Robert Lee “Bob” Hudson

Robert Lee “Bob” Hudson, 86, of St. Albans, formerly of Atlas Road, South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.

Bob was born on February 9, 1922 at Middle Fork of Davis Creek to Lon and Ada Ellis Hudson.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Clark Wesley Hudson and Sam Hudson; sisters, Jane McKinney and Elsie Moore; grandson, Dennis Hudson and great grandson, Logan Moore.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany, was member of the 100th Infantry, 399th Regiment and was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Medal, Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, Honorable Service Lapel, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Bronze Star.  Having never received these medals following the war, Bob was presented with his medals in 2007 at the Hudson Family Reunion by Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito.  For over 45 years, Bob and his wife, Melvia, lived at Atlas Road in South Charleston, where they raised a family of eight children, before moving to St. Albans.  Bob retired from Kanawha Manufacturing Company in Charleston after 45 years of service.  Upon retirement, Bob and Melvia spent many weeks at a time throughout the year at their camp in Dunmore, Pocahontas County, until missing their grandchildren and great grandchildren would get the best of them and they would have to make a trip home.  Bob attended Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene for many years.

Bob is suvived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Melvia Williams Hudson; children, Bob and Sue Hudson of Davis Creek, Jim and Charla Hudson of South Charleston, Gary and Vicky Hudson of Alum Creek, Carol and Greg Abbott of Alum Creek, Chuck and Joyce Hudson of South Charleston, Linda and Jerry Taylor of St. Albans, Mark and Robin Hudson of St. Albans, and Kevin Hudson and his fiancé, Shayna Tomchin of Kenna; brother, Edgar Hudson of Strange Creek, Braxton County; sister, Mildred Hill of Huntington; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by many.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Entombment will be held with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW post #4768 will be  held at the Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
