Jimmy Dale Moore

Jimmy Dale Moore, 63, of Alum Creek, born November 12, 1952, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Golden Living – Riverside, St. Albans, WV.

He is survived by daughters: Kisha (Ben) Gravely, Nicollette Dunlap, Brookie Moore, Jami Moore and Holly (Kevin) Meade;  brothers: Rex “Boo” Moore and Johnny Moore;   sisters: Karen, Thelma & Wilma;  12 grandchildren and some very dear friends.  He was a kind-hearted loving man that will be sorely missed and will never be forgotten.

He worked as a manager at Alcoholic Beverage Retail Sales.

There will be no service.

Frankie L. GriffithLonceford Franklin (Frankie) Griffith

On February 13, 2016 Lonceford Franklin (Frankie) Griffith, 81, of McCorkle, WV experienced firsthand the splendor and beauty of Heaven upon his arrival there.  There is no doubt in our minds that he entered shouting “Glory!” as he did many times when he caught a distant glimpse of Heaven while here on earth.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cornes Griffith, and mother, Belva Griffith; brothers, Avis, Paul and Butch; sisters, Thelma and Wanda;  son, Brian Franklin Griffith; and son-in-law, Pat Dunlap.

Frankie was a pillar of the community in which he lived all of his life.  He was always ready, willing and gladly doing whatever he could to help anyone in need.  He also lived that same generosity with his time and abilities for his beloved church, McCorkle Freewill Baptist, where he was a member and one of its founders. He was much loved, and will be greatly missed by both his church family, as well as, his  surviving family.

He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 62 years, Norma Jean; his daughters, Pam Dunlap and Cindy (Chuck) Bays; his son, Randy (Debra) Griffith; as well as 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; and a host of family and friends.  All of whom are looking forward to strolling over Heaven with him and hope to continue his legacy of living from a servant’s heart to the glory of God.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church  with Pastor Ron Scott officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church, 175 McCorkle Road, Sod, WV  25564.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church family for their efforts to make it possible for Frankie’s service to be held in the new church building.

Genevieve Redman

Genevieve RedmanGenevieve Redman, 81, Sod, went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 8, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She was a member of the Vision of Harvest Baptist Church.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Howard and son, Sam Redman.

She is survived by sons, Howard J. (Cheryl) Redman and Joe (Cindy) Redman both of Sumerco; daughters, Ann (Danny) Justice of Sod, Kathy (Gary) Kersey) of Sissonville and Grace (Dallas) Morgan of Sod; sister, Vada Hughes of Milton; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Billy Silva officiating.  Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at  Hospice for their support and care.

God sent his best angel for our mommy Friday, February 5, 2016.  Shirley Young, 76,  of Alum Creek,  was born number 10 out of fourteen children to the late Allen and Daina Brookman Ball on September 1, 1939 in Bozoo, WV.

Shirley was a Christian and a member of the Eden Baptist Church in Griffithsville, WV.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Paul, Tish, Jack, Bus, Bill, Lee, Dave, Doug, Mary, Betty and Monkie.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob, whom she married on November 12, 1965.  Together they had two daughters, Debbie (Michael) Quintrell of Yawkey and Lisa (Joel) Pauley of Alum Creek.   She is also survived by sisters, Ethel Jennings of Houston, TX and Louise Ballard of Lindside, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Rexal Cooper and Assistant Pastor Jeff Black officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park.   The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice and all of the wonderful people who have supported the family in any way, especially to Suewanee Pauley for her love and support that means more to our hearts than words can express.

Garry Lee Wade

Wade, Garry LeeGarry Lee Wade, 72, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 5, 2016 at Eastbrook Center in Charleston.

He attended Duval High School and started his Iron Workers Apprenticeship in 1963.  Garry was drafted into the U. S. Army and served from 1964 – 1966.  In 1966 he became a member of the Iron Workers Local 301.  He retired in 1998 with 35 years service.

Garry received the WV Outstanding Citizen Award give by the Secretary of State A. James Manchin.

He was a charter member of the Duval Lions Club; Past President of the Lincoln Raiders Football League; Master Mason with the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge AF&AM  No. 71; and was also a charter member of both the Duval Ambulance and Fire Department.

Garry was the only member to hold every position in the Fire Department from Fireman thru the ranks of Chief, and finishing as a member of the Board of Directors.  He really enjoyed participating in community parades and local firework displays hosted by the fire department and also the annual Firemen’s Rodeo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Estel Wade; and son, Robby Wade.

Garry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sherry; son, Rusty (Janet) Wade; daughter, Ginger (Gabe) Holstein; sister, Anna (Steve) Thaxton; grandchildren, Sydney & Ellee Wade, Gabbie & Griffin Holstein and Elijah McCormick; and a host of other family and friends.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Gene Cooper (Gary’s uncle) officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.  Family will receive friends from 4 – 6 pm Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Richard Lee Holstine

Richard Lee Holstine, 82, of Emmons Road, Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 4, 2016.

He was retired from Union Carbide and was a member of the Emmons Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine; nieces, Kathy Garretson, Jacqueline Ross and Rachel Stringer; nephews, Robert, David, Jackie and Jamie Stringer, Michael and Timmy Graley, Virgil Gillispie, Roy and Teddy Walls, Jerry Perry and Harold Eddie Roler; and several great nieces, nephews and lots of friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, at the Emmons Church of God with Pastor Michael Graley officiating.  Burial will follow at Morris Cemetery at Grippe.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elizabeth A. Childress, 72, of Alum Creek went home Thursday February 4, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Charlie; and step daughter, Shelby Blankenship.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ann Rusnak; son, Howard Darby; stepdaughters, Patsy Dingess, Opal Woodzell and Betty McCallister; sisters, Betty Gibson, Linda Bias, and Jean Cantley; 5 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jesse Perdue and Pastor Chris Sowards officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

David L. Butch GriffithDavid L. “Butch” Griffith

Mr. David L. “Butch” Griffith, 70, of Alum Creek, passed away suddenly after a short illness at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.

Butch was born April 4, 1945 in Madison, West Virginia, to the late Cornes and Belva Dunlap Griffith.  He was the youngest of six siblings.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Avis and Paul Griffith of McCorkle, WV and his sisters, Thelma Gillenwater of Griffithsville, WV and Wanda Brogan from Virginia.

He was a Christian and a member of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek.  Butch was a proud graduate of Duval High School, Griffithsville, WV.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He retired from Pratt Mining Company and later finished his working life as Assistant DOH Road Supervisor for Lincoln County.  He loved to hunt and fish and really enjoyed camping throughout his life with his family and friends.  He was a big fan of the WVU Mountaineers and watched every football and basketball game on television, always searching for his family members that were in attendance.  Butch never knew a stranger and took great pride in helping others.  He liked to hang out with all his gang at Hess Garage in Alum Creek, swapping big tales about fish, football and politics.  He mostly enjoyed  times with his wife, kids and grandkids.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 50 years, Gail (Chandler) Griffith of Alum Creek and their children and grandchildren; son, Michael (Kathy) Griffith and grandsons, Jack and Frederick Powers all of Scott Depot, WV; son, Darren (Jessica) Griffith and grandchildren, Madison and AJ Griffith of Sod; daughter, Lisa (Denzil) Dunlap and grandchildren, Austin Gillenwater at WVU, Michaela Gillenwater and Brad Lilly all of Charleston.  Also surviving is his daughter, Stephanie (Kevin) Dunlap and grandson, Kevin Lewis Dunlap of Alum Creek.   Butch is also survived by his brother, Frankie (Norma Jean) Griffith of McCorkle and leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who were some of his favorite people.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Yousef for the care and friendship shown since 1994.  Butch will truly be missed by his family and friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given in the memory of Butch Griffith to the Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Post Office Box 65, Alum Creek, West Virginia 25003.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, at the Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at  Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle, WV.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 4,  at the church.

 

James C. Wood

James WoodJames C. Wood, 70, of Sod, made his trip home Wednesday, January 27, 2016.

He was the owner of J. M. Wood Drywall Co., at Sod.   James attended Riverview Ressurection Center in St. Albans.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jenny May Burns.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy; sons, Eddie( Roberta), Bobby (Jackie), Jackie (Donna), Donald (Marie), Johnny (Pancha) and Jimmy Wood; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Kenny Pauley officiating.  A private burial will be held at a later date.   The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wayne Edward Parsons

Wayne Edward ParsonsWayne Edward Parsons, 65, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 24, 2016 at CAMC Memorial in Charleston.

He worked as a machinist and was a disabled veteran serving in the U. S. Marine Corps during Vietnam.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Dola and Bertha Parsons; brothers, Dale and Dayton Parsons; and sister, Vivian Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Claudia; beloved sons, Wayne (Merissa) Parsons of Alum Creek; John (Jennifer) Parsons of Chapmanville and Scott (Aleshia) Parsons of Charleston; 7 grandchildren, Alexus, Aaron, Ashton, Zach, Tristan, Bailey and Sidney; brothers, Jewel, Roger and Jimmy Parsons; sisters, Bonnie Alford, Sharon Dunlap, Janice James and Nadine Hemmings; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Curry Funeral Home, 2096 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29th, at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar with military graveside rites.
