Morton “Pal” A. Griffith, Jr., 75, of Scott Depot, formerly of Sod, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dana Griffith.

He leaves behind one daughter, Jo Ellen of Boback, PA; one grandson, Tyson Paugh of Barboursville; several nieces and nephews and many good friends.

There will be no services. Cremation is planned and burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod as requested by Morton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Morton’s memory are requested to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, W V 25311. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

Daniel P. Estep, 71 of Yawkey, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia.

He was retired from Chemical Leamon Truck Lines, a member of Teamsters Local 175, a member of the Griffithsville Church of Christ and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his: Wife: Jean; 1 Son: Donnie Estep of Teays Valley; 1 Step-Son: David Brumfield of Yawkey; 1 Step-Daughter: Libby Summers of Beckley; 1 Brother: Omer Estep of Alum Creek; 6 Grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Minister Tom Racer officiating. There will not be a visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of the arrangements.

Harry H. Humphrey, 79, of Yawkey, born November 11, 1923, departed this life May 1, 2003 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dunbar.

He retired from Pennzoil Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local #175 and a member of Amy Baptist Church, Yawkey.

He is survived by: Wife: Norma Kingrey Humphrey; Nieces and nephews and friends.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, of Alum Creek with Rev. Don Toler and Pastor Forrest Curry officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Elaine Turley Akers, 76, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord at her home on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 with her husband and family by her side after a long battle with cancer.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by daughter, Linda Sue Buckley and brother, Bill Turley. She was a member of Ruthdale Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by: Husband: Adair 2 Sons and daughter-in-law: R. Dale and Ellen Akers of South Charleston Marvin A. Akers of South Charleston; 1 Daughter and son-in-law: Christy G. and Micky McClure of South Charleston; 8 Sisters: Mary Lee Scott of Texas Evelyn Chapman of Huntington Judy Hamill of South Charleston; Sue McCormick of Virginia; Joan Hayes and Valena Trowbridge both of Sumerco; Helen Hernandez of St. Albans; Renee Bayne of Dunbar; 2 Brothers: Glen Turley of Parkersburg Charlie Turley of Virginia; 7 Grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 2, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor David Cooper officiating. Entombment will be held in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Frankie “Buddie” E. Holestine, 69 of Scott Depot, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Holzer Clinic, Gallipolis, Ohio after a long illness.
He was ground maintenance worker at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, attended Touching Jesus Ministries, Alum Creek, and was a Korean war Army veteran.

He is survived by his: Wife: Charlotte; 4 Sons: Frankie Jr. of Alum Creek; David Wayne of Alum Creek; Ralph of Scott Depot; Bronson of Alum Creek; 2 Daughters: Pamela Pratt of Alum Creek; Tamela Means of Alum Creek; 1 Brother: Donald Bronson Holestine of OH; 2 Sisters: Elenore Jean Midkiff of NC; Nancy Sue Turley of PA; Half Sister: Zela Danewood of NC; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren.

Services will beheld at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment will be held in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston, with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768. Lyle E. Hudson, 82, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his home after a long illness.

He was retired from Appalachian Power Company. Lyle was a born again Christian on January 24,1950 and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a WWII Navy veteran.

He is survived by his: Wife: Mildred; 5 Daughters: Sue DeBord, Sharen Davis, Judy Klug, Christina Stover and Mary Jo Lewis Meadows; 1 Son: John Lyle Hudson; 1 Brother: Frank Hudson of St Albans; 1 Sister: Helen Goff Carrier of South Charleston; 7 Grandchildren: Jeff and Lisa Davis, Christopher and David Klug, Sarah and Joey Stover, Andrew Lewis.

Charles W. Lee, 61, of Garretts Bend died Friday, April 11, 2003 at home after a short illness.

He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. He was a member of the Lincoln County Coon Hunter’s Association.

He is survived by: Wife: Nancy; Son and Daughter-in-law: Charles Lee, Jr. and Lisa of Tango; Daughter: Roxanna Lee of Sod; Granddaughter: Olivia Lee of Tango.

Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Richard Ruby officiating. Burial will be in Garrett Cemetery, Garretts Bend. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home

Anna Geraldine Pauley “Granny” McGhee , 79, of South Charleston was born December 13, 1923 and died Wednesday, April 6, 2003 at home surrounded by her family.

She was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County. She attended churches throughout the Kanawha Valley and last attended Mt. Zion Church. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always there for everyone. She was retired from Kanawha County School Boazd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Helen Pauley; husband, John H. McGhee; sister, Helen Louise Dunlap; and brother, Denver Pauley.

She is survived by: 3 Daughters and sons-in-law: Sybil and Ernie Dunning of South Charleston Rose Mary Eplin of South Charleston Beverly and Ron DeBord of South Charleston; 2 Sons and daughters-in-law: John and Kama McGhee of Charleston Glenn and Denise McGhee of Oxford, NC; 4 Sisters and brothers-in-law: Brookie and Charlie Boilon Lura Mann Ethel Pauley Dorothy and Theodore Lively; Grandchildren: Mischelle and Sam Richardson, Stacy and Donald Thaxton, Gina and Darian Fields, Ronnie and Tracie DeBord, Kristy McGhee, Jonathan McGhee, Matthew and Teresa McGhee, Nicholle McGhee Great Grandchildren: Matthew Richardson,Brigitl2ichazdson, Devin Englebright, Haley Thaxton and Austin McGhee. Mabel C. “Sissie” Thacker, 68 of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 5, 2003 in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and a born again Christian. A member of Ely Community Church at McCorkle. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brookie Lynn Moore and son, Billy Joe Moore.
