Diane R. Pauley, 58 of Alum Creek, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at home after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Rahn Allen.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; one sister, Mary Anne Allen Harris and husband Carl of Ashland, VA; two brothers, John A. Allen, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM and George S. Allen of South Charleston; three step-daughters, Kim Sharp of Poca; Robin Pauley of White Plains, NY; Tina Pauley of Phoenix, AZ; one step-grandson, Robert Tabor of Poca; several nieces and nephews; special cousin, Roberta Bradford of Poughkeepsie, NY.

A memorial service will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, West Virginia 25064.

Altha O. Kirk, 68 of Sissonville, formerly of Brounland, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, April 26, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

She was retired from CAMC Memorial Division and attended the Maranatha Baptist Church at Sissonville.

She is survived by her: Husband: George W.; 1 Daughter: Pamela K. Hudnall of Hernshaw; 3 Sons: Billy R. Kirk of Sissonville; Douglas W. Kirk both of Sissonville; Donald E. Kirk of Goldtown; 2 Sisters: Ruth Marshall of Grayson, KY; Janet Baire of Brounland; 2 Brothers: Donnie Pauley of Big Chimney; Rodney Pauley of Brounland; 6 Grandchildren, 2 Great Granddaughters and expecting 1 additional great grandson;

Services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at the Maranatha Baptist Church, located just off the Tuppers Creek Exit #111 of I 77 N. in Sissonville, with Pastor Bill Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 6 to 9 PM Monday at the Maranatha Baptist Church. Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Mark S. Duncan, 45 of Alum Creek, died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at home of an apparent heart attack.

He was an employee of EDS Corp., South Charleston and a former employee of American Electric Power for 23 years. He was past president of the Mountaineer Little League for two years and was presently the treasurer and information officer.

He is survived by his:
Parents: Bobby and Eulah Fay Duncan of Alum Creek, 2 Sisters: Kim Rodeheaver and Denise Hannan both of Cross Lanes, 1 Nephew: Andrew Duncan; 1 Niece: Stephania Rodeheaver.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek on Tuesday Apri123, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Phillip Bowles and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Monday, April 22, 2002 at the funeral home. Alice Lore Townsend, 81 of South Charleston, died Friday, April 19, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a long illness.

Ruth Louise Hall

Ruth Louise Hall, 73 of Sumerco, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.

She was a retired postmaster from Sumerco Post Office, a member of the Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Alum Creek.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hall on February 14, 2002.

She is survived by her: 1 Son: Rev. Gary Hall of Charleston; 2 Sisters: Carmen Reynolds of Peach Creek; Helena Mills of Kettering, OH; 2 Grandchildren: Windy Beaver and Scott Hall; 2 Great Grandchildren. Shawn and Katlyn Beaver.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Clarence Hutton officiating. Burial will be held in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call on Wednesday, Apri117, 2002 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Please support hospice.

Sandra Kay Via James, 53 of Charleston, formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 11, 2002 at CAMC General Division.

She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helna Alta Scott Vickers.

She is survived by her: 2 Daughters Tammy Pauley of Myrtle Beach, SC; Cynthia Harper of Charleston, WV; Father: Curtis C. Vickers of Sissonville, WV; 3 Brothers: John Allen Vickers of Polk City, FL; Harold Glen Vickers of South Charleston, WV; Wayne Vickers of Bradenton, FL; 4 Grandsons: Joseph, Ronnie, Jacob and Matthew Harper.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Sunday, April 14, 2002 from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home.

William H. Coiner

William H. Coiner, 78 of McCorkle, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired Army Command Sergeant Major with 23 years of service, a WWII Army Paratrooper during which he served as a member of the 517 Airborne Combat Regimental Team, and fought in five major campaigns in the European Theater of Operations. He also served in the 101st and 11th Airborne divisions. He was a coal miner and a union construction laborer. He was a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents: William I; Olive J. Alderman Coiner; brother: Randall E. Coiner; Sister: June Coiner.

He is survived by his: Wife: Thelma Florene “Flo”; 2 Sons: William J. “Jink” Coiner of Waverly; Ralph Eugene “Spike” Coiner of McCorkle; 1 Brother: Jack Coiner of Ravenswood; 1 Sister: Betty Smith of Ocala, FL; 6 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, April l 1, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla Post #4768 in conjunction with a Ft. Knox detachment will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Rev. Bobby Gene “Shorty” Barker, 62 of South Charleston, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.

He was a member of God’s Tabernacle, Spring Hill, and an ordained minister thru Church of God Mission, and former Pastor of several local churches including, Valley Drive Church of God Mission; Winfield Church of God Mission; West Dunbar Community Church; Sovine Church of God Mission, Hanna Drive; and God’s Tabernacle, Spring Hill. He served on the advisory board for the Church of God Mission and God’s Tabernacle. He was a veteran and retired from the State of West Virginia, Maternal and Child Health Division.

He is survived by his: Wife: Patricia Ann Barker; 1 Son: Richard Allen Barker of South Charleston; 1 Daughter: Rita Ann Marinelli of Charleston; 1 Granddaugnter: Amanda; 5 Grandsons: Ryan, Owen, Tony, Joshua and Peter, and many close friends and family.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, Apri110, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randy Stanley, Rev. Henry C. Stanley and Rev. Tim Young officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Tuesday, Apri19, 2002 from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
