Agatha PauleyAgatha June Pauley, 80, of Alum Creek, loving wife of Asa for 62 years and wonderful mother of  son, Rod and Robert and wife, Barbara, went home peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Hospice West, South Charleston.

She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.

Agatha is also survived by brothers, Pete (Sue) Huffman and Terry (Debbie) Huffman; grandchildren, Nissa Rhea Pauley, Zacharaias and Christian Pauley;  great grandchildren, Makayla, Jozelyn, Gabe and Silas Pauley.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am Monday, October 27,  at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey with Pastor Clyde Gwin officiating.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please be respectful of our wishes and make donations to Hospice West, 4605 MacCorkle Ave., SW, South Charleston, WV  25309.

Jeffrey Scott Loftis, 45, of Sod, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at home.  He was the beloved son of Jack and Cornia (Williams) Loftis, who preceded him in death.

He was a 1987 graduate of Duval High School and retired from the Division of Highways, Yawkey Garage.   As a teenager, he was given the nickname “Sid.”  His love of pro-wrestling was unequaled, along with his belief that it was not staged.  Scott had collected comic books from a young age. He was also a big fan of Dale Earnhardt.    He loved Mountaineer football and had planned to watch the game and would have been proud of their win over Baylor.

He is survived by his cousins, Sande Egnor, who has faithfully watched over him since the passing of his mother, and  Le Ann Bonnett, who along with Sande,  shared custody of him for the past few years; stepdad, Wayne Tribble, who went above and beyond the call of duty where Scott was concerned; aunts and uncles, Carl and Ann Egnor, Lyle and Regina Loftis, and Trudy and Gerald Newhouse, who were always available for Scott; additional aunts, uncles, a multitude of cousins and one special little cousin, Trevor Egnor.

Service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, October 21, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Billy Silva officiating.  Scott will be cremated and interred in Lively Cemetery, Sod, with his parents at a later date.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Scott and his love of animals in need, the family requests donations to an animal shelter or animal rescue of your choice.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Patrick Stone and the staff at several different units at CAMC Memorial for the care he received during his hospitalizations this past year.

Denise Raymond Roberts

Denise RobertsDenise Raymond Roberts, 78, of Alkol, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston.

She was born June 27, 1938 in Paris, France and was preceded in death by her husband Theodore.

She is survived by her son, Jean Richard Roberts, daughters Joyce Capwell and Sada Cherba, sister Monique, and many others family members that will miss her dearly.

Graveside services were 11 AM Saturday, October 11, at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens, Yawkey with Father Neil R. Buchlein officiating.

Gilmer E. Mosteller

gilmer mosteller smallGilmer E. Mosteller, 87, of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

He was a retired Boilermaker with Local 667.  He was saved in 1976 and became a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, where he served as Trustee; he also worked as a painter and farmer.

Gilmer was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Jo; son, Wayne “Moe” and wife, Kathy Mosteller; grandsons, Robert (Wendy) and Jeff (Allison); granddaughter, Brandy Messer; great grandson, Dawson and great grandson on the way, Ashton; and great granddaughters, Molly and Abigail.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 7, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Jeff Mosteller, Robert Mosteller and Pastor Homer Hensley officiating.  Burial will follow at Mosteller-Yoder Cemetery, Tornado.   The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Gregory A. Pack

Gregory A. Pack, 60, of St. Albans, a seventh son of a seventh son, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Greg was predeceased by his parents, Basil and Grace Nelson Pack; brothers, Donald and Bobby Pack; and sister, Barbara.

Greg served his country in the US Air Force and was a graduate of Duval High School Class of 1971.

He is survived by his, brothers, Leo, Ronald, Joe and Bill Pack; sister, Peggy.

A special thank you to Phyllis Perry and Gary Pack for the excellent care they gave Greg during his battle with cancer.

As per Greg’s wishes, he will be cremated and a private memorial service with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will be 11:00 am Saturday October 18, 2014 at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey, for family and friends.

Linda Carol Gillispie, 71, of Charleston died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Valley Center, South Charleston.

She is survived by cousins, Gladys Gore and son, Richard of South Charleston; Imogene Hartwell, Shirley Rhodes and husband, Grant, Chris Gillispie, Mark Gillispie, Kathy Schnelle and daughter Emily, Mae Pauley and family, and Margaret Gillispie and family.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Barker Cemetery, Ashford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Robert D. (Bob) Adkins

After a battle with cancer, on Thursday September 25, 2014, the Lord called Bob home to forever be at peace by His side. He peacefully passed away, at home, surrounded by those who love him most.

He was born May 15, 1952, was a graduate of Duval High School class of 1971, former member of the Painters Union and retired from Ashland Oil, and a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

He was a loving husband, father and one of his proudest accomplishments was being a “Popple” to his loving grand-daughters Kiara (Doodle Bug) and Katie (Katie Bug).

He was preceded in death by his father Asa Glenn Adkins and mother Mildred K. Adkins.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Portia Adkins, daughter Heather (J.R.) Pauley, grand-daughters Kiara (Tyler Lucas) Pauley and Katie Pauley all of Alum Creek, brother Glen (Wayne) Adkins of Alkol, sister Kay Adkins-Graley of Sumerco as well as extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, September 28, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Minister Joseph Watts officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Bear Branch Cemetery Spurlockville.

The family would like to thank the offices of Dr. Elmore and Dr. Suzanne Cole and the chemo department for their kind services, treatments and the level of care provided and Dr. Scott Smith and Dr. Donald Lilly for their many years of care, and also a special mention to Jodi Miller and Hope Fout, whom are both like family, and known by Bob as “His Girls Too”.

Nile Karen Barker

Nile Karen BarkerNile Karen Barker, 75, went home to meet the Lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at  Edgewood Manor, Lucasville, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Kathleen Barker and brother, Ricky.

He attended Emmons Freewill Baptist Church, and loved his Lord dearly.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the 5th Group Special Forces.  He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW.

He is survived by his brothers: Dale (Sue) Barker and Blane (Belinda) Barker and sisters: Brenda (Gene) Flowers and Martha (Steve) Hargis.

Services will be 2:00pm on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, with Pastor Richard Harold officiating.  Burial with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 3768 will follow at the Barker cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Junior Freeman Chandler

Junior ChandlerJunior Freeman Chandler, 85, of Yawkey in Lincoln County, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 22, 2014, after a long illness. He was born December 16, 1928 in Saint Albans to Freeman and Viola Chandler.  He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at Griffithsville.  He was retired from Union Carbide Construction Company at Institute as a supervisor with 40 years of service.

Junior became a born-again Christian when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour when he was 18 years of age.  He was later ordained as a deacon and faithfully served in that position at Joe’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Tango for more than 57 years.  He loved his church and was a faithful member.

On July 8, 1947,  he married the love of his life and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Viola Chandler; sisters: Norma and Agnes; half-sisters: Ruth, Edna, Thelma and Dorothy; brother: Denver Chandler; half-brother: Donald Mosteller; sons-in-law: Harold Bennett and Richard Bowles.

Junior is survived by his loving wife, Anna Smith Chandler; Daughters: Dorean Bennett, Ovieda, FL; Janet (Dwight) McClure, Griffithsville; Melinda Bowles, Yawkey; Patty (Lannie) Kidd, Alum Creek; Son: Jackie Chandler, Yawkey; half-sister: Mary Florence Mosteller; half-brothers: Arthur and Roger Mosteller; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Joe’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Tango, with Rev. Oshel Bell and Rev. Robert McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Memory Garden, Yawkey.  Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.
