Rondal F. Bell, Sr.

Rondal F. Bell, Sr., 86, of South Charleston went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 13, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was a retired service manager for Jefferds Corporation in St. Albans, a U>S> Army veteran of World War II (1942 to 1946), serving in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with 23 years of service. He was a member of the Benny Padilla CFW Post 4768 at Alum Creek, and Hopewell Baptist Church. Rondal loved to hunt and fish at his Randolph County camp since 1956.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Anthony “Tony” Bell and Belva Brown Bell; four brothers, Freeman, JE, Sanford “Sachet”, and Radith “Shorty” Bell; and two sisters, Phyllis Harrison and Eloise Dunlap.  He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Freddy (Joan) Bell of Clendenin, Ronnie (Terri) Bell of South Charleston, and Keith Owen of Culpepper, Va.; daughters, Valorie (Larry) Allen of South Charleston, Lena (Jeff) Walker of Teays Valley, and Sonja Tipton of Charleston; special adopted daughters, Donna Ashworth and Jenny Walls; brothers, Dennie (Denise) of Alum Creek and Kenny (Marcie) Bell of Charleston; special thanks to Chuck Rabel; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Visitation will be at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park with military graveside rites by the VFW.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hopewell Baptist Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 518, Alum Creek, WV 25003, would be appreciated.

Esther E. Pauley

Esther E. Pauley, 82, of Alum Creek departed this life on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, surrounded by her loving family.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years James T. Pauley Parents: Lewis and Ada Knuckles, Brothers: Kelly, Ervin, Leroy, and Paul Knuckles grandson: Richard Wayne Smith, great grandsons: Skyler and Griffin.   

She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by all including her dog Layla. She was a very sweet and kind woman with a heart of gold.  She is survived by her 2 daughters Anna(Harold)Shultz of South Charleston, Elma(Terry)Smith of Alum Creek: 7 grandchildren Gina Shultz, Lori Cox, Roger “Dale” Harper, Sherry Perry, T.J., Alex, and Casey Smith ; and 15 great grandchildren.   

The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation for the special care provided by her daughter ,care giver Elma , the E. R. and CCU at Thomas Hospital as well as the staff at Hubbard Hospice House. A Special thank you also goes to her great granddaughter Heather Cox.   

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday Nov. 16, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd. Alum Creek, with Pastor Butch Brogan officiating. Burial will be held in Fox Hill Cemetery, South Charleston.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to either Alzheimers Assoc. 1111 Lee Street East, Charleston,WV 25301 or Hubbard Hospice House 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311-1824.

 

Karla Lea Nunn

Karla Lea Nunn, 47 of Alum Creek, passed away in her sleep November 9, 2010 at home. 

She was preceded in death by her dad Kermit Nicholas.  She was a teachers assistant with Kanawha County Schools and a homemaker. 

She is survived by her husband; Sonny, sons Cameron and Matthew, mother and step-father; Patricia and Bob Porter, sister; Melinda (Jeff) Vanscyoc, brother; Edward V. Nicholas, step-brothers; Charles (Karen), John (Wanda), James (Anna) and Scott (Sidney) Porter, nephews; Dakota, Josh and Ricky, special niece called mamaw’s little girl: Emilee and nieces; Sarah and Crystal Moore. 

Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday November 13, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens at Yawkey.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Jason Wayne ‘Jake’ Clendenin, 28, of Olcott, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at CAMC-General Division surrounded by family and friends.  Jason loved music, guitar, cooking, hanging with friends and his cat, Bootsie.

Survived by: Mother & StepFather: Mary Rader McGilton and Daniel McGilton; Father: Larry Clendenin; Maternal Grandparents: Jimmy & Ruth Lutsy; Paternal Grandfather: Bob Armentrout; Sisters: Stephanie Rader and Teresa (Justin) Whitlock;  Brothers: Aaron and Chayton Rader; Baby daughter expected to be born in March 2011; One Niece and Two Nephews: Brianna, Braden & Anthony and also survived by a host of other family and friends

Services will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will be at the Barker Cemetery, Ashford, WV.  Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made toward funeral expenses.

William Ray Rymer

William Ray Rymer, 79, of Alum Creek passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 after a long illness with asbestos complicated by other various illnesses. He was a faithful and loyal member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church since 1972, where he served as a youth director, Sunday school teacher, trustee, and usher.  He was retired from Union Carbide after 28 years of service, was a longstanding member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 AF & AM, as well as, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tiffany Sloan (formerly know as William R. Rymer, Jr.) And brother, Robert Ross, and nephew, Ronnie Ross.  He will be rememberd by his loving wife of 58 years, Pauline; 2 Daughters: Donna (Eric) Saul and Cindie Beach; Grandchildren: Joshua Saul and partner, Jennifer Hughes; Jake (Jennifer) Saul; Zachary, Austin and Jesse Beach; Sister: Betty McComas; Brother: Jimmy (Anna Gae) Rymer; Sister-in-law: Lucille Ross; favorite niece: Nancy (Larry) Pauley; Nephew: David (Diane) Saul; Kent (Carol) Rymer; Bob (Jean) Ross; and Niece: Cindy Ross along with several other loving grand nieces, nephews and family members.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church. Service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jody Pistore, Pastor Keith George, and Rev. Gale Pauley officiating. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. 

The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Hossam Tarakji, Dr. Zaid Kawash, Dr. Rob Keith; nurse, Vera Standish, the loving and compassionate staff of Thomas Memorial Hospital and the many kind, loving friends who visited.  William will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor; his kind, gentle spirit and faithfulness to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 506, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Robert W. Smith

Robert W. Smith, “Mule Man Bob Smith”, went for his last mule and wagon ride on October 23, 2010.  He was born in Sutton, WV on February 24, 1941. He graduated from Gassaway High School in 1959. Her retired from Direct Mail after 32 years of service. 

Bob is survived by his wife Paula of 47 years, also son Lewis, daughter Pilar, and grandchildren Emily, Cordairo, Mitchelle, and ScottiAnn. He was preceded in death by parents Wayne and Mable Smith of Gassaway.  Bob loved raising and showing his mules. One of his greatest accomplishments was helping to start the Central WV Mule and Donkey Show in Flatwoods, 18 years ago. He was a character, and when they made him, they broke the mold. He will be greatly missed by all. 

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, send donations in his name to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25312.

Margaret Smith Bozek

Margaret Smith Bozek, 92, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. 

She was preceded in death by her children:  Norene Bradshaw, Carolene Settle, Roger & Michael Smith, Shelia Horvath.   She is survived by: Children: Anna Slade, James & Danny Smith, Irene Dotson, Montana Hager, Kathy Horvath, Lynn Bozek;  35 Grandchildren; 47 Great Grandchildren; and 17 Great Great Grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 24, 2010.  Pastor Frank Chapman will be officiating at the service at Lively Cemetery.

 

 

 

Lillian M. Carpenter

Lillian M. Carpenter, 83, of Tornado formerly of Ashford, died at home on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 after a long illness. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Junior Carpenter; parents: George & Vernie Cummings; sister: Stella Soughters, and special brother-in-law Lonza Holstein; and brother: George Cummings.

She is survived by daughters: Vickie (Mike) Alderman – Tornado, WV and Linda Elkins – Charleston, WV;  son: Kenny Carpenter – South Charleston, WV; sister: Virginia Holstein – Sissonville, WV; 9 Very Special Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great GreatGrandChildren.

Services will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Lewis.  Visitation with family and friends will be from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions toward the funeral service would be appreciated.

Ronald E. Smith

Ronald E. Smith, 55, of Sumerco, went peaceably in his sleep at home after a long illness on Monday, October 18, 2010.

He was a Christian which was demonstrated by the kindness and compassion and sacrificial love he showed to everyone. A dedicated husband, father, brother and friend. He was also a disabled coal miner.

He is survived by: Wife: Rita; Children: Matt Smith (Krista) – Sumerco; Chrissy Smith (Fiance’Adam Price) of St. Albans; Walter, Kimberly, Shawn, Timothy, Justin, Roy, Ashley, Karen, Kristina, Dakota, Joseph, Jeremy, Cristian, Alex, Yana, Anna, Emily, Teaghan, Tyler, Sidney, Destiny, & Isaiah – all at home; 3 Sisters: Corrine Mollohan; Midge (Norm) Justice; Phyllis (Bruce) Cooper; and one  Brother: Gary (Wilma) Smith.   He was also loved and will be missed by many neices, nephews, mother and father-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

Funeral services will be at 3:00pm on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Richard McCallister and Pastor Butch Loftis. Burial will be in the Midkiff Cemetery. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service.

Ramona R. McCormick, 79, of Alum Creek, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by:  Her husband: Donald H., sister: Macel Williams, and brother: Jackie Holstein.  She was a Baptist.

She was survived by  4 Sons: Roger Dale (Melody) McCormick,  Donald C. (Darla) McCormick, Daniel J. (Carrie) McCormick and Timothy Dale McCormick; 4 Sisters: Juanita Thomas Vallie Turley; and Zona Linville Connie Parsons; 4 Brothers: Gene, Murl, Doug & Roger Holstein; 7 Grandchildren: Andrea (Jeremy) Nunn, Sarah, Josh and Jacob McCormick, Kristen Bowles, Matthew and Kaitlyn McGrath; 3 GreatGrandchildren: Jayden and Kaylee Nunn and Dylan Bowles.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will be in Forks of Coal Memorial Park at Alum Creek.  Friends and family may gather Tuesday, October 19th from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Boulevard W., Charleston, WV 25312-2536.
