Joshua Brent McCormick, 44, of Yawkey WV, fought a good fight and entered into the presence of his Lord on Monday, May 30, 2022.

Brent was born on November 30, 1977, to Douglas and Peggy (Morris) McCormick. He was a Christian who attended Yawkey Missionary Baptist Church and a faithful follower of Christ. Brent was a testimony to all who knew him, and a fighter to live and enjoy life with his family.

Brent graduated from Lebanon High school in 1997 and became a successful machine operator for Quebacor. Brent enjoyed farming with his brother Chad, cooking and was very successful with woodworking.

He is survived by his mother, Peggy, who cared for him every step of the way, and stepfather Kenneth Stevens; brothers Shane McCormick (Yawkey, WV), Chad (Rachel) McCormick; nephew Jamie (Haley) McCormick and great-nephew Ezra McCormick, as well as many close friends and family in both Ohio and West Virginia.

The family is assured that he will be spending eternity with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Yawkey Missionary Baptist Church, friends, family and those who have prayed for Brent throughout his long battle to simply live life.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Yawkey Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Darrell Searls and Bill Burrows officiating. Graveside service will follow at McClure-McCormick Family Cemetery, 4313 Midway Road, Yawkey, WV 25573. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday, June 3, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Mary Jane Dunlap, 74, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the home of her daughter.

Mary was a homemaker and attended Ely Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley & Stella Young Clark; husband, Rex Dunlap; brothers, Howard, Elmer, Wilmer, & Bobby; sisters, Eldean, Melba, Bonnie & Faye.

Mary is survived by daughter, Madora (Brent) Gibson; sisters, Bessie Fowler & Shirley (Kessel) Justice.

Mary’s wishes were to be cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.

The family gives a special thank you to all the friends and neighbors for their care and kindness shown to mom and like Mary always said God Bless you all.

Paul Edward Smith, 65, of South Charleston passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, at Valley Center, South Charleston.

He attended Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek. He was a retired school bus driver. He loved to hunt, fish, and the outdoors.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Smith and Audrey Rowley Caruthers; brother, Ronald Caruthers; and sister, Mary Caruthers.

He is survived by 3 sons, Christopher Smith, Travis Smith, and Donald Smith; grandson, Atticus Chapman; brothers, David and Henry Caruthers; sister, Sue Holsinger and Sharon Midkiff; several nieces, nephews, and friends.

It was Paul’s wish to be cremated. A private service will be scheduled at a later date, and he will be laid to rest at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.

Rosalea Ann Harless, 76, of Nellis, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side after suffering multiple strokes.

She was born on January 8, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Eleanor (Wolfe) Graley. She was a 1963 graduate of Sherman High School. She attended Morning Star House of Prayer, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Rose never met a stranger, and she was known to many of all ages as “Mamaw Rose” and was always offering you something to eat and inviting everyone to church. She was truly and “Angel on Earth”. Her favorite saying was “I’m a winner either way”. She loved camping, deer hunting, trout fishing, blackberry picking, chopping wood, gardening so she could share their harvest with family and friends, but most of all spending time with her family.

Rose was preceded in death by her only grandson, Ritchie Harless; brothers, Bobby, Jerry, Ernie, and Ezra Graley; and sister, Alberta Caruthers.

She is survived by her loving husband of just 13 days shy of 59 years, Kermit Harless; sons, Rick (Rosetta) Harless of Costa and Steven (Michelle) Harless of Nellis; daughter, Sandra (Hershel) Evans of Nellis; granddaughters, Jessica (Jon) Rach of Louisa, KY, Brittany (Travis) Holstein of Ashford, Chelsea Harless of South Charleston, and Makayla Harless of Nellis; great grandchildren, Austin and Evan Rach, Luke Holstein, Kenzie and Rikki Harless; brothers, Teddy, Terry, and Mark Graley; sisters, Carolyn Treadway, Kay Kinder, and Teresa Perdue.

A special thanks to the staff at Boone Memorial Hospital, Cabell Huntington Hospital and Kanawha Hospice for their awesome care of our loved one.

Margie Helen Flowers, 68, of Alum Creek, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at CAMC-Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Lucille Tyler and brothers, Tex and Eddie Tyler.

She was a former employee of Ramada Inn, South Charleston.

Margie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gary, daughter, Kim (Greg) Boyd, sons, Steven Flowers and Shawn (Sabrina) Flowers, sister, Cora Wells and Linda Tyler, and brother, Richard (Wilma) Tyler. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brianna Boyd, Denver James (D.J.) Flowers, Shawn David Flowers, Morgan Flowers, Kylie Flowers, and Aubree Flowers.

A tribute to Margie’s life will be held at the Olcott Community church at a later date.

Gladys Maxine Thomas, 94, of Cutler, OH, formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 13, 2022, at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg.

Gladys was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Thomas; daughter, Brenda Thomas; parents, Dewy and Lilly Midkiff; siblings, Admiral Jr., Leo, and Katie Allen.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Muriel Thomas of Belpre, Ohio; grandson, Chad Soice of Charleston; granddaughters, Liz and Zack Kerns of Waterford, Ohio, Sarah Soice of Charleston; great grandchildren, Peyton McCutcheon, Bentley Sickles, and Lilly Belle Sickles all of Waterford, Ohio, Madison and Brian K. Lester II, Lacy Lovejoy, Jaxon Soice, and Jacey Soice all of Charleston.

Teresa Elizabeth Pauley, 89, of Elkview, formerly of Greenbrier County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Valley Center, South Charleston, WV. She is preceded in death by her husband, Odie C. Pauley, and her parents, James and Nell Donahoe, sisters, Frances, Magdelene, Amelia, Pauline and Florence, and brother, Jimmy.

She is survived by her daughter, Myra Pauley of Elkview, and son, Mark Pauley of Blue Creek, and sister, Ruth Ratcliff.

Teresa was a member of Three Mile Wesleyan Church and a former home health caregiver. She loved spending time in her flower garden.

Memorial Service will be 6:00pm Friday, May 13, 2022, at Three Mile Wesleyan Church, 817 Three Mile Road, Elkview, WV, with Pastor Chris Shinn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jessie Lenzo Egnor, 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2022, at home. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers, sisters and mother-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Sue Egnor of Yawkey and his two sons, William Dale Egnor and Timothy Scott Egnor both of Yawkey.

Jessie retired from the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal in 1971. He worked for RC Bottling Company and Lowes until he retired in 1995. He was an avid CB fan who also loved to hunt and fish.

Service will be 11:00am on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Dr., Dunbar, WV.

Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Kelley Ann Stowers Lacy, 40, of Sod, WV, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at home. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Kelly Stowers, grandparents, C.W. “Jake” and Maycel Stowers and Don & Minnie Phelix.

Kelley was a 1999 graduate of Duval High School, attended Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was currently employed by Sedgwick Claims Management Services.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Lacy, son, Austin Kelly White, step-children, Kenley Lacy and Jackson Lacy, mother, Barbara Stowers, brother, Mike (Kara) Phelix, uncle, David Stowers, aunt, Peggy Cutlip and niece, Callie Phelix.

Jack Scott Bell, 56, of Alum Creek passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Workman Bell and brother, Allen Bell.

Jack is survived by his father, Larry Bell; brothers, Chucky (Trish) Bell, Shannon Bell, John Kovacic; sister, Terri Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
