenville, NC, Kimberly Jean Kelly, and husband, Terri McKelvey, of Clarksburg, MD; brother, Christopher Warren Kelly, and wife, Sharon, of Warner-Robins, GA; nephew, Nickolas David McKelvey, of Clarksburg, MD; niece, Kristie LillKendey, of FL; and a great niece, Emma Leigh LillKendey, of FL.

Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, May 8 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston.

 

James L. Tugwell Jr.

James L. Tugwell Jr. 73 of South Charleston passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou Tugwell, and parents James and Pearl Bryant Tugwell.

He is survived by his daughters Tracy Tugwell and Tiffiney D. Starnes and son, Tim Tugwell.

A graveside service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at Dunbar.

 

 

 

Suzann McClure Hall

Suzann HallSuzann McClure Hall, 64, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 2, 2014 at CAMC General after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Denver Hall; parents,  Elmo and Virginia McClure; brother, Jackie and sister, Gloria Jean.

She is survived by her daughter, Mindy (Rex) Christian of Yawkey; brothers, Junior (Diane) McClure and Timmie (Joyce) McClure; sister, Betty (Jim) Kramlich; five grandchildren, Melinda (Dillion) McCartney, Ben, Crystal, Chris and Peter and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating.  Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

 

 

 

Brian Franklin Griffith

Brian Griffith

Brian Franklin Griffith, 49, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a member of the Cement Masons Local #926, and former employee of Garcie Marker & Sons. He loved to fish on Williams and Cranberry rivers with his friends, loved to hunt and loved Nascar.

He is survived by his loving wife: Kim, son: Cole Griffith; daughter, Nicole Hughes, his loving parents: Frankie & Norma Jean Griffith; two sisters: Pam (Pat) Dunlap and Cindy (Chuck) Bays; brother: Randy (Debra) Griffith; two grandsons and  parents-in-law: Bob & Sue Hudson and many other family and friends that Brian dearly loved!

Service will be 3:00 Sunday, April 27, 2014 at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be at French Cemetery, Charleston.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Brian Plants, Dr. Takubo, Dr. Shah and his hospice nurse Laura Harvey.

Brian will be missed by so many friends and family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made toward funeral services.

Bernice C. Elkins

Bernice C. Elkins of Alkol, WV, at the age of 100 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Arb Elkins. They were owners of Elkins Exxon at Alkol. She was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years.

She is survived by her 2 sons: Bob and wife Pat Elkins of St. Albans and Daryle and wife, Jean Elkins of Alkol; Also survived by three grandchildren: Shann Elkins and wife Heather and Stacy and husband Ric Leadman and Bruce Whitten; Great-Grandchildren: Kelsey and Alaina Leadman; Caroline, Cade, Cole and Camden Elkins; 3 Sisters: Brentha Linville , Martha Davis and Ethel Shirley and one brother: Charles Miller and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 1:00pm at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Butch Leadman officiating. Burial will be at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her caregivers. Contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV 25387 in memory of Bernice.

Charles Edward Estep

Charles Estep
Charles Edward Estep, 77, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

He was a supervisor in road construction until his retirement. Charles served in the U. S. Army and was a very active member of the American Legion Logan, WV Post 19.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Allie Estep; brother, Robert Estep; and great granddaughter, Chelsie Dawn Estep Barker.

Charles is survived by companion and life partner, Linda Estep; children, Pattie Estep and Mary Renick; step-son, Rick McCoy; brother, Jimmy Estep; granddaughters, Nicole and Thisha; great granddaughters, Khloe and Peyton and very dear friend, Martha Ryan.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, April 13, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Brounland Cemetery with military graveside conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Theodore D. “Jim” Lively

Theodore LivelyTheodore D. “Jim”  Lively, 81, of South Charleston, entered into the rest of our Lord on Tuesday,  April 8, 2014.  He passed peacefully at his home and now awaits the trumpet call of the resurrection and eternal life with Jesus.

Jim worked as a steel fabricator in the Kanawha Valley beginning at Swain Steel and continued until his retirement as a shop foreman.   He loved to garden and work with his hands.  It was often said he could build or fix anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ethel Lively; brother, Joe; sister, Rachel Hager and infant sister, Sharon Lively.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Pauley Lively; daughter, Darlene Burton (John); only grandson, Russell Mills (Bianca) of Jupiter, FL; sisters, Eula Howerton (Leo) and Linda Johnson; and sister-in-law, Lura Mann.  He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Jim served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean era separating as Sgt.  He was a faithful member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served as elder and deacon.  He taught Bible Studies and lead many to know Jesus Christ.  He followed faithfully the command of our Lord to love and serve one another by countless acts of kindness and mercy.   He was a humble and patient man with a kind and gentle spirit.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 12, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Rodney Davis officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

Billie Sue Wright

Billie Sue Wright, 86, of St. Albans, went home to the Lord Monday, April 7, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was a hard working,  beautiful lady.  She started her career at Shoney’s, was a model for Haddad’s and then worked in the medical field for 40 years.  Working for Dr. Spanis and Dr. Foundis.  Later in life, she moved to Florida and worked for Med-Pool.  Billie absolutely adored her grandchildren and great granddaughter, loving all the time she spent with family and friends.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wright; parents, William and Evelyn Stone; brother, Harry Stone and daughter, Patricia Kay James.

Leaving behind and to be with her someday are her son, John (Dick) Hanson; caregiver and grandson, Greg (Clara) Garber; grandchildren, Mike Garber Kimberly Pauley (Tony), Angie Diehl (Tom), Thomas James, Kelly Haynes (Jeremy), Cherie Walls (John); nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston, where Entombment will follow.   Pastor Frank Chapman will be officiating the service.

Gerald “Omer” Fannin

Gerald FanninGerald “Omer” Fannin, 61, of Charleston died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at CAMC General Division, Charleston.

He was retired from the Charleston Police Department; he also worked at AIG Insurance Co.; and a member of the American Legion.

Omer was preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Fannin and grandmother, Bernice Darling.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Bowman Fannin; two daughters, Jennifer Adkinson and Jamie Fannin; three stepchildren, Jackie, Jenny and Lisa; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and best friends and brother-in-law, Paul and Barbara Bowman.

A Memorial Service will be 4:00 pm Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Graveside Rites conducted by the  VFW Post 4768 of Alum Creek.

 

Russell Lee “Pete” Ashworth

Russell AshworthRussell Lee “Pete” Ashworth, 78, of Alum Creek went to be with the Lord in the faith and promise of Jesus Christ.  A Christian since April 1960, “I have nothing to bragg about save the Lord.”

He served in the U. S. Marines from 1953 – 1961 and was a 33 year employee of Union Carbide Rhone-Poulenc and a member of Independent Missionary Baptist of Alum Creek.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dohnna Means Ashworth; parents, Ernest E. and Ida Mays Ashworth; sisters, Margaret Songer and Evelyn Evans; brothers, Grover Atlee, Paul Y. and Lovell Ashworth; brothers-in-law, Paul Songer, Charles Evans and Darrell McMellon.

He is survived by his loyal fiancee, Loleta Justice; adopted son, Mark Ashworth; stepson, Freddie Jansohn and wife and their children; brothers, Charles E. and wife, Louise Ashworth; sisters, Judy McMellon Black and husband, Fred, and Carolyn Sue and husband, James McClure; and many nieces, nephews and family members.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, April 11, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek, with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
