Brookie Shultz, 83, of South Charleston, Passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House.

She is survived by one nephew: Curtis Joe Shultz, and three great nieces: Charlene, Amanda, and Jennifer.

Services will be 2:00pm Sunday, June 6, at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Shultz Family Cemetery, South Charleston.  Friends will gather one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.

Lily F. Kidd, 85, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 20, 2010,

after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie, son, Billy Ray Kidd and several brothers and sisters.  She was a member of the Alum Creek Independent Baptist Church.

She is survived by:

4 Daughters: Linda McCallister of Yawkey, WV

Brenda Waycaster of Kingsport, TN

Mary Brickey of Grove Port, OH

Jean Clawson of South Charleston, WV

1 Son: Jerry Lee Kidd of Charleston, WV

 

1 Brother: Billy Thompson of Ravenswood, WV

9 Grandchildren

2 Great-Grandchildren

 

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home Chapel, Alum Creek, on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 1:00pm with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be held in Priestley-Pate Cemetery, Sumerco.  Friends may call Saturday, May 22nd, at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Bobby K. Arbogast

Bobby K.  Arbogast 71 of So Charleston went to be with the Lord Friday May 14, 2010 after a short couageous battle with Liver cancer at home with his wife, daughters, sister and brothers.

He was the son of the late Roscoe and Edna Arbogast and was also preceded by an infant daughter, Rhonda Kaye, the twin sister of Cheryl.

Bob was a concert pianist and musical genius, the owner of Arbogast Piano in So Charleston, was a member of the So Charleston Lions Club and American Legion Post 94 where he served as commander.  He also served in the U. S. Army 101rst  Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles,  the So Charleston Museum Board and the Visitor and Convention Bureau.

He is survived by his wife Debby

Daughters: Cheryl(Julia Tyson)  Arbogast of Nitro.  Robin (Chris) Carney of Parkersburg and Kendra (Brett Slaterbeck) Arbogast   of Kansas

1 grandson: Dalton Carney

Siblings: Ivan (Mattie) Arbogast of Dayton,  Roscoe Jr Arbogast of Waldo, FL

Peggy (Jim) Kidd of Alum Creek and Paul (Donna) Arbogast of So Charleston

Services will be 1:00 PM on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd, Alum Creek with Pastor David Trauffer officiating.  Burial will be in the Arbogast Cemetery/Garden of Memories at Beechie Ridge, Clay County,.  Friends will gather 2 hours prior to the service

Io Asbury Cantley

Io Asbury  Cantley, of Lexington, North Carolina,  passed away Saturday May 8, 2010 after a long illness.

She had 91 years of life that she filled with music, her family, her church and playing the piano. While raising their  family in Brounland, WV, she served as the pianist at Brier Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years along with her husband, Grant, who directed the choir.

 

Grant and Io were married 61 years before his death in 1998. She was born to Frank and Carrie Mitchell Asbury at Olcott, WV, and was the last living sibling. Those who preceded her in death were; brothers, Cyril (Attry Conley) Asbury and Colonie (Virginia Gillispie) Asbury and infant bother Horton; sisters; Josephine (Winifred) Pauley, Elva (Ralph) Duncan, Goldie (Dell) Griffith, Hester (Clyde) Holstein, Elsie (Rev. Ruel) Miller, Mildred (Frank) Serafine, and Mary Asbury.

She is survived by her children; Dawn Rose of St. Petersburg, Florida, Walter and Jackie Egnor Cantley of Oxford, North Carolina, Avonelle and Charles Neff of Staley, North Carolina, Michael and Pam Taylor Cantley of Big Canoe, Georgia, and Regina and Hector Chrest of Lexington, North Carolina. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and a host of friends.

The family will greet friends at the Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, West Virginia on Monday from 6 to 8 pm.

A celebration of Io’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Jack Lawrence officiating. She will be interred in the family plot at Graceland Memorial Park at Ruthlawn, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Brier Creek Baptist Church P.O. 459, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Anna Virginia Greene Hugart, 79, 100608 Navarre Road SW, Navarre, OH, died on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, OH.

She was a homemaker.  She was born June 7, 1930, Tango, WV.

Survivors:

Husband:    Archie P. Hugart

Services will be on Saturday at 2:00pm,  May 8, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Teays Hill Cemetery, St. Albans, WV.

Nancy Banks

She was employed at CAMC in Medical Records and a graduate of Poca High School.

She is survived by her husband, Randy

Service will be 5:00 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.  Family and Friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions toward funeral expenses would be appreciated.

Linda  L. Curry, 69, of Hamlin went home to the  Lord with her family by her side Friday, April 30, 2010 at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

After raising her family she was employed at United Health Care and PEIA.  She was a member of Hamlin Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter and father, Ernest Burns.

She is survived by her husband, Fred,  of 51 years.

Family and friends may gather Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday with visitation 1 hour prior at Handley Funeral Home, New Hamlin, with Minister Brian Barrett officiating.  Burial will be in Harvey’s Creek Cemetery, Hamlin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Linda Curry to Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, Attn: Lynn Jarrell,  1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington, WV 25701.

Jewel Helen Pauley Miller

Jewel Helen Pauley Miller, 79, of Alkol went to be with the Lord and our Daddy Wednesday April 28, 2010 with her family by her side. A devout Christian, she was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Alkol.

She was born November 29, 1930 in Morrisvale and was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County.

Her greatest joys were her church and her family.
She worked hard to provide for her family in jobs she loved as a Mother, Owner of DJ Super Dollar of Salt Rock, and a retired mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.

Proceeded in death by her loving husband Dorsey Miller of Alkol, WV; parents Clayton and Myrtle Burns Pauley; brothers Hank Pauley, Carl Pauley, Gene Pauley, Jimmy Pauley; and sisters Grace Mitchell, Wanda Holstein, Betty Thompson.

Survived by sister Barbara “Boots” Antill of Madison, WV and an extended family.

Vincent Huffman

Vincent Huffman, 84, of Alum Creek, died on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Glasgow. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWard and Maude Huffman, and brothers Charles and Clark Huffman.

He was a truck driver.

He is survived by his fiance, Mary Owen, children Vincent Allen (Ester) Huffman, Gary Wayne (Noma) Huffman, Carol Sue (Paul) Smith, Yvonne (David) Milam, Brian Huffman and Michelle Huffman, special step-daughter Crissy Owen. Brother Frank Huffman and sister Beatrice “Bee” Childress. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11:30 am Saturday, May 1, 2010 at French Cemetery Charleston with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will be no visitation.
