Leonard D. “Peck” Brogan, Sr., 73 of McCorkle, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.
He was a member of Local 80 Asbestos Workers Union, an U.S. Anny veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion. “Peck” was the former owner and operator of Riverside Restaurant and Peck’s E-Z Mart at Alum Creek, and Peck’s Auto Sales. He also had Peck’s Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Leonard David Brogan, Jr. and his wife, Teresa of McCorkle; grandson, Todd Brogan and his wife, Julie of McCorkle; great grandson, Eli Brogan; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor Michael Kordusky officiating. Burial will beheld in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Saturday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Barbara White McCormick

Barbara White McCormick, 72, of Charleston, formerly of Lincoln County, went home to be with the Lord February 3, 2004.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lucille White; and brothers, Toreodo, Thomas, Foster, and Ephraim White.

Barbara was a member of Bethany Baptist Church on Greenbrier Street. She attended Marshall University, taught school in Lincoln County and worked at CAMC for 10 years. Above all else, Barbara was an ambassador of love throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her children, Charles D. McCormick, Debra “T.J.” Vickers, and husband, James, Frank McCormick and wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Cali McCormick, Vesper Miller and husband, Zach, Leah McCormick and Seth McCormick; two great grandchildren, Raven and Sparrow McCormick; sister-in-law, Geraldine White; friend and former husband, Chiltie McCormick; nieces, grandnieces and nephews, cousins and sisters; and all who claimed and knew her as Mother and friend, including the extended family of personnel at Meadowbrook Acres.

Service will be 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Rodney Smith and Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Pazk, South Charleston. Friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM and 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Barbara and her family wish to express appreciation and thanks to all the individuals who have helped through their love and assistance at this time of rejoicing and sorrow.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff of CAMC Memorial Hospital, 3 North, and everyone at Meadowbrook Acres.

Doug Schmidt, 55, of St. Albans was called home to be with the Lord Monday, February 2, 2004 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

He was a former partner with Dunn Engineers of Charleston and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church at St. Albans.

Doug is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, two daughters, Jordin Faith Schmidt and Whitney Hope Schmidt both of St. Albans and one sister, Helen Carpenter of South Charleston.

Services will be 8:00 PM Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Trinity Baptist Church St. Albans with Pastor Allen Stewart officiating. A private family committal service will be Friday at Cunningham Memorial Pazk, St. Albans. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM at the church. The family also request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to TrinityBaptist Church, 2031 Harrison Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Henry Perdue, 90, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2004.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Macil; son, David; grandson, Charles J. Sigmon, Jr.; sister, Aunt Susie Turley and his mom and dad.
He was retired from Interstate Equipment and a member of UMWA.

He is survived by his two sons, Jim Perdue of Cambridge, Ohio and Rick Perdue of Alum Creek; three daughters, Brenda Miller, Virginia Krebs and Laura Sigmon all of Alum Creek; two brothers, Billy Perdue of Baltimore, Maryland and Isom Perdue of Logan; 20 Grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will beheld in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

He was a retired carpenter from K & M Builders in South Charleston.
He is survived by his: Wife: Betty; Daughters: Sherry Shahan, Teresa Turana and Londa Shahan Son: Thomas; Step Sons: Tom, Joe and James Sansom Brothers: David, Bill and Jerry; Sisters: Burma Helms, Vada Ryan, Nancy Lovell and Cindy Taylor; Seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Services will be 2:00 Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Pete Thompson officiating. Burial will be in French Cemetery, Davis Creek. He was a retired member of Labors Union Local 1353 and a member of the Summit Community Church at Sumerco.

He is survived by his: 2 Sons: Steve Hudson of Griffithsville, WV; Scott Hudson of Sumerco, WV; 2 Daughters: Debbie Adkins of Sumerco, WV; Joan Latimer of Mississippi; Sister: Mary Ray of Franklin, WV; 3 Brothers: Granville “Joby” Hudson of Michigan; Orville Hudson of Spokane, Washington; Gene Hudson of Gilbert, Arizona; 3 Grand-daughters; 4 Grandson;s 1 Great Grand-daughter.

She was a Christian.

Stephenson; 3 brothers: Carl, Lawrence, and Harvey Williams; 1 sister: Dora Parsons; 3 grandchildren: Tabitha Gravely Burdette; Jeremiah and Tia Gravely; 1 Great Granddaughter: Montana Skye Graveley.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation toward funeral expenses.
The family expresses a special “thank you” to Sammy Cobb and to all who called and came to visit Betty. She will be greatly missed.

She was a retired Unit Clerk at CAMC Memorial and a daughter of the late Joe and Virginia Johnson of Nitro.

She is survived by her: Husband: Edward;Daughter: Dianna Newcome of Charleston; Son: Stanley Wilson of Charleston; Sister: Charlotte Huffman of Kentucky; 1 Grand-daughter: Destiny Newcome of Cross Lanes; 3 Claimed Grandchildren: Kevin, Lindsey and Austin Wilson all of Charleston.

Services will be held Saturday January 31, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Rev. David Walls officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Friday at the funeral home.

George A. Richardson Sr.

George A. Richardson, Sr., 79, of Rand, passed away January 24, 2004.

Mr. Richardson was born April 19, 1924 to his parents the Benjamin and Mary Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Leon Richardson, sisters, Norma Jean Kibler and Helen Geraldine Winbon and his son, George A. Richardson, Jr.
George was a retired brick mason, and a member of Bricklayers Union for over 50 years. He served in WWII in the United States Nary and was a member of the Belle Church of Christ.

He is survived by his children, Rev. Gregory L. Richardson of South Charleston, Warrenetta Clark of Charleston, Gary R. Richardson of Tampa, Florida, N. Gene Richardson of Dunbar, Geoff M. Richardson of South Charleston. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Services will beheld Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the South Charleston Church of Christ, 309 4`s Avenue, South Charleston with Geoff M. Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

She was retired from L C O C at Hamlin, and a member of the Sumerco Community Church.

She is survived by her: Husband: Okey; Sons: Okey Justice, Jr. and Garmey Landers both of Sumerco; Daughters: Lora J. Johnson and Nichole A. Workman both of Sumerco; Wendy N. Justice at home; A host of foster children; Mother: Lucille Spalding of Sumerco; Brother: Gary Hunt of Charlotte, NC; Sisters: Della Lowe of Sumerco; Patricia Coen of North Charleston; 8 Grandchildren.
