Frieda DunlapFreda Fay Dunlap, 86, of Sod went home to be with The Lord Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Valley Center in Springhill.

She was a homemaker and  member of McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church.  She also donated part of the property where the current church is located.

Freda is survived by her son, Donald Dunlap (Charlotte); sister, Delores Dunlap and grandson, David Dunlap.

Service will be 11:00 am Friday at the McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church with Pastors Frank Chapman and Roe Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove/Anderson Cemetery, Sumerco.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Robert WrightRobert Lee “Rob” Wright, Sr., 40, of Springhill passed suddenly Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

He was a 19 year employee of Kroger.  Robert was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, nephew, uncle and friend.  He loved the outdoors and spending time with family.  He was definitely a “family man”.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Virginia; sons and their wives, Dyllon  Wright (Summer) and Robert Wright, Jr. (Hilary); grandchildren, Kaylee, Dyllon Jr., Colten, Kannon and Braylin; brother, Steve Wright; grandmother Greta Mallory; mother and stepfather, Donna and Frank Hoffman and many other family and friends.

Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 13, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.  Burial will follow at Fox Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Kirk PicGeorge W. “Wimpy” Kirk, 81, of Sissonville, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 8, 2015 after a short stay at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was an active member of the Maranatha Baptist Church, Sissonville, and loved to go soul winning.  He was retired from Union Carbide with 35 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Altha O. Kirk, parents, Wheeler J. and Lillian Kirk, siblings, Hank and Leon Kirk, Patricia Williams and Linda Spencer.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela K. Hudnall; sons, Billy R., Douglas W., and Donald E. Kirk; sisters: Vaughna Priestley and Jeanette Larch; 6 grandchildren; Michael J. Hudnall , Jonathan D. Hudnall, Angela Sartin, Daniel Kirk, Deanna Boothe, Erin Williams, and 11 great grandchildren.

Service will be 7:00pm Wednesday evening at the Maranatha Baptist Church, #1 Maranatha Acres, Sissonville, WV, with former Pastor Bill Bartlett and Pastor Kevan Bartlett officiating.  Burial will be  10:00am on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston with Military Honors conducted by the Alum Creek VFW.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday evening at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, Missoins Fund, #1 Maranatha Acres, Charleston, WV  25312.

Elvin Junior Smith

Elvin SmithElvin Junior Smith, 92, of Costa,  went to sleep and woke up in heaven Saturday, June 6, 2015.

He was a WW II Navy veteran; a former superintendent at Cabot Gas and a member of Nellis Wesleyan Church, where he served as Trustee and a Board Member.  He loved working on vehicles, camping, fishing and gardening, but most of all spending time with  his family whom he loved dearly.

Elvin is survived by his wife, Texas Gagne Coto Smith; daughters, Sandy Green of Charleston and Tena (Bill) Webb of Sumerco; son, Elvin James (Viktoriya) Smith; grandchildren, Michael “Moe” Green, Matthew Green, Justin Webb, Blake Smith and Mary Smith; great grandchildren, Maisie, Saidie, Michael and Lucas.

Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Nellis Wesleyan Church with Pastors Randall Kinder and Mitch Nelson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Entombment with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will be  10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10,  at Cunningham Memorial Park Upper Mausoleum, St. Albans.

Marvin D. Gillispie

Marvin D. Gillispie,59, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2015 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Sherman Gillispie and brothers, Roger and Johnny Gillispie.

He is survived by his son, Marvin II; grandson, George Gillispie;  brothers, David (Marilyn) and Gary (Pam); sister, Regina (Butch) Barker; and companion, Laurie Pauley and her children.

Service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 9, at the Emmons Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Graley officiating.  Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery in Ashford.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Curry Funeral Home.

Clifford GriffethClifford Wayne Griffith, 70, of Yawkey went home to be with his Lord Monday, June 1,2015.

He was retired from the WV Department of Highways and a member of Porter Fork Baptist Church.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Louvena McClure Griffith and sister, Elaine Mannon.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday at the Porter Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Ruby officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

 

Robert Lee Dixon

Robert Dixon 1Robert Lee Dixon, 87, of Alum Creek, WV went home to be with Our Lord on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Valley Center Nursing Facility after a long illness.  He was born August, 20, 1927 in Charleston, WV but grew up near Strange Creek, WV before returning to Charleston in 1952.

Robert (Bob) attended Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek and before that he was an active member at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview.  He enjoyed being with his family, reading his Bible and listening to the radio, taking long walks, gardening and always helping others.

He served in the US Army as a medic (1945-1947).  After his service in the military he went for training as an electronic technician.  He worked as a technician for 45 years at Mountain Electronics/Midwest Corp., RCA, GE and Strickland TV.  He was co-owner of The Service Company.  He was honored for his expertise in this field of electronics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Blair and Emma Johnson Dixon; brothers, Charles and James Dixon; sisters, Edna Dixon, Virginia Fields and Avalene Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilda Conner Dixon of Alum Creek, WV; four children, Sharon Hylton (Mark) of Mineral Wells, WV, Mark Dixon of St. Albans, WV, Cynthia Dixon of Cross Lanes, WV, and Teresa  Good (John) of Kenna, WV; six grandchildren, Nathaniel Good, Audrey Hylton, Matthew Good, Matthew Hylton, Sarah Dixon and Heather Dixon; two brothers, William Dixon of Warren, OH and Foster G. Dixon of Strange Creek, WV; one sister, Sue Casey of Morrison, TN.

Service will be 11:00 am Friday, May 29, 2015 at Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Johnson Family Cemetery, Braxton County.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the church.

Ronald “Red” Stanton Wheeler, 86, of Alum CrRonald Wheeler online obiteek went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at home with his children by his side.

He was a millwright worker, an appliance repairman for Speed Queen and a member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

Red was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice K. Wheeler; and daughters, Betty Lou Cantley and Sheila Ann Cross.

He is survived by sons, Donald (Karen) of Alum Creek and Jonathan (Martina) of Cabin Creek; daughters, Sharon Lynn (Danny Joe) Thomas of Alum Creek and Victoria Sansom of Windsor, SC; sons in law, Roger Cantley of So. Charleston and Hershell Cross of Aiken, SC; sister, Barbara Anna Thewes of Ripley and brother, Gerald Wheeler of CA; 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Mike Wheeler, Keith Myers and Danny Joe Thomas for their care and help with Dad during his illness.

LillyAnna HoffmanLillyAnna Grace Hoffman, six week old daughter of Luke Hoffman and Olivia Belcher, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

She is also survived by her brothers, Gunner Belcher and Harrison Taylor; grandparents, Rodney (Dawn) Belcher, Angie Belcher, Susie Hoffman and Nathan Hoffman; great  grandparents, Richard and Jewell Belcher and Donald and Patricia Mosteller,  Audrey Shrewsbury and Kenneth Smithson; aunt, Katelyn Belcher; uncles, Brock and Landon Hoffman; great uncle and aunts, Mike and Kim McCoy and Beany Midkiff; and many other great uncles, aunts and cousins. 

Funeral service will be 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23rd at  Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Homer Hensley officiating.    Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

Wilmer ClarkRev. Wilmer (Flap) Anderson Clark, 84, of Sumerco went home to his Lord Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at home on Ely Road at 12:28am after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline, his parents, Harlie and Stellie Clark, brothers: Bobby and Elmer and sisters: Bonnie, Faye and Eldean.

He was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church, Alum Creek and previously a pastor of Pine Grove Church, Ely Community Church and Huntington Street Baptist Church and others.  He was a veteran worked for E.E. Moore Co., and a member of Finishers Concrete Union.

He is survived by his: sons Eddie Hughes (Diane) and David Hughes (Delores), daughters Judy Allen and Regina Bias (Moe), Sisters, Bessie Fowler, Melba Saul, Mary Dunlap, and Shirley Justice, brother, Howard Clark,  12  grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00pm Friday May 22, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, with Pastor Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Family Cemetery, Ely. Family and friends will gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
