Thelma Ruth Griffith Gillenwater, 88, of Griffithsville,  born February 8, 1925  the daughter of Cornis and Belva Griffith, passed away March 11, 2013 after a long illness.

She was the proprietor of the former Sugar Shack in Griffithsville and  a longtime  member of McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her home, family, flowers and reading the Bible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Edward B. Gillenwater, Sr., brother, Avis Griffith and sister, Wanda Brogan and grandson, Edward Gillenwater III.

She is survived by three children,  Edward B. (Judy) Gillenwater of Griffithsville, Vicki (Jack) Richards of Scott Depot,  and Timmy (Ramona) Gillenwater of Griffithsville;  brothers Frankie Griffith and Paul Griffith both of Sod and Butch Griffith of Alum Creek; 9 Grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 16^th,  at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road,  Alum Creek, with Pastors Roe Smith and Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle.   Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Alma Elizabeth “Libby” Huffman, 88, of Alum Creek,  went home to the Lord Friday, March 8, 2013 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in So Charleston after a long illness.

She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod and currently attended Hilltop Baptist Church. Libby was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Boyd Huffman and her great granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Swann.

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Jack) Dugan of Alum Creek and Carolyn (Ted) Ray of Charleston; sons, Boyd R. “Buzzy” (Carolyn) Huffman,  Jr., of South Charleston and Delbert O. (Paulette) Huffman of Charleston. Nine grandchildren,  seventeen great grandchildren and one great- great granddaughter; and wonderful friend and neighbor Essie Parsons.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 12^th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Butch Leadman and Jim Lennox officiating.  Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Cemetery.  Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Richard (Paul) McCune, 73, of South Charleston passed away peacefully at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a 12-year courageous battle with multiple myeloma   cancer.  He was also known as R.P. to a lot of his closest friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, William (Willy) McCune, brother, D.C. Hall and precious grandson Cagun Cole Vandall.

He was founder and owner of McCune Coffee Co.,  for 33 years.  He met a lot of good people and made a lot of friends along the way while  selling coffee.  He was very appreciative of his customers.  He enjoyed going fishing at his camp in Pendleton County with his best buddy Bennie Wade.  He also taught his grandchildren Cruz and Cagun to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors.  He liked sitting on the porch watching the river flow at the camp in Clay County with his wife Linda, daughters, grandson, friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Linda, daughters Diana Vandall, Patti McCune (Kim Sykes), grandson Cruz Vandall, mother, LouAnna McCune, sisters, Sophia Colunga and Ida Mae McCormick, brothers John (Debbie) McCune and Jack (Carolyn) McCune and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be 3:00pm Sunday, March 10,  at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor John Anderson officiating.  Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston.

Family and friends will gather from 1:00 to 3:00pm prior to the service.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Justin Cohen, Linda and staff for guiding Paul through his 12 year journey.

Peggy and her late husband, Fred, served with Child Evangelism Fellowship in Kanawha, Boone and Clay counties for 19 years.  Peggy was a member of the Bible Center School staff where she served in several roles.  She also taught pre-school at Elk Valley Christian School and Faith Missionary Baptist School.  She most recently retired from Kohl’s department store.  She was a member of Bible Center Church where she worked with children’s ministries for many years.

Peggy is survived by her children, Craig Gee and wife, Carlotta, of Gauley Bridge; Steven Gee and wife, Jean, of Suriname; Marylynn Saloiye and husband, John, of South Charleston; Kathleen Jansohn and husband, Fred, of Atlanta, GA; Carolyn McMillen and husband, Michael, of South Charleston; Jon Gee and wife, Deborah of Sacramento, CA; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, brother, James Catling, of Florida and sister, Nancy Klischies of New Jersey.

A remembrance celebration will be held at 3:30pm, Saturday March 9th, at Bible Center Church Southridge Campus.  In lieu of flowers, we request that contributions be made online to the Peggy Gee Memorial Fund at www.peggygeememorial.com  This money will be distributed to the missionaries that Peggy supported monthly.

Mary Lou (Dunlap) Hudson 88 of Ruth left this world Thursday February 28^th 2013 to join her family and friends in our next life with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Born October 23, 1924.  She was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and Frank Dewitt Dunlap.

Mary Lou was retired from the West Virginia State Library Commission and a member of Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene where she loved to teach Sunday School class and operated the Church Library for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Raymond Hudson, daughter Regina Gomer sister Elma Lee Hudson and Brother Edgar “Corkey” Dunlap.

Surviving daughters Neva Horne-husband Cecil of South Charleston, Myrna Gatrost-husband Gary of Winston-Salem, NC.  Son-in-law Jim Gomer of Nashville TN. Grand children Susan Burgess, John Horne, Jamie Gomer, Jennifer Gomer, Bobby Hudson and Beth Gatrost. Great Grand children Hannah Burgess, Brandon Gomer, and John Alan Horne.

Curry Funeral Home of Alum Creek will be servicing the Hudson Family, with a memorial service to be held 2:00 pm Sunday, March 3^rd at Curry  Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, with Rev. Franklin Goff officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service.

Mary’s final resting place will be following the memorial at Fox Hill Cemetery on Spring Hill Mountain along side of her Husband, Mother, Grand Parents and Great Grand Parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Valley Nursing Home for the wonderful and loving care given to Mary Lou during the last 5 years.

William “Squirmy” Jackson Spaulding, 72, of Tornado, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

He was born September 10, 1940 at Cabin Creek, WV, the son of the late John Q. and Ruby Williams Spaulding; and also was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; stepson, Kevin Miller; sister, Peggy, brother, J. R. Spaulding; and half sister, Tammy Berry.

He was a member of Pipefitters Local 625 working as a welder for 40+ years and serving six years as their business agent. He was also former owner of Alum Creek Exxon.

He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Wilson of South Charleston, WV; Myrtle Reid and Chesaline Bauer both of Flint, MI; half-sisters, Paula Marshall and Lou Selbe; friend and neighbor, Chris Morris; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 1^st, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Butch Leadman and Frank Chapman officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Mary Perry Clark passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 21, 2013; just four days after her 84^th birthday.    Mary’s husband, of 63 years, Albert Ross Clark, preceded her in death on December 24, 2012.

Mary was born February 17, 1929 in Beckley, WV.  She
was the second child of William Richard Perry and Wilda Short Perry.  Mary graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School in 1947.  Mary was employed as a switchboard operator at the Greenbrier Hotel after graduation.   In 1949, she married Albert Ross Clark, Jr.  They moved to the Kanawha Valley in 1952.

Mary was active in Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans, WV, since 1959.  She served on the hostess committee and was a
dedicated member of the Mary I. Laughlin Circle.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents.  Her father died in 1940 and her mother died in 1981. Mary was also preceded in death by three brothers, William R. Perry, John Perry, and Frank Perry.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Reba Denzie (John) and Ellen Clark (Richard Williams). Surviving grandchildren are: Vanessa Adkins (Frank), Meghan Quillen, Audrey Ray (Greg), Robert Denzie and Olivia Denzie.  Whitney Smith and Richard Adkins are surviving great grandchildren.  Thomas Riner (Mary) and Fredrick Perry are surviving brothers.

Mary will be remembered for her loyalty and loving devotion to her family. As a young child
of eleven, Mary had to help raise her younger brothers due to her father’s death at the age of forty. Mary always kept her sense of humor during trying times.  She believed that we should count our Blessings even in times of trouble and sorrow. Mary had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Valley Center in South Charleston for the loving home they have given Mary.  Their kindness and compassionate care will always be remembered.

Funeral service will be at Cunningham Memorial Park in the upper mausoleum on Monday,
February 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Mark Stauffer officiating.

Carl E. Mansfield, 60 of Sod, formerly of Glen Jean passed away Monday February 18, 2013 at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness.

Carl is survived by his wife Karen, step-daughters Stacy and Christina Bias, brothers, David Mansfield and William Mansfield, sisters, Rosezella McBride, Mary Mansfield, Hazel Wade and Charlotte Massey.

A special thank you to Hubbard Hospice House north side  nurses and volunteers for their excellent care.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Stephanie Waldron Sansom, 34, of Sod, won her long battle against cancer on Saturday, February 16^th 2013.  On this day, God called her home to receive her new body and live with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven for eternity.

Stephanie was a graduate of University of Charleston, Class of 2000.  She was a RN-BSN/Case Coordinator at CAMC for 14 years.  She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her father, Douglas Waldron; maternal grandmother, Betty Rabel and paternal grandparents, Dennis and Doris Waldron.

She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 13 years, Jerry; two precious babies, Jessica (8) and Jeremy (6), foreign exchange daughter, Alex Romanenko; mother, Dorothy Waldron; step-grandfather, Hubert Rabel; Stephanie’s in-laws which she considered her own, father-in-law, Basil Sansom and wife, Frances; brother and sister-in-law, David and Missy Sansom; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Eric Briles; sister-in-law, Julie Barnett and husband, Keith Oldaker; niece, Ashley Briles, newphews, Matthew and Josh Barnett, EJ  Briles, Andrew and Christopher Sansom, and very special friend Michelin Mosteller all from Sod, WV.  Stephanie has many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to nephew, Josh, who has lived with Jerry and Stephanie since she was diagnozed last year; he was just like her son.   We would like to send a very special thank you to all the friends that helped take care of the kids anytime it was needed and all the people that have helped the family in so many ways, including Dr. Nagarajan and his staff.

Sidney Arthur Neeley, 85, of St. Albans passed away on Friday February 15, 2013 at Hospice West Thomas Hospital  in South Charleston, WV.

He was a mechanic for 35 years; and an Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years,  Phyllis; three sons, Joey (Libby) Neeley of Hurricane; Darrell Neeley of St. Albans and Terry (Kathy) Neeley of Hurricane; daughter, Penny Hill of St. Albans; four sisters, Verna Grove and Ivy Kennaway both of FL, Doris Smith of Marietta, GA and Deloris Hudson of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, Barrett, Casey, twins Korey and Kayla, Melissa, Brandon and Matthew.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Monday, February 18, 2013 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey,  with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.  .  Visitation for family and close friends will be one hour prior to the service.
