Matthew Lee “Matt” Presley, 17, of Sissonville died on Sunday, February 20, 2000 at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital after a short illness.

He attended the 10’s grade at Sissonville High School where he participated in the Special Olympics, was active in the Kanawha Two Mile Gospel Tabernacle at Edens Fork and was a life long resident of Kanawha County.

He is survived by his: Parents: Tony and Pam Presley; Paternal Grandmother: Jean Thompson of Chazleston, WV; Paternal Grandfather: Roy Ray Presley of Mims, FL; Maternal Grandfather: Donnie Midkiff of AlumCreek, W V; Maternal Great Grandmother Thelma Midkiff of Monroe, LA.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, February 24, 2000 at 2:00 PM with Pastor John Hensley officiating. Burial will be held in the Turley Family Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 23, 2000 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

James H. “Sonny” Linville, 63 of Sod, formerly of Oceana, died Saturday, February 12, 2000 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

He was a retired compressor station supervisor for CNG Transmission Corp. in Kopperston, West Virginia with 38 years service. He was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod where he served as a trustee and was a former member and trustee at Oceana United Methodist Church. He also served in the West Virginia Air National Guard for 8 years.

He is survived by his: Wife: Carol; 2 Daughters: Annette Lester of Florence, SC; Tammy McGonagle of Graham, NC; 4 Brothers: Harold Linville of Tampa, FL; Gene Linville of Orlando, FL; Larry Linville of Glasgow, WV; Jerry Linville of Sod, WV; 2 Sisters: Anna Gae Rymer of Yawkey, WV; Mary Sue Pauley of Chattanooga, TN; 4 Grandchildren: Zachary, Kristin &Cameron Lester, Tyler McGonagle.

Services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod with Pastor Jimmy Jones and Pastor Arnold B. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, a W WII Army Veteran and was called the miracle man because he was the only survivor out of 254 men in a battle in Germany.
