Charles E. McCormick, 61 of Sod, died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was born and raised at Woodville. He formerly worked for Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is survived by: Wife: Nancy; 1 Son: Homer McCormick of Cleveland, OH; 1 Daughter: Cindy McCormick of Cleveland, OH; 2 Brothers: Earl McCormick of Ripley, WV; Vernard McCormick of Sod, WV; 2 Sisters: Pearl Hazless of Beckley, WV; Sue Pauley of South Charleston, WV; 6 Grandsons.

At his request, the body has been cremated. There will not be any services. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

Mary Carrier Haynes

Mary Carrier Haynes, 71, of South Charleston, died October 5, 2001 at her home following a long illness. She was born March 17, 1930, at Trace Fork, to the late Dana and Anna Carrier Pauley.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Haynes.

She is survived by: 1 Daughter and Son-in-law: Kimberly Walker and her husband Stephen Walker; The joys of her life: Grandson: J. Logan Walker Granddaughter: Patricia E. Walker; Sisters: Faye Moss of South Charleston, WV Phyllis Boardman of South Charleston, WV; 2 Brothers: Ralph and Gene Pauley both of South Charleston, WV.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was a member of Trinity Independent Baptist Church and the Kanawha Trail Club.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes the body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2001, at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Gene Pauley officiating. Interment will be at the Pauley family cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mary’s memory to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, WV 25064.

Dallas Miller

Dallas Miller, 72 of Lakin, formerly of Alkol, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at Pleasant Valley Hospital Emergency Room, Point Pleasant after a short illness.

He is a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by: 1 Son: Jerry Adkins of IL; 2 Sisters: Audra Peck of South Charleston, WV; Jean Dingess of Alkol, WV; 1 Granddaughter.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2001 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating. Burial will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

John A. Matthews

John A. Matthews, 84 of Sod, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was retired from F.M.C. in South Charleston with 38 years of service. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church for 56 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a WWII Navy veteran decorated for bravery and was preceded in death by his grandson, Bill Huffman.

He is survived by his: Wife: Artena McCallister Matthews; 1 Daughter: Sue Huffman of Sod, WV; 1 Son: John D. Matthews of Alum Creek, WV; 2 Sisters: Garnet Vickers of Alkol, WV; Wynoka Kelley of Yawkey, WV; 3 Grandchildren: Tina Humphries, Jonathan and Michelle Matthews; 2 Great Grandchildren: Elijah Huffman and Hayley Humphries.

Services will beheld at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 7 to 9 PM and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

Bobby Eldon Saul

Bobby Eldon Saul, 62 of Yawkey, died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at home following an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Saul was born September 19, 1939, the son of Crever and Irene Saul of Yawkey. He was retired from Saul Construction, Inc.

He is survived by his: 3 Daughters: Leah Saul Sowards of Yawkey, WV; Lesly Danielle Saul of Brunswick, GA; Hannah Saul Hawkins of Phoenix, AZ; 3 Sons: Scott Eldon Saul of Yawkey, WV; James Edward “Jamie” Saul of Yawkey, WV; Malachi Saul Hawkins of Phoenix, AZ; Companion: Kerri Moore of Yawkey, WV;
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Crever Saul of Yawkey, WV.

A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Oshel Bell will be held 2 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.

He was a construction welder, a 1971 graduate of George Washington High School, and was a Christian of the Holiness faith.

Lonnie Graley, 81 of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 17, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, after a long illness.

He was a rubber mill operator in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is survived by his: 6 Daughters: Diane Hannah of Tyler Mountain; Pamela Boggs of Spring Hill; Wanda Cooley of Charleston; Melody Pourfarhadi of Columbus, OH; Susie Myers of St. Albans; Tina Ertl of Columbus, OH; 1 Sister: Trilba Roberts of Minnesota; 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ezra Graley officiating. Burial will be held in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 18, 2001 from 7 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home.

Paul L. Miller

Paul L. Miller, 28 of Sod, died Friday, September 14, 2001 at CAMC General Division as a result of injuries he received Friday while working to repair heavy equipment at Progress Coal Co., in Twlight, West Virginia.

He was a diesel mechanic for Cummins Cumberland Inc., with seven years service and was a member of the Teamsters Local #175. He graduated with the Duval High School Class of 1992 and was a graduate of the Ohio Auto-Diesel Technical Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

He left surviving his wife of 7 years: Jodi Madden Miller; Five year old son: Reece; Two year old daughter: Bobbi RaeAnn; Father: Michael Miller of Alkol, W V; Mother and Step Father: Sandra and Roger Richmond of Alkol, WV; 2 Brothers: Jeffrey and Michael Miller both of Alkol, W V; Grandmothers: Izola Meadows and Anna Gae Harless both of Alkol, WV; Grandfather: Kendal Roberts of Woodville, WV; Great Grandmother: Jesse Ryan; Father-in-law: Steve Madden of Alum Creek, WV.

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, September 17, 2001 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Paul Meadows, Minister Ronnie Linville and Minister Gerald Watts officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Denver C. Cash

Denver C. Cash, 86, of Griffithsville, died Friday, September 14, 2001, at Boone Memorial Hospital, Madison after a long illness.

He was a retired electrician for C & O Railroad in Barboursville. He was a member of the Duval Lions Club and of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 71 in Griffithsville.

He was a WWII Navy veteran. He is survived by: Wife: Ruth Stowers Cash Daughter: Cazol Vandale of South Charleston, WV Son: Wayne Cash of Covington, KY 5 Grandchildren: Kelly Vandale, Tracy Arkell, James Vandale, Dani & Alex Cash; 2 Great Grandsons: Chase and Dylan Arkell.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Sunday, September 16, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Minister Murrell McKinney officiating. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery, Garretts Bend with graveside rites conducted by Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71.
