Rhonda Leanne Brogan, 44, of Alum Creek, formerly of Danville passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at home.

She was a 1996 graduate of Scott high School and was an employee of Home Depot Store #4802, Charleston.

Rhonda’s life would seem too short to many, but to those who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that she stayed here.

Rhonda is survived by her husband of 6 years, David Lee Brogan, II; mother, Phyllis White of Danville; sons, Quentin Hager of Six Mile, Ethan (Kelsie) Brogan of Garretts Bend; daughters, Megan Brogan (Tristan Loftis) of Griffithsville, Katelyn (Landin) Harper of Griffithsville; 6 grandchildren, Leia Reese, Haidyn Loftis, Annastyn & Rhett Brogan, Dylan & Carson Harper; brothers, Warnie (Terri) White of Danville, Curt White of Logan;sister, Frances White Hall of Barrett, and several half brothers and sisters; lifelong best friend, Bobbie Milam, of Madison.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Butch Loftis officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Park. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lester Earl “Maverick” Stover, 81, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 13, 2023, at Hospice, CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Earl retired from Kanawha Manufacturing & Green’s Feed and Seed. He was also a longtime employee of the Nell Chilton family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; parents, Delmer & Edith Hudson Stover; and infant son, Chad Delmer Stover.

Earl is survived by sons, Todd Stover & Tim (Randi) Stover; granddaughters, Emily & Natalie; and sister, Karen (Fred) Akers.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Christopher Akers officiating. Burial will follow at French Cemetery, Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Don Austin Lewis

Don Austin Lewis, 96, of South Charleston, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Valley Center in South Charleston, after a short illness. His daughter was at his side.

He was born September 9, 1926, on South Hills, Charleston, WV, to Albert and Attie Lewis. He was the youngest of nine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, his wife, Maxine, and daughter-in-law, Nancy.

He is survived by sons, Don K. Lewis (Lisa) of Dunbar, Max R. Lewis (Mary) of St. Albans, and daughter, Joyce Ellen Lewis of South Charleston. He had four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and close friend, Rev. Frank Goff.

He served his country in the US Army during WWII at the Panama Canal. He was a member of VFW Post 4768, Alum Creek, WV. Following his military service, he trained in automotive paint and body work, and had a long career as a body shop manager at several car dealerships in the Charleston area.

He loved gardening, playing checkers, WVU football and basketball, and NASCAR. He was a Christian.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Goff officiating. Military graveside honors by the US Army will follow. Friends and family will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Don’s cremains will be buried at Adkins Cemetery, Charleston at a later date.

Our family is sad to announce the passing of Judith Ann Pauley of Lincoln County, West Virginia. She resided in Charleston, West Virginia and is formerly of Hesperia, California. Judy passed at the age of 75 on January 1, 2023, from chronic health complications.

Judy’s life was a blessing to all that knew her. Her memory is a treasure. She is so loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. She was a warm and loving soul to those who knew her. She was a tough mom, a wonderful friend, a great boss and the one people called when they needed help to get things done. She was such a fighter much like her parents throughout her life and on the last stretch of her journey.

She enjoyed going out to the Mojave Desert with her family and being outdoors. She loved her morning coffee and cigarette. She would sit for hours on her bed listening to the sound of her windchimes in her window and the birds outside on warm days. She loved to read. There were always books all over the house. Target was her thing on the weekends even if it was just to walk around. She loved her grandchildren to pieces.

Judy had three beautiful kids (Robin, Robert and Brian). They didn’t all share the same home but shared many of Judy’s special traits and fighting spirit that will accompany them throughout their days.

She is predeceased by parents; Troy and Anna Pauley. Sisters; Wanda Gail Collier and Sandra Martinez. Nieces; Tina Sheaves and Kimberly Saul.

Beulah G. Lewis

Beulah G. Lewis, 90, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Home.

Beulah retired from CAMC General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Oren “Junior” Welder & Roger Lewis; parents, Nathan & Dova Rowley; sisters, Geraldine, Jenny & Audra; brothers, Eugene, Pete, & Anderson; and companion, Fred Smith, Jr.

Beulah is survived by daughters, Debbie (Gail) McGilton, Melinda Lewis, & Patty (Jim) Smith; sisters, Corrine Hall & Ruth Ann Minner; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter. She is also survived by her longtime caregiver who was like a daughter to Beulah, Tasha Medley.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Kenneth Petry officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends and family will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special “thank you” to the staff at Meadowbrook for treating mom as family and taking such good care of her.

Jacky P. Dunlap

Jacky P. Dunlap, 73, of Sod, WV, went to his Heavenly Home, Saturday, December 31, 2022, to await his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ercel and Millie Smith Dunlap, sister, Wilma Teel and sister and brother-in-law, Ganava & Ken Hughes.

Jacky was a Christian and a life-long member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner and proud member of UMWA last working at Wells Complex Plant in Wharton, WV, and was a 1967 Duval High School graduate.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 53 years, Charlene, and his children of whom he was very proud, daughter, Paula (Brett) Matthews and son, Jason (Lorie) Dunlap. He is also survived by his sister, Trilby (Tim) Baumgartner, and a host of other family and friends including his church family whom he adored. Last but not least his feline friends Doc and Festus and granddogs, Elli Mae and Sadie.

Service will be 2:00pm Saturday, January 7, 2023, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Isaiah Hatfield officiating. Family and friends will gather two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

A special thank you to all of his caregivers including, and especially Peggy and Jerry Marker, Donna and Shellee Hughes, Lonnie and Dottie Dunlap, as well as his hospice nurse, Melanie, for their wonderful care.

Jacky’s favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jacky’s future is now fulfilled.

Shirley Ann Waldron

Shirley Ann Waldron, 86, of South Charleston, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at home.

Shirley spent many years as a teacher’s aide before retiring from the Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Virgil & Mary Lucy Miller; siblings, Junior, Gene, Johnny, Betty, Gail, & Ilene; and Daniel Teel, who was like a grandson.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Roger D. Waldron; sons, Curtis (Marsha) & Michael (Iris); grandchildren, Sarah (Paul), Lindsey (David), & Grant (Erica); great grandchildren, Brock, Reese, William, Harvey, Leo, Maddie, Charlie, & Andy; sisters, Kathy & Opal; and many nieces and nephews.

I’m sure mom is happy to be reunited in Heaven with her parents, siblings, and that special someone she thought a lot of, Daniel.

Rest easy mom, your pain and suffering are over.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Graveside service will be 12:00 p.m., January 4, 2023, at Forks of Coal Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating.

Many thanks to the Hospice ladies, Kayla, Jennifer, & Tara, who took special care of mom until her death. They were very kind.

David Lee Simmons, Jr.

David Lee Simmons Jr – dedicated husband, father, and friend – went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday December 27, 2022.

Dave was born to David and the late Vickie Simmons in Charleston, WV on May 2,1975. A graduate of Nitro High School, he went on to have a career as a Paramedic with multiple agencies, before becoming a nurse in May, 2021. Dave loved to help people, which was evident in the way he lived. Dave loved his family. You would find him at a ball field, basketball court, and cheering competitions, among other things, supporting his 5 kids. If you couldn’t find him at one of those places, you could find him at his church, Maranatha. He attended there as a kid, and a few years ago, returned as a husband and father, bringing his family to church. He loved being a part of his church family and served with his wife as a volunteer in the kids’ ministry.

Left to cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy are his wife of 14 years, Katie, his kids, Madison, Kaitlyn, Tanner, Cooper and Parker. Also left to cherish his memory is his dad, David, brothers, Cory Simmons, Steven Simmons, sisters, Amy (Josh) Bucklen, Sara (Michele) Simmons, along with other family members Kim Burgess, Chet (Tammy) Burgess, and T.C. (Brittany) Burgess and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Maranatha, located at 2910 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV. Family will be receiving visitors, beginning at 11am and the funeral service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Darren Powell officiating. Graveside service will be immediately following at Memory Gardens at Low Gap.

Carl Elmo Patterson

Carl Elmo Patterson, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 20, joining his Savior in Heaven and reuniting with his wife Nancy of 63 years. Nancy was laid to rest in May, 2020.

Carl, also known as Pat, was a lifelong resident of St. Albans, having graduated from St. Albans High School in 1952. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and an usher for several years. Carl was called upon many times to help with repairs around the church and use his truck for transporting materials, to which he gladly obliged. He truly enjoyed his time with his friends there, as well as morning coffee at Tim Horton’s, McDonald’s, and activities at Hansford Senior Center.

Carl is survived by his children Linda Layne (Brad) in Kennesaw, Georgia; Richard (Marie) in Randleman, NC; and Randall in St. Albans; five grandchildren – William Ireland III, Matthew Ireland, Connor Patterson, Elliott Patterson, Maleigh Patterson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ada Patterson, his brother Garland Patterson, and twin sisters Geraldine Bryan and Madeline Hensley.

Carl served in the Air Force, and after returning to St. Albans to raise his family, worked in various jobs throughout his career. He retired from FMC at age 59 and spent his free time playing golf, mowing grass for his neighbors, traveling with Nancy, and serving at the church. Carl will be remembered for his sense of humor, sharp wit and the high energy level he maintained until the loss of his beloved wife, Nancy.

Visitation will be held at Highlawn Baptist Church on Thursday, December 29 at 11 a.m., funeral service at noon officiated by Pastor Jason Robbins, and burial in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Patricia “Peggy” Madden

Patricia ”Peggy” Madden, 89 of Alum Creek, WV went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. She was born on May 21, 1933 (one of eleven children) to Roy and Donnie (Adkins) Linville in Cameo, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Bobby Madden and son, Mark Madden.

Peggy graduated from Scott High School in 1950 and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ. She was generous, kind, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Such wonderful gatherings were shared in her home by all especially during Christmastime! Before her declining health, she was an avid reader and enjoyed many walks with her sisters and best friend, Helen Williams.

She also enjoyed trips to Colorado with family, spending time in the cabins of Babcock State Park, watching CNN, the Golden Girls and Gunsmoke. Most of all, she enjoyed swinging on her back porch that her beloved husband had built for her, taking in the mountains of West Virginia which she always called home. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.

Peggy is survived by her children, Steve (Debbie) Madden, Alum Creek, Sandy (Marshall) Pauley, Alum Creek, daughter-in-law Penny Madden of Orlando, FL, Jesse (Tammy) Madden, Alum Creek, Connie (Alan) Tron, Colorado Springs, CO, Joyce (Rob) Davis, Charleston, WV, 16 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren and one on the way.

Many thanks to a special friend and wonderful caretaker of our mom, Sandy Breedlove, as well as Hospice of Charleston, WV.

There will be a private viewing for family on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV prior to a public graveside service at 2:30 PM, Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.
