Jason Scott Hughes, 42, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 12, 2025, at WVU-Thomas Memorial Hospital. 

Jason is survived by his parents, John and Lynn Hughes, brother, Shawn, and sisters, Haley, Brianna and Trinity. 

Per his request he will be cremated and there will be no services.

David Lee Brogan

David Lee Brogan, 77, of Alum Creek, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 23, 1948, David lived a life defined by service, love of the outdoors, and deep devotion to his family. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam War veteran in the United States Army, where he was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment—known as the Wolfhounds. His courage and dedication during his military service remained a source of pride throughout his life.

After returning home, David found joy in the simple things that brought him peace— hunting, fishing, and the quiet moments spent on his front porch. He had a passion for mowing his yard and keeping his home just the way he liked it.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Nellie Brogan, and his brother, Stephen Brogan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Belva Brogan, and his children: David Brogan (Crystal) of Alum Creek, Kim Brogan of Buffalo, and Randy Brogan (Jess) of Alum Creek. He was a proud grandfather to Katelyn Harper (Landin) of Griffithsville, Ethan Brogan (Kelsie) of Griffithsville, Megan Brogan (Tristan) of Griffithsville, Paige Tucker (Jared) of Buffalo, Brooke Martin (Luke) of Eleanor, Abeigh Meadows of Eleanor, Jayce Brogan of Buffalo, Wesley Brogan of Alum Creek, Nate Brogan of Hamlin, and Brieanna Brogan of Alum Creek.

His legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren: Dylan, Carson, Lincoln, Ella, Ryker, Annastyn, Rhett, and Haidyn. He is also survived by his brothers, Ed Brogan (Becky) of Hurricane, and Ronnie Brogan (Judy) of Alum Creek.
David will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for nature, and the deep pride he took in his family. Though his chair on the porch now sits empty, his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In accordance with David’s wishes, the family will honor his life with a private graveside service.

John Henry Armstrong

John Henry Armstrong, 72, of Ripley passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

John retired from Ryder Trucking with 34 years of service and was 2014 Driver of the Year. He loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Delia Holley Armstrong; son, John C. Armstrong; and brother, Cecil Armstrong.

John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diana Wine Armstrong; daughter, Karli Armstrong; grandchildren, Callie Skeen, Clayton Skeen, Carson Kidd and Kobe Kidd; sister, Arlenea (Jon) Price; brother, Jimmy Adkins.

Service will be 2:00pm, Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan McGrady officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Amalee Davanis Griffith

Amalee Davanis Griffith, 81, of South Charleston passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at The Villages at Greystone in Beaver, WV.

Amy was a graduate of Washington District High School.  She was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved cooking, working in the garden and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis D. Griffith, Jr.; parents, Dennis and Carolyn Blake Pauley; sisters, Mary Alice Hess and Ruth Duval.

She is survived by her sons, Jason (Debbie) Griffith and Brian (Sara Mathes) Griffith; grandchildren, Logan (Brian) Green, Jacob Griffith, Lauren Griffith, Gabriel Griffith, and Laiken Griffith; sisters, Monajean Griest, Betty Ann Pauley, Eulah Pauley; brothers, Lowell Pauley and Elmer Pauley.

Service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Rama “Sharon” Pauley Mann of Stanley, North Carolina, at the age of 84, was called home to Heaven by the Lord on September 29, 2025. Sharon was raised in Charleston, West Virginia.

Sharon was a mother to 6 children, one son and five daughters. She retired from Home Depot in 2013. She was a beloved, long time member of Westport Baptist Church. She loved crocheting, gardening, baking, and making our clothes from patterns when we were little. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her greatest passion was caring for and loving her two fur babies, Gemma and Max.

Sharon is preceded in death by her first-born son, Rocky Rowe; her parents Ernest and Ethel Pauley; two brothers and three sisters; her grandson Brandon Patty; her son in law Charlie Ford; and her stepson Robert Mann Jr.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Robert Mann Sr of North Carolina; her wonderful sister Pat Sisson of West Virginia; her daughters Robin Ford of North Carolina, Rena Mcvey-Torres (John) of Florida, Renessa Ramos (Edward) of Florida, Kandy Patty (Bill) of North Carolina, Sonya Lewis (Ned) of South Carolina and her stepson James Mann of Florida. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00pm. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Owenby, Lead Pastor of Westport Baptist Church.

Sharon will be laid to rest at Pauley Cemetery in South Charleston, West Virginia on Tuesday October 7, 2025, at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s name may be made to Amy’s Closet. Donations can be made by check to LCCADV PO. Box 476 Lincolnton, NC. 28093. This is a domestic violence organization to help women get back on their feet after experiencing domestic violence. She loved to shop at their store to support this awesome cause.

Charles Edward Burford

Charles Edward Burford, 87, of Sod, WV, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.  He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tonya Buck.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marietta, daughters, Debbie Kitchen, and Teresa (Ronnie) McClure, sister, Mary Ellen Maddox and grandchildren, Justin (Alisha) Kitchen, Casey (Josh) Abalahin, Matthew (Britney) McClure, and Ashley McClure, and seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was an elevator installer and retired from Dover Elevator Company, and a member of Nitro Nazarene Church.

Service will be 1:00pm Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Curry Funeral Home with Pastors James Cash and Bron Walker officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Virgil Freeman Wade

Virgil Freeman Wade, 80, of Yawkey went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at home.

Freeman was a member of Joes Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired welder from C.J. Hughes with 52 1/2 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean Wade; parents, Emmitt and Erma Alford Wade; brothers, Ricky, Bobby, and Bill Wade.

Freeman is survived by his daughters, Mitzi (Jerry) Chadwick and Jessica (Frank) Jarrell; grandchildren, Jedidiah Davis, Jasmine Davis, Jewelia Jarrell, Malachi Jarrell, Alixzandria Jarrell, and Joy Jarrell; brothers, Dale (Frances) Wade and Joe (Jeannie) Wade; sister, Janice Fore.

Service will be 2:00pm, Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Andy Gillenwater officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Charles Wayne “Boo” Turley

Charles Wayne “Boo” Turley, 67, of Charleston, WV, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie & Ravenell Turley.

He is survived by his brothers, Kelly and Johnny Turley.

There will not be a service.

Riley Frazier Dunlap

Riley Frazier Dunlap, 24, of Winfield, WV, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at home.  He was preceded in death by his father, Alvie Dunlap, grandparents, Billy & Betty Dunlap, and Ed & Sue Boso, and an aunt, Belinda Smith.

Riley attended Duval Middle School, McKinley Jr. High and St. Albans High School.  He was a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God.  He worked at Taco-Bell and Subway at Milton.  He loved talking and being with people.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Dunlap, aunts, Jenny Woodall, and Alice (Barry) Meadows, and uncles, Chuck (Sharon) Boso, Fred (Nancy) Dunlap and Billy (Susan) Dunlap and many cousins.  Best friends, Dylan, Walker, Dustin and A.J. and special friends, Sharon and Teresa and his two dogs, Darcie and Dale-Lyn.  A special love to my peachie from Aunt Allie.

Service will be 2:00pm Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Mt. Tabor Church of God, St. Albans, with Pastor Butch Brogan officiating and Eulogy by Melissa Boso.  Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to assist in offsetting the funeral costs.

Virginia Grace Pauley

Virginia Grace Pauley, 90, of Sod, WV, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at home.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruffner & Margie Holstein, husband, Rudy, son, Rudy Dale, Jr., and sister, Patty Spaulding.

Virginia and her husband, Rudy, owned and operated BRIT TIRE in Charleston for many years.  She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Yvonne) Pauley, of Sod, and granddaughter, Sarah (Jamie) Thompson and their children, Tyler and Luke, of Alum Creek, and daughter-in-law, Beverly Pauley, Alum Creek, WV.

A graveside service will be 1:00pm Friday, September 19, 2025, with Minister Louis Watts officiating at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.
