William “Bill” Cox

William “Bill” Cox, 81, of St. Albans died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston. He was born March 22, 1920 in Van Lear, Kentucky to William and Lena Cox.

Mr. Cox was a self employed contractor for 30 years. He retired from the Kanawha County School Board in 1971. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans where he has served on the Board of Trustees. Mr. Cox served in the 6~’ Armored Division during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 73 in St. Albans.

He is survived by his: Wife: Ruth; 3 Daughters: Cathy Dubois of Conyers, GA; Connie Campbell of St. Albans, WV; Aaron Adele Pendry of St. Albans, WV; 1 Brother: George Cox of Tucson, AZ; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild; Several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, June 29, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM at Highlawn Baptist Church. A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 AM at Highlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Joe Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, West Virginia 25177. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Arlie W. Gunnoe, 56 of Sod, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was a 1962 graduate of Duval High School, Griffithsville, a former heavy equipment operator for Southern Appalachian Coal and a member of McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his: Wife: Areta; 3 Daughters: Lynn Miller and Donna McCormick both ofMcCorkle, WV; Jennifer Cummings of Sod, WV; 1 Son:
Jeff Gunnoe of Parkersburg, WV; 4 Sisters: Nada Gunnoe of Huntington, WV; Bina McComas of Hamlin, WV; Nola Miller and Daisy Gunnoe both of Griffithsville, WV;
3 Brothers: Allen Gunnoe of Madison, WV; Orvie Gunnoe ofHedgesville, WV; Luke Gunnoe of Manasas, VA; 9 Grandchildren: Ami, Josh and Chris Miller, Shawn, Justin and Zach McCormick, Kelsi, Katelin and Tyler Cummings.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, March 15, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Roe Smith and Jiggs Dunlap officiating. Burial will be held at Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Dortha Faye Griffith Hasen, 66 of Alkol, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

She was a Christian and a life long resident of Alkol.

She is survived by her: Son and Daughter-in-Law: Mark and Rose Hasen of Alkol, WV; Mother: Lena Griffith of Alkol, VW; Grandson: Neil Hasen; Granddaughter: Krystle Hasen.

A graveside service for friends and family will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 12:00 PM. with Pastor Randall Kinder officiating. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

Clarence J. Turley

Clarence J. Turley, 88 of Alum Creek, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired welder from F.M.C. and a member of the Steel Workers Union. He was a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church where he was a trustee and a member of the choir.

He is survived by his: Wife: Nina; 1 Daughter: Margaret Turley Perkins of Scott Depot, WV; 2 Sons: Danny Turley of Charleston, WV; David Turley of Woodland Park, CO; 1 Sister: Ocie Hill of Dunbar, WV; 2 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Cyphers officiating. Burial will be held at the Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

He was a former accountant for the Civilian Air Force Department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by: Mother: June Hager of Charleston, WV; Father: Curtis Hager of Alkol, WV.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2001 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

He was a retired truck driver for Myers Transfer and Storage in Charleston.

He is survived by: Wife: Norma; 6 Sons: John and Ronnie Holbrook both of Campbells Creek, W V; Terry Holbrook of Hampton, GA; Charles Holbrook and Lige Holbrook, Jr. both of Alum Creek, WV; Bill Holbrook of South Charleston, W V; 2 Step-Daughters: Wanda Lee of Griffithsville, WV; Virginia Sprout of Newton Falls, OH; 2 Step-Sons: Earl Lee of Lima, OH; James Lee of Cleveland, OH; 5 Sisters: Marie Sigmon, Mabel Simmons, Olive Rose Haynes, Janet Cook &Annette Callison; 4 Brothers: Harold Holbrook, Charles Holbrook, Marion Holbrook & Floyd Holbrook 26 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
