Jacky P. Dunlap, 73, of Sod, WV, went to his Heavenly Home, Saturday, December 31, 2022, to await his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ercel and Millie Smith Dunlap, sister, Wilma Teel and sister and brother-in-law, Ganava & Ken Hughes.

Jacky was a Christian and a life-long member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner and proud member of UMWA last working at Wells Complex Plant in Wharton, WV, and was a 1967 Duval High School graduate.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 53 years, Charlene, and his children of whom he was very proud, daughter, Paula (Brett) Matthews and son, Jason (Lorie) Dunlap. He is also survived by his sister, Trilby (Tim) Baumgartner, and a host of other family and friends including his church family whom he adored. Last but not least his feline friends Doc and Festus and granddogs, Elli Mae and Sadie.

Service will be 2:00pm Saturday, January 7, 2023, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Isaiah Hatfield officiating. Family and friends will gather two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

A special thank you to all of his caregivers including, and especially Peggy and Jerry Marker, Donna and Shellee Hughes, Lonnie and Dottie Dunlap, as well as his hospice nurse, Melanie, for their wonderful care.

Jacky’s favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jacky’s future is now fulfilled.

Shirley Ann Waldron, 86, of South Charleston, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at home.

Shirley spent many years as a teacher’s aide before retiring from the Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Virgil & Mary Lucy Miller; siblings, Junior, Gene, Johnny, Betty, Gail, & Ilene; and Daniel Teel, who was like a grandson.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Roger D. Waldron; sons, Curtis (Marsha) & Michael (Iris); grandchildren, Sarah (Paul), Lindsey (David), & Grant (Erica); great grandchildren, Brock, Reese, William, Harvey, Leo, Maddie, Charlie, & Andy; sisters, Kathy & Opal; and many nieces and nephews.

I’m sure mom is happy to be reunited in Heaven with her parents, siblings, and that special someone she thought a lot of, Daniel.

Rest easy mom, your pain and suffering are over.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Graveside service will be 12:00 p.m., January 4, 2023, at Forks of Coal Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating.

Many thanks to the Hospice ladies, Kayla, Jennifer, & Tara, who took special care of mom until her death. They were very kind.

David Lee Simmons Jr – dedicated husband, father, and friend – went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday December 27, 2022.

Dave was born to David and the late Vickie Simmons in Charleston, WV on May 2,1975. A graduate of Nitro High School, he went on to have a career as a Paramedic with multiple agencies, before becoming a nurse in May, 2021. Dave loved to help people, which was evident in the way he lived. Dave loved his family. You would find him at a ball field, basketball court, and cheering competitions, among other things, supporting his 5 kids. If you couldn’t find him at one of those places, you could find him at his church, Maranatha. He attended there as a kid, and a few years ago, returned as a husband and father, bringing his family to church. He loved being a part of his church family and served with his wife as a volunteer in the kids’ ministry.

Left to cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy are his wife of 14 years, Katie, his kids, Madison, Kaitlyn, Tanner, Cooper and Parker. Also left to cherish his memory is his dad, David, brothers, Cory Simmons, Steven Simmons, sisters, Amy (Josh) Bucklen, Sara (Michele) Simmons, along with other family members Kim Burgess, Chet (Tammy) Burgess, and T.C. (Brittany) Burgess and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Maranatha, located at 2910 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV. Family will be receiving visitors, beginning at 11am and the funeral service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Darren Powell officiating. Graveside service will be immediately following at Memory Gardens at Low Gap.

Carl Elmo Patterson, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 20, joining his Savior in Heaven and reuniting with his wife Nancy of 63 years. Nancy was laid to rest in May, 2020.

Carl, also known as Pat, was a lifelong resident of St. Albans, having graduated from St. Albans High School in 1952. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and an usher for several years. Carl was called upon many times to help with repairs around the church and use his truck for transporting materials, to which he gladly obliged. He truly enjoyed his time with his friends there, as well as morning coffee at Tim Horton’s, McDonald’s, and activities at Hansford Senior Center.

Carl is survived by his children Linda Layne (Brad) in Kennesaw, Georgia; Richard (Marie) in Randleman, NC; and Randall in St. Albans; five grandchildren – William Ireland III, Matthew Ireland, Connor Patterson, Elliott Patterson, Maleigh Patterson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ada Patterson, his brother Garland Patterson, and twin sisters Geraldine Bryan and Madeline Hensley.

Carl served in the Air Force, and after returning to St. Albans to raise his family, worked in various jobs throughout his career. He retired from FMC at age 59 and spent his free time playing golf, mowing grass for his neighbors, traveling with Nancy, and serving at the church. Carl will be remembered for his sense of humor, sharp wit and the high energy level he maintained until the loss of his beloved wife, Nancy.

Visitation will be held at Highlawn Baptist Church on Thursday, December 29 at 11 a.m., funeral service at noon officiated by Pastor Jason Robbins, and burial in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Patricia ”Peggy” Madden, 89 of Alum Creek, WV went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. She was born on May 21, 1933 (one of eleven children) to Roy and Donnie (Adkins) Linville in Cameo, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Bobby Madden and son, Mark Madden.

Peggy graduated from Scott High School in 1950 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ. She was generous, kind, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Such wonderful gatherings were shared in her home by all especially during Christmastime! Before her declining health, she was an avid reader and enjoyed many walks with her sisters and best friend, Helen Williams.

She also enjoyed trips to Colorado with family, spending time in the cabins of Babcock State Park, watching CNN, the Golden Girls and Gunsmoke. Most of all, she enjoyed swinging on her back porch that her beloved husband had built for her, taking in the mountains of West Virginia which she always called home. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.

Peggy is survived by her children, Steve (Debbie) Madden, Alum Creek, Sandy (Marshall) Pauley, Alum Creek, daughter-in-law Penny Madden of Orlando, FL, Jesse (Tammy) Madden, Alum Creek, Connie (Alan) Tron, Colorado Springs, CO, Joyce (Rob) Davis, Charleston, WV, 16 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren and one on the way.

Beverley Ann Hobbs, 67 of Ashford WV, born September 5, 1955, in South Charleston, WV to William and Deloris Turley, passed to her Heavenly home on Saturday December 17, 2022, after a brave, year-long battle with cancer.

Beverley owned and operated The Amish Country Store in Marmet, WV, opening with Michael Hobbs in 1994. Beverley worked throughout her battle and never gave up. She had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. She was a firecracker and loved her family fiercely. Bev’s passing is not only a loss for her family, but the community. She helped many people during her 28 years in business. She attended Duval High School.

Preceding her in death, father, Bill Turley and nephew, Bobby Fields.

She is survived by her mother, Jean Turley of Sod, the love of her life, Michael Hobbs of Ashford, daughter, GariAnn (Gerald) Boggs of Fraziers Bottom and son, Bradley Linville (Cambria Mitchell) of Peytona. Five grandchildren, Miranda (Timothy) Jarrell Scott Depot, Joshua Boggs of Texas, Adam, Bryce and Lilly Boggs of Fraziers Bottom. One great-grandchild, Isabella Jarrell of Scott Depot. Two sisters, Debbie (CW) Sigman of South Charleston and Paula (Alan) Jones of Griffithsville. Three nieces, Allyson Foster of Lexington, KY., and Jennifer Sigman and Diantha Smith of St. Albans.

We love her with our whole hearts and will forever miss her. But we thank God for His promise that we will be reunited in heaven.

Timothy “TJ” Banks Jr, 52 years old of Ridgeview, West Virginia heard his welcome home thou good and faithful servant on December 14, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was a true and dedicated son of God who lived life for Jesus to the fullest and wanted everyone else to as well. He had been sick and in and out of the hospitals most of this year (with multiple surgeries) but his faith never wavered and he always believed he would be healed of his illness. His main goal was to be home and he told doctors that every time they asked him how he was. He may not have got to stay at his earthly home but is now in his new home that he will never have to leave again. He did get his miracle; our ways are not God’s ways but much higher. He ran the race and kept the faith and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. To know TJ or JJ (lol) was to love him. He was so humble and his first love with JESUS! He was not only a Christian, but he was a dancer, preacher, runner, singer, worshipper, testifier and filled with the Holy Ghost and fire!! Serving Jesus was his greatest desire and a huge asset, he wanted everyone to have what he had. He loved going to church and praising Jesus. Although the devil took his health, he could not take Jesus out of his heart and his soul. He was a dedicated husband and with the love of his life Christi for 26 years. He was a great friend, uncle, brother, son, son-in-law, brother-in-law and even to the role on as dad when he needed to. He will be loved and missed by so many. He left a legacy behind for sure of how it was to serve Jesus and make Heaven your home.

TJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Phoeba and Carson Armstrong, and Hillard Dunlap, paternal grandparents: Ishmael/Ruth Banks.

Left to cherish in his Memory are Christi Dawn Banks, his wife whom he adored. His face lit up when she walked in the room during his illness, and he would say “there she is”. Together they built a ministry and sang and preached for Jesus. They were known as “The anointed”. His Mother and Father, Timothy and Barbara Banks, Siblings, Stephanie/Eddie Barker, Greg/Kim Banks, Jamie/Ashley Banks, his children, Gracy and Blake Barker, whom he took in as his own, Mother-in-law, Sharon Hager, whom he helped care for, Father-in-law, Andrew Hager, brothers and sister in laws, Jackie/Tammy and family, Tammy/Wayne Smith, Tony Hager and Darin Hager, nieces and nephews, Andrea/Shannon Roberts, Andy/Satin Hager, Courtney /James Smith, Heather Racer, Haleigh Cooper, Lillibeth, Isaac, Phoebe, Anthony Hager, great nieces and nephews, Brennan, Gavin, Gabby, Levi Claire, special friend and sister in Christ, Joyce Miller, who supported him through his whole sickness and was his best friend and prayer partner, and a whole host of other friends co-workers and family.

Services will be at Curry Funeral Home on Sunday, December 18,2022 at 2 pm. Visitation will be two hours prior to service. Gary Toler will be officiating the service with David and Frankie Sperry assisting. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery, Mud River.

Erma Welch, 76, of South Charleston, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at home after a short illness.

She was a homemaker.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Welch; and parents, Denver & Inis Dragoo McCallister.

She is survived by many loving family members and friends.

Graveside service will be 2:00, Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens with Minister Kim Matthews officiating.

Brookie Lynn Moore, 34, of Charleston, formerly of Alum Creek, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Brookie attended Duval High school.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Moore and grandmother, Mabel Sissy Thacker.

Brookie is survived by her children, Kandace, Emily, Nicole, Tristan, Victoria, Adrian, & Andre; sisters, Nikkolette Dunlap, Jamie Moore, & Holly Meade; 10 nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Private burial will be held at Anderson Cemetery, Sumerco.

Trevor David Atkins, 18, of Sumerco, passed away December 4, 2022, after an automobile accident.

He was a 2021 graduate of Lincoln County High School, worked at Capital City Auto Auction and was excited about his new job with Superior Gutters.

Trevor was preceded in death by his grandfather, Russell Wiblen, Sr.; great grandfather, James Fletcher Adkins; great grandparents, Ethel & D. Stowers and Chester & Nellis Ross.

He is survived by his mother & stepfather, Marie & Rusty Wiblen; father, Leslie Atkins; brothers & sisters, Heather (Mike) Miller, Brandon Wiblen, Dustin Wiblen, Dakota (Sule) Wiblen, Emily (Terry) Holstein, Zack Curry, Caleb (Marissa) Curry, E’Lie Wiblen, Ex’Avior Wiblen, & Christopher Wiblen; grandparents, Brenda & Paul Harless and Carolyn & Rick Rickard; grandfathers, Danny Ross and Leslie Atkins; great grandmother, Betty Adkins.
