Connie Faye Daughenbaugh, 60, of Sod went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 18, 2013 at home.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie, of 28 years; children, Jamie Alford, Brian (Brandi) Alford and Jeremy (Jessica) Alford; mother, Nina Cypert; six brothers, Eugene, Richard, Randy, Roy, Russell and David Crist, three sisters, Nancy Harvey, Wanda Pittman and Rhonda Crist, eleven grandchildren,  one great granddaughter and best friend Judy Carr.

A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 27, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Phillip Crist officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Tonya OsborneTonya Marie Osborne, 41, of Tornado, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was a loving wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her.

Tonya is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Tiffany; sons, Robert and Kelly.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Monday, July 22nd at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Dan McCormick officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions towards the funeral service.

Jana Justice

She was an active member in the Foundation Church of God and The Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter H.; a business woman and vice president of J & L Clearing, Inc. and Sunset Construction LLC; and a graduate of the Duval High School Class of 1963. She was the most precious and loving wife, homemaker, mother, momaw (nanny), daughter, sister and friend, but most of all she was a wonderful woman of God.

Jana Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Olive Johnson; daughter, Deborah Justice; grandson, Crae Justice; granddaughter-in-law, Jody Lewis; brother, Thomas “Buddy” (Loretta) Johnson and sister, Betty Johnson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Londis; children, Donna (David) Dunlap, Londis “Allen” (Shawn) Justice and Ricky (Tonya) Justice; brothers, Forestgale, Danny, Stanley and Henry “David” Johnson; sisters, Lillian Smith, Loretta Turley, Ellen and Hellen Johnson and Marie Young; grandchildren, Dustin (Jeanie) Dunlap, Brandon (Kacey) Justice, Deona (Adam) Gillispie, NaTasha (Joshua) Wade, Chelsea (Travis) Gibson, Taylor Justice and Joshua Justice; great grandchildren, Craelyn Dunlap, Carlee and Tanner Gillispie, Colton Justice and Kayden Gibson; and a whole host of family and friends.

Service will be 2:00pm Thursday, July 18th at Curry Funeral Home. 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Jim Oxendine, Rev. Robert Smith and Pastor Chris Colagrosso officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Family Cemetery, Sulphur Springs, WV. Family and friends will gather from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Jerry CrawfordJerry Lee Crawford, 59, of Alum Creek went home to the Lord Sunday July 14, 2013 at Betsy Broh House, Huntington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Robert and Lelah Crawford, and brother Danny D. Crawford.

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Linda Holstein, Kathy Ross and Annette L.Holstein, twin brother, Larry (Nancy) Kidd, aunt, Wanda May Mannon and several nieces, nephews and family members.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek. Burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; mother, Ocie Shivelier; sons David, Ronnie, Paul and Mark.

She was a Christian and attended church at Black Diamond Arbors.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Jerry) Queen of Greenview; son, Donnie (Dinah) Holstein of Sod, eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 9th at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. John Harden officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle.
Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wintz GibsonWintz (Pinky) Gibson, 68, of Alum Creek, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013.
He was born February 23, 1945, and was preceded in death by his parents, Stanton and Nancy Gibson, brothers Basel, William and sister, Cora.
He was co-owner of D-M Stables at Kanawha State Forest.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Cookie), children, Charlotte (Ernie) Henson, Wintz, Jr., (Becky) and Terry (Joe) Walon, brothers, Waitman ‘Sugie’ (Gathel), Floyd (Deloria), Ervin ‘Sonny’, Clayton ‘Vance” (Linda), JR Wayne, Roy (Dianna) and sisters, Flora Brown and Rose Ann (Chris) Washington. Also, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by a host of family and friends. At Wintz’s request, there will be no service.
Curry Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Larry A. Young

Larry YoungLarry A. Young, 67, of Sod went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family Saturday, June 29, 2013 at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Young and brother David.

Larry was a retired meat cutter with 39 years at Bob’s Fas Chek at Alum Creek, attended Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church, he loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his 5 grandsons. He was a 1964 graduate of Duval High School.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marie; stepsons, Jamie (Christie) Thompson of Alum Creek and Ronnie Jr. (Capri) Thompson of Alkol; grandsons, Tyler, Luke, Isaiah, Braxton and Cooper Thompson; brother, Bob (Shirley) Young and sisters, Pansy Holstein and Vada Young all of Alum Creek; nephews and nieces, Robbie and Wayne Holstein, Debbie Quintrell and Lisa Pauley.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 2nd at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.   Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Arthur Edward ClayArthur Edward “Ed” Clay, 70, of Alum Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 27, 2013, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Ed was a loving husband and father, who is dearly loved by his family.  He was born December 21, 1942 in Carter County, KY to the late Arthur and Margaret Coburn Clay.  He graduated Scott High School in 1962 and joined the US Army upon graduation.

He proudly served in Korea as part of the U.S. Army 70th Transportation Battalion from 1963-64.  He later served in the Vietnam War from 1966 through 1969 in the 155th Transportation Company, receiving the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sharpshooter Expert, and Vietnam Service Medals.   He was a retired electrician, working many years in the Kanawha Valley chemical industry. He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

Survivors include his wife, Gerri Anne Clay, married 47 years and his children, Rick Clay (Dee) of Hurricane, Debbie Bird (Jim) of Alum Creek, and Mark Clay of Alum Creek.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Bird (Marshall University), Courtney Bird (Marshall University), Alex Clay (West Virginia University) and Allison Clay (Hurricane High School).  He is also survived by brothers, Charles Roger Clay and Claude Clay (both of Alum Creek), and sister, Claudette McFadden (Rock, WV).

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Sunday, June 30th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.   The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday.

The family would like to thank the staff of Kanawha Hospice (Sallie) for compassionate and professional care.  Due to his love of animals and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kanawha Humane Society in Ed’s name.

Francis Marie Harless

Francis Marie Harless, 77, of Sod passed away Thursday June 27, 2013 at home after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Harless and son Terry Alan Harless.

She is survived by her children; Johnnie (Cindy) Harless, Brenda (Bobby) Bladwin, Deanna (Richard) Sammons, Shelia (Rodney) Richardson, and David Harless, sister Melba Stewart, brother David Bradley, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Per her request she donated her body to the Human Gift Registry.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice Care for there kindness and help.

Danner Jessie Green, 90, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston.
He was born in Tango on Sept. 1, 1922. He was a loving family man, an avid gardener, a proud World War II veteran, a retired employee of FMC and anyone who had every met him knew he was one of a kind.
In addition to his parents, Clara Harmon and James Garfield Green, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, America Jane Meikle; seven sisters, Mary Goode, Daisy Edwards, Alma Lou Harvey, Eloise Brumfield, Virginia Hughurt, Maxine Chandler, Sylvia Jean Green; seven brothers, Clyde, Russell, Edward, Sherill, Guy, Lowell and Ulle. He was also very close to his wife’s family and was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Chalcie Meikle, whom he loved as a mother; brothers-in-law Parker, Dale, George and sister-in-law, Marie Ernest (Listen).
He is survived by daughters, Diana Green and Jean Adkins (Terry) of Alum Creek; four grandchildren, Angela Adkins (Terra) of Belle, Hope Adkins Fout (Eric), Terry Adkins II (Amy) and Jerry all of Alum Creek. Seven great grandchildren, Matthew Orcutt (Brittini) of Beckley, Hunter McClure, Austin and Aubry Adkins and Natalie Fout of Alum Creek, Emmy Carte Adkins of South Charleston and Gabriel Bias of Griffithsville; one great great grandson, Brycen Orcutt of Beckley;
brothers-in-law, Robert Meikle (Lucy), Tom Meikle (Audry); sisters-in-law Opal Kitchen, Phyllis DeBord (Cal), Anna Mae, Lavanna Green and many special nieces and nephews.
Danner joined the Army during WWII and served in the Phillippines. He was a proud veteran who loved his country. He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.
He retired from FMC in 1982 with 38 years service to help care for his sick wife. Danner was an amazing father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He helped anyone he could and enjoyed doing so. He was a loving and giving man, who was devoted to his family. He loved to sit on his front porch with his friends, neighbors and his beloved tobacco. His group of lifelong friends were often call the front porch gang (Ray Pauley, Charles Sigmon, Olive Banks and Opal Kitchen).
Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Saturday, June 29th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park with military Graveside Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
