Janet Jenkins

 

Janet Lea Jenkins, 52, of Charleston, passed away at home after a short illness on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

She was preceded in death by son, Dusty, parents, Hubert & Maxie Harper and brother, Ed.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, James Sr; son, James, Jr (Christine); daughter, Amanda Dawn Jenkins; five brothers; six sisters; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:00pm Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Burial will follow at Cobb Family Cemetery, Sod.  Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service.

Virginia Annalee Cornell Toney

Anna Toney 2Virginia Annalee Cornell Toney, 85, of Branchland, WV passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 3am.

Annalee was born March 25, 1929 in Buffalo, Putnam Co., WV.  She came to Lincoln County at a young age.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Luther Lee Toney; sons, Lonnie Curry and Dennis Pauley; and grandsons, Christopher Lee Cornell and Mark Twain Pauley; sisters, Louise Gillenwater, Faye Jeffers and Ruby Whittington; brothers, Donald Ray, Andrew Paul and Stanley Buel Cornell.  She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Adam and Virgie Luvilla (Criner) Cornell.

Annalee is survived by her children, Doris (Ray) Pauley of Scott Depot, Luther Ray (Ann) Toney and Stanley David Toney both of Branchland; brothers, Billy Cornell of Michigan and Leonard Cornell of Ohio; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, November 18, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with her son, Ray Toney officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cross Creek Cemetery, Buffalo.  Friends will gather one hour prior at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations toward the funeral service.

Zane “Sparkplug” Tackett

Zane TacketZane “Sparkplug” Tackett, 82, of Alum Creek decided to go to Heaven Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

He was retired from General Motors, Parma, Ohio.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 63 years, Norma (Smith) Tackett; children, Cheryl (Joe) James, Debbie (Joe) Zedella, Jimmy (Cindy) Tackett and Richard Tackett; grandfather of Sherri (Craig), Bobby, Billy (Heather),  Christopher (Marlene) and Joey (Maureen); great grandfather of Nick (Emily), Hannah (Chuck), Tony, Destini, James and Dexter.   Zane was loved by many and will be missed by many.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Sunday, November 16, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Tommy Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow in Barker Cemetery, Ashford.  The family will receive friends from 11-1pm Sunday.

James “Corbet” Angel

James Corbet AngelJames “Corbet” Angel, 69, of Alum Creek entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Raleigh County on March 7, 1945, to Rex and Sarah Angel, who preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Rex Vaughn Angel and Larry Angel; and sisters, Mabel Thacker and Lillian Clark.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Janet Vannatter Angel; son, Steve Angel; daughter, Vickie Angel; grandchildren, Brandon (Lauren) Angel, Mike (Jessica) McCormick, Derek (Misty) Angel and Taylor Tabor; great grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Gavin and Natalie; brother, Harvey Angel; sisters, Della (Roger) Clay, Portlee (Howard) Clark, Euna King and Vicky Wright.  Also surviving him are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.  Last, but not least, left to miss him is his sweet dog, Miley, who provided much happiness, love and companionship to him in his last few years of life.

He had many hobbies and interests,  his biggest being his interest and love of NASCAR.  He stayed active all of his life until the last four years when his declining health prevented him from doing so.

He was a hard-working and proud man.  He was retired from WQ Watters with over twenty-nine years of service as a painter and sand blaster.  Those who truly knew him knew that his family was his main priority and what he was most proud of.  He put his family and others before himself and will be remembered as a selfless man.  He adored his wife with all that he had.  He put her on a pedestal and showed us all the type of love a husband should have for his wife.  He also loved his son, daughter and grandchildren with all of his heart.  He was a true patriarch and rock to his family.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, November 13, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Todd Cornell

Todd CornellTodd Cornell, 32, of Charleston passed on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at home.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jonathan; and mother, Lana Gillenwater.

Todd is survived by his wife, Angie; children, Zachary and Caleb Curry, Dakota and Emily Wiblen; a red headed stepchild, Trey Runyon; father, Larry; stepfather, Mike Gillenwater; sister, Tiffany (David) Hall; and nieces Lily and Delilah Hall.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Deborah ChandlerDeborah Chandler, 58, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 7, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Johnnie; son, Johnnie Franklin Chandler and  Stephanie ; daughter, Becky Lilly (Todd Mosteller); sisters, Martha (Ronnie) Baker and Donna (William) Baire; brothers, Eddie, Teddy, Tommy (Lisa)  and David Eskew; 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Savanna, Madison, Chloe, Matthew, Jeffrey and Allison;  and 2 great grandchildren, Grayson and Malie.Funeral service will be 2:30 pm Sunday, November 9 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.   Burial will follow at Chandler Family Cemetery, Alum Creek.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests  contributions toward funeral service.

Samples, 60, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord  Sunday, November 2, 2014 at CAMC General Division after an accidental injury.He was preceded in death by his stepfather, John “Peanut” Brown and brother, Rick Samples.David is survived by his mom, Shirley Brown of St. Albans; sister, Kimberly (Wayne) Kidd and half-sister, Karen Miller; half-brother, Tim; nieces, Jessica (Raymond) Wise, who was his caregiver and best friend and Amanda Wickline; nephew, Travis Wickline; brother-in-law to the end, Gary Leach; brother from another mother, Richard Parsons; great nephews, Cayden and Tristen Wise; loyal friend, Brenda Hancock and red headed stepsister, Debbie Hale.A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Patsy R. Hager

Patsy R. Hager, 62, of Alkol, WV, went to heaven in a rowboat on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at CAMC-General Division.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Hager.

She is survived by her children: Rachael (Mike) Adkins; Eugene “Moose” VanGundy and his wife, Dina; Mary Pauley and her fiancee Jennifer Moore; Her mother: Brownie Hager, sisters: Peggy and Priscilla Hager and brother Bruce (Sandy) Hager. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Seth Pauley, Zac & McKayla Adkins, Sarah Searls, Jacob Pauley, Garrett and Evan VanGundy and great-granddaughter, Halleigh Adkins – Sweetheart.

A private graveside service will be held at Hager Cemetery, Alkol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alum Creek VFW Post 4768, RR 7 Box 290, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Robert C. “Bob” Olsen

Bob Olson Robert C. “Bob” Olson, 83, went home, Saturday, November 1,  to be with his heavenly Father and is now singing in the heavenly choir.

He was a member of the Briar Creek Baptist Church, where he was the choir director and assistant teacher;  a Veteran of the Korean War and a life member of the VFW Post 4768 Alum Creek.   He retired from Porter Properties with 35 years service.

Bob loved the outdoors, hunting and the mountains of Pocahontas County.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill C. and  Ethel (Pickens) Olson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Donna  McCallister Olson;  sons, Robert Jr. (Betty), Tommy (Donna) and Bill (Judy); daughters, Libby (Roy)  Fulks and Belinda (Blane) Barker ; brothers, Jackie and David Olson;  11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.   Bob will be greatly missed by a host of friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, November 5, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Tommy Roberts and Steve Morris officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston,  with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768,   PO  Box 290,  South Charleston, WV 25309.

Jackie S. Garnes

Jackie S. Garnes, 67, of Alkol, went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 31, 2014, after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam H. Mays and Juanita Mays; and brother, Lakin Mays.

Jackie is survived by her husband, William Frederick Garnes and one sister, Vanessa Gale Young, both of Alkol, WV, and one son, Adam D. Hill (husband, Michael) of Washington, D.C.

The family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice Care, especially Libby, Melanie, Jack, Tony, Edee, and Chaplin Terry Yahr, and the staff of Curry Funeral Home for all the loving care and compassion given to my mother and family.

At Jackie’s request, there will be no service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her name be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV 25387-2536.
