Jean Marie Peterson, 84, of Charleston, died Friday, December 1, 2006 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as a result of an accident.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Peterson of Yawkey, Rick Peterson of Charleston, and Randall

Peterson, MD of Scott Depot; brother, Robert Watson of Clearfield, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment will be held at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Rick E. Tiffner, 62, of Yawkey, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Curtis Tiffner and Anna Eloise Harless Tiffner; brothers, Elmer Curtis, Jr., James Jesse “Bud”, Clyde, William DeWayne, Emmit Gordon, Paul and Saul Tiffner; sisters, Stella Ellen Tiffner, Virginia McClure and Rebel Romaine White.

Rick was a graduate of Duval High School and he was an employee of Dealers Engine Sales in Charleston.

He is survived by his daughters, Angie Tiffner of Charleston, Bridget Tiffner of Kentucky, Cynthia Tiffner Marontate and husband, Barry of Ontario, Canada; Ricki Ann Tiffner of South Charleston, and Emmilee Tiffner of Elkview; son, Curtis Wayne Tiffner of Elkview; sister, Marion “Sis” McClure of Griffithsville; brothers, Robert F. “Bob” Tiffner of Massillon, Ohio an Curtis H. Tiffner of Yawkey; grandchildren, Brandon Tiffner, Chris Eggleston, Jennifer Eggleston, Shane Perry, James Marontate and Kaylee Wines and great granddaughter, Kaylee Phillips. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and numerous business associates.

Services will be held at 8:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Buck Adkins officiating. A graveside service will be held 7:00 AM on Saturday in Miller Cemetery, Sweetland. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Russell James Roberts, 81, of Sumerco went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 28, 2006

He was a retired coal miner with U. S. Steel. He was a highly decorated Tech Sergeant for the U.S. Army during WW II.

Douglas M. Griffith, 64, of Dunbar, died Monday, November 20, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Kenner and Bremen Griffith, sister Faye Yerrid , nephew Jimmy Griffith and neices Susan Riling and Cindy Dimock.

He was a member of the Teamsters-Western Conference, and a retired mechanic for Wal-Mart.

He is survived by his:

Kevin (Connie) Griffith of St. Albans;

Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 3:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Billy Lucas officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Gary Wayne Sheppard

I am gone. My soul lives on, but in a better place; surrounded by the light of God in all His glory and grace.

Gary W. Sheppard, 48, of South Charleston departed suddenly on November 16, 2006 of an apparent heart attack. Gary was a graduate of Point Pleasant Christian Academy. He was a twelve year veteran of the US Army, which included a tour of duty in Operation Desert Storm, where he served as an Army Medic. After serving in the Army he was an independent trucker.

Gary was born on September 25, 1958, the third child of the late Holley L. “Jack” and Geneva “Hope” Runnion Sheppard.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Carol Sheppard

Children: Marsha, Kandra, Carolyn and Gary W. II.

Step-Children: Debbie McKinney & husband, Mike

Billy Morris & wife, Tammy

Dewayne Morris.

Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one Great-grandchild.

Sister: Pat Roberts & companion, Roger Province

James P. Flowers, 87, of St. Albans died Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital So. Charleston after a short illness.

He was a retired diesel mechanic for Chemical- Leaman Tank Lines a member of the Teamsters Local 84 of Charleston; Army veteran of WWII and 1st Fire Chief at Rt. 60 West Volunteer Fire Dept.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; and son, Danny.

Ruby Irene Hager, 51, of Spurlockville, died at home Monday, November 13, 2006 after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Henry Richmond, two brothers, Lester and Otis and a sister Mabel Machniak.

She graduated from Duval High School in 1973 and was a retired postmaster.

Eloise McNeely, 73, of Alum Creek, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006 after a long illness.

She attended Alum Creek Church of Christ, was preceded in death by her son Max Dale McNeely, daughter Janet Tyler, grand daughters Alissa McNeely and Amanda Gail Pack, four brothers and two sisters.

She was a former employee of Dee-Mure Brassiere Factory at Hamlin and also was a cook at Duval High School at Griffithsville.

James K. Poe

On November 7, 2006 after seventy-seven years of a meaningful life and forty-nine years of fulfilling his calling, Pastor James Poe left this world to enter into the presence of his Lord. He spent the majority of his life preaching and teaching people about the God he loved. The many people who were impacted by his life thru the years are too numerous to count. He will be missed by a host of friends, but his absence will be especially felt by the family he cared so much about. They include his wife and best friend of fifty-six years, Conna Poe; his children- Alan Poe, Steve Poe, Annitta Robinson and Annette McLeod; those who joined the family through the years and were treated as his own – Darcel Poe, Nancy Poe, Steve Robinson, Tom McLeod and A. J. Hanson; his grandchildren that meant so much to him – Sarah Poe, Stephen Poe, Benjamin Poe, Allison Poe, Lauren Poe, Chelsea Poe, Leanne McLeod Hanson, Andrea McLeod and his great-grand daughter, Haley Monet Rawlings. Also, he will be missed by his brothers – Ted Poe and David Poe.

Service will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, November 10, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV. Burial will be in the Bryan Family Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
