Ronald Stutler

May 3rd, 2012 | Posted by in Obituaries

Ronald (Red) Stutler, 87, of St. Albans and recently Knoxville, TN passed from this life Monday, April 30, 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; daughter, Linda (Jim) Maines of Knoxville, TN where he lived the past six months; grandson, Robert Maines and great-grandchildren Lauren and Rees Maines all of Kokomo, Indiana.

He started attending Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at the age of six and received Christ as his Saviour in 1952, where he later served as a deacon and remained faithful until his health failed. He was retired from Columbia Gas Systems after-which he and his wife volunteered at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

The following is a tribute from his grandson, “Ronald Stutler was a good man. A WWII Army Veteran, part of a dying breed, that served his country honorably and with distinction in the South Pacific, seeing things that would scar him for life. He was a man strong in his Christian Faith, who was the Adult Sunday School teacher at Pleasant Hill for many years, and lead the choir on Sunday mornings. He took me fishing as a kid. He was my maternal grandfather, my Pawpaw. This morning he passed from this world to be with the Lord in Heaven where he will finally be free of the heartaches and burdens of this life, and know God’s peace and comfort at last.”

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Tornado with Pastors Butch Leadman, Fred Connery and Tim Campbell officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites conducted by St. Albans Service Organizations at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 – 1:00 pm at the church.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to HospiceCare, especially his nurses, Brenda, Ashley and Anita and also to the caregivers of Stay at Home, Barbara and Connie. Floral tributes are welcome or memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 1420 Dutch Valley Road, Suite C, Knoxville, TN 37918.

It was with sadness I read today about Red’s passing. When I was in College I worked one summer at Hubball Compressor station with Red. I am now 61 so that was long ago. I have very fond memories of Red and his co worker John Searls. They were always doing something to keep you laughing. One ritual they did every day was that Red loved underwood turkey and brought it in his lunch every day. At lunch time John would ask Red what he had for lunch. Red would always respond “I don’t know, let me see”. He then would open his lunch and with a great deal of suprise say “Turkey!”. My condolences go out to you, his family and I just wanted to share the fact that he brought joy and encouragement to a young college student many years ago.

Thank you Ed for this memory of my father. He was a great man for sure and will be missed. He received full military honors which he certainly deserved. Again ~ thanks for your condolences to us. My mom is still living and will be returning with me to live in Knoxville, TN.
