O. J. “Jay” Lawson, 76, of Sod died Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Bryant’s Personal Care Home, Hamlin after a long illness.
He was retired from Fruehauf Co. as a service manager, a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, an Army Air Force veteran of WWII, a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 and was a life long resident of Lincoln County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lawson.
He is survived by his: 2 Daughters: Suewanee Pauley of Sod, WV; Sandi Lawson of Sod, WV; 2 Brothers: Scotty Lawson ofBranchland, WV; Charles Lawson of Las Vegas, NV; 2 Sisters: Mae McComas of Hamlin, W V; Jennie Lawson of Rehoboth Beach, DE; 2 Grandchildren: Jamie Carson and Joel Pauley 1 Great Grandson: Cuyler Carson .

Graveside services will be held at Lively Cemetery, Sod, on Saturday, March 11, 2000 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Clarence Hutton officiating. Friends may call on Friday, March 10, 2000 from 7 to 9 PM at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. The Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will be serving as honor guard on Thursday evening.

Doris Aileene Miller, 60 of Edina, Minnesota, died Sunday, March 5, 2000 at the home of her brother-in-law, Bill Thaxton, after a long illness.

She was a waitress at the VFW Post #1296 in Bloomington, Minnesota and was a member of the ladies auxiliary post # 4768 at Alum Creek.

She is survived by her: 2 Daughters: Lisa Miller of Burnsville, MN; LuAnn Olson of Edina, MN; 2 Step-Sons: Daniel Miller of Moundsview, MN; Douglas Miller of Manchester, CT; 2 Brothers: Clarence “Junior” Miller of South Charleston, WV; Edgar “Gene” Miller of South Charleston, WV; 4 Sisters: Kathy Reed of South Charleston, WV; Shirley Waldron of South Charleston, WV; Gail Parsons of South Charleston, WV; Opal Payne of Hurricane, W V; 1 Granddaughter: Cyrea Carpenter of Edina, MN; 7 Step-Grandchildren 4 Step-Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Crooked Creek Church of God on Wednesday, March 8, 2000 at 1:00 PM with David Waldron officiating. Burial will be held in Miller Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 7, 2000 from 6 to 8 PM at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. She was a homemaker.

He was an electronic technician for Bell South with 30 years of service and was an U. S. Air Force veteran during the Vietnam era.

Traci Dawn Walls, 29 of Sod, died Monday, February 28, 2000 at CAMC General Division Emergency Room as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident on Rt. 214 Alum Creek, West Virginia.

She was a graduate of Duval High School, attended West Virginia State College and was a Census Director for Lincoln County. She attended Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.

She is survived by her: Parents: Ronnie and Sue Walls of Sod, WV Brother: Michael of Wilton Mannors, FL.

He was a retired maintenance worker from the city of Maderira Beach, Florida and was a Navy veteran of the Korean war.

Matthew Lee “Matt” Presley, 17, of Sissonville died on Sunday, February 20, 2000 at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital after a short illness.

He attended the 10’s grade at Sissonville High School where he participated in the Special Olympics, was active in the Kanawha Two Mile Gospel Tabernacle at Edens Fork and was a life long resident of Kanawha County.

James H. “Sonny” Linville, 63 of Sod, formerly of Oceana, died Saturday, February 12, 2000 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

He was a retired compressor station supervisor for CNG Transmission Corp. in Kopperston, West Virginia with 38 years service. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod where he served as a trustee and was a former member and trustee at Oceana United Methodist Church. He also served in the West Virginia Air National Guard for 8 years.
