James “Corbet” Angel, 69, of Alum Creek entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Raleigh County on March 7, 1945, to Rex and Sarah Angel, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Rex Vaughn Angel and Larry Angel; and sisters, Mabel Thacker and Lillian Clark.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Janet Vannatter Angel; son, Steve Angel; daughter, Vickie Angel; grandchildren, Brandon (Lauren) Angel, Mike (Jessica) McCormick, Derek (Misty) Angel and Taylor Tabor; great grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Gavin and Natalie; brother, Harvey Angel; sisters, Della (Roger) Clay, Portlee (Howard) Clark, Euna King and Vicky Wright. Also surviving him are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Last, but not least, left to miss him is his sweet dog, Miley, who provided much happiness, love and companionship to him in his last few years of life.
He had many hobbies and interests, his biggest being his interest and love of NASCAR. He stayed active all of his life until the last four years when his declining health prevented him from doing so.
He was a hard-working and proud man. He was retired from WQ Watters with over twenty-nine years of service as a painter and sand blaster. Those who truly knew him knew that his family was his main priority and what he was most proud of. He put his family and others before himself and will be remembered as a selfless man. He adored his wife with all that he had. He put her on a pedestal and showed us all the type of love a husband should have for his wife. He also loved his son, daughter and grandchildren with all of his heart. He was a true patriarch and rock to his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 13, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
