Hassell M. Pauley, 71, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 after along battle with cancer. He was a retired construction worker from Laborers Loca11353. He was a member &trustee of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by: Wife: Doris Jean Pauley of Sod, WV; Son: Gene Pauley & wife, Robin of St. Albans, WV; Daughter: Melinda Sue Graley and husband, Dwight of Emmons, WV; 3 Brothers: Junior, Freddie & David Pauley all of Sod, WV; 6 Sisters: Deloris Justice & Phyllis Pauley both of Sod, WV; Betty Anderson & Tink Rigney both of Dunbar, WV; Teresa Hurley of Griffithsville, WV; Sharon Elkins of Richmond, VA; 6 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; 2 Step-Great Grandchildren.

Service will be Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 11:00 am at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Roe Smith and Chad Pauley officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco. Shirley A. Shaffer, 67, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. (Red) Shaffer and 2 brothers -William “Corky” and Ricky Copeland.

She is survived by: 2 Sons: Daniel L. and wife, Pamela Shaffer of South Charleston, WV Timothy and wife, Karen Shaffer of Mooresville, NC, formerly of St. Albans, WV; 2 Sisters: Gloria Mitchell of Whiting Indiana Judy Mitchell of Cedar Lake, Indiana; Brother: Butch Copeland of Atlanta, GA; 3 Grandchildren 1 Step-Granddaughter Numerous nieces & nephews.

Service will be Friday, June 21, 2002 at 2:00 pm at Curry Funeral Chapel with Pastor Charles Larue officiating. Burial in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call Thursday, June 20, 2002 from 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.

Beverly N. “Sparkle” Fewell Turley, 53, of South Charleston died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents: D. M. & Isabelle Fewell; step-mother: Ruby Moms Fewell and brother, Mike Fewell.

She is survived by her: Husband: Carless; Daughter: Christie Thompson and husband, Jamie of Sod, WV; Special Grandson: Tyler Thompson; Brother: Richazd “Bud” Fewell and wife, Sandy of Hawaii; Step-Brother: Jim Moms and wife, Donnie of Nitro, WV; Special Friend: Dennie Brunetti of South Charleston, WV.

Patricia Ann Barker, 57, of South Charleston passed away Thursday, June 13, 2002 at CAMC General Division after a long illness.

She is a member of God’s Tabernacle, Spring Hill and a former member of Valley Drive Church of God Mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bobby G. Barker; her parents, Homer & Mildred Chafin; and sister, Edith Nunn.

She is survived by: Son: Richazd Barker of South Charleston, WV; Daughter: Rita Marinelli of Charleston, WV; 2 Brothers: Jack Chafin of Alum Creek, W V Clifford “Skip” Chafin of North Carolina; Sister: Gloria Duncan of South Charleston, WV; 6 Grandchildren: Amanda, Ryan, Owen, Tony, Joshua & Peter.

Mabel P. McCormick, 87 of South Charleston, died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

She was a life long resident of Kanawha and Lincoln County, a graduate and benefactor of Alderson Broaddus College, a school teacher in Lincoln and Kanawha County for 37 years and a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgel McCormick.

She is survived by her special niece, Phyllis A. Danforth of Springfield, MO; four half brothers, Arthur H. Dunlap of Crab Orchard, W V; Ohley R. Dunlap of South Charleston, W V; Carl R. Dunlap of St. Albans, WV; Jackie L. Dunlap of St. Albans, WV; four half sisters, Betty Holland of Charleston, WV; Jonnie Green of Bridgeport, WV; Margaret Weaver of Hilton Head Is1and,SC; Mary Lou Oliver of Hilton Head Island, SC; 2step-brothers, Wilbur Carlos Dunlap of Mesa, AZ; and Lowell Dunlap of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Bruce Blankenship and Pastor David Cyphers officiating. James “Russell” Curry, 73, of Yawkey passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at CAMC General Division as a result of injuries sustained in a December 17, 2001 car accident.

He was preceded in death by his parents James E. and Mary Craddock Cuny, brother Kenneth Curry and son Jodi Curry.

He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod, the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge. He was a retired welder and a 52 year member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Loca1625. He was a Korean War Veteran.

He is survived by: Wife: Wilma Jean Breedlove Curry; Daughters: Demettria Curry of Dunbar, W V Jennifer Dunlap of Charleston, WV; Daughter-in-law: Pat Curry of Charleston, WV; Grandchildren: Rusty Weddington & wife, Missy of Yawkey, W V Devon &Colin Dunlap, and Nolan Curry all of Charleston, WV; Great Grandchildren• Emilee, Ashley &Caleb all of Yawkey, WV; Aunt: Ina McClure of Cleveland, Ohio; Special Daughter: Leah Saul Sowards of Yawkey, WV.

L. Darrell Duncan

L. Darrell Duncan, 83 of South Charleston, formerly of Olcott, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He resided at the home of his nephew and his wife, Eddie and Vicki Belcher. He was a former employee of Dickinson Fuel Co., with 14 years service and a retired employee of the Kanawha County Board of Education with 27 years of service. Darrell was a Christian, a graduate of Washington District High School Class of 1937, and a lifelong resident of Kanawha County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Tressa Griffith Duncan, his sister, Betty Duncan Belcher, and nephew Mark Steven Duncan.

He is survived by his: 3 Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Nile Edsil and Echo Duncan of Charleston, WV Charles Dexter and Helen Duncan of South Charleston, WV Bobby Norris and Eulah Faye Duncan of South Charleston, WV; 1 Brother-in-law: Edward Belcher of South Charleston, WV; Several nieces and nephews: Diana Morris, Drema Watts, C.D. Duncan, Jill Novak, Teresa Singer, Cheryl Belcher, Carlye Belcher, Sherry Lewis, Sonja Davison, Shelia McCormick, Denise Hannan & Kim Rodeheaver; Aunt: Dora Griffith Trampus, St. Albans, WV; several Great nieces and nephew.

Daisy Mae Watts

Daisy Mae Watts, 90, of Sod, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Riverside Nursing Home, St. Albans after a long illness. She was a homemaker and member of Council Gap Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Watts &her sister, Madeline Dunlap.

She is survived by: 1 Son: William “Delano” Watts, of Sod, WV; 1 Daughter: Elaine Stephens of Houston, TX; 3 Sisters: Dessie Graley and Opal Elkins of Sod, WV Birdie Priestley of Clover, South Carolina; 5 Grandchildren 5 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Bob Kessinger officiating. Burial will be in Watts Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
