Lula Elkins Murphy, 94, of Racine, Ohio, formerly of St. Albans, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the home of her daughter, Alice Smith of Racine, after a long illness.

She was a resident of Kanawha County for 70 years and a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Charleston.

She is also survived by: 1 Son: Rev. Harold Murphy, Arnet, WV; 8 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; Several great-great grandchildren.

Service will be Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 2:00PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Robert James officiating. Burial will be in Marmet Cemetery, Marmet. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lonnie R. Holstein

Lonnie R. Holstein, 84, of Belle, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after a long illness.

He was a retired pipe fitter and shop foreman for Dupont with 36 years of service. He served in W WII where he was a mechanic for the 46 Air Depot Group.

He is survived by his, wife, Pauline; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Wayne and Kelly Holstein of Charleston; step-son and daughter-in-law, John and Patti Niewierowski of South Charleston; brother and sister-in-law, Ward “Bill” and Hilda Holstein of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Gladys Haid of Charleston and Louise Holstein of Dupont City; three grandchildren, Chris Niewierowski of St. Albans, Scott Howerton and wife, Edwina, of Lexington, SC, Lynda Berry and husband, Brian, of Nitro; four Beat grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Ctirrry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Ron Burnsworth officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be held in the Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Edward T. Oxley, 92, of Clay County, formerly of Charleston, died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Survived by his sons, Geary, Bill, Tom and Bob; daughters, Regina Hamrick and Carol.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Pauley Cemetery, South Charleston. There will not be a visitation.
Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

Burliss C. Waldron

Burliss C. Waldron, Sr., 75, of Spring Hill, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, September 9, 2004 after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Diehl.

Burliss was a member of Vineyard Christian of Charleston, retired with 42 years of service from Union Carbide, South Charleston, and was an U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, David of Burnsville, Fred and John both of St. Albans, Burliss, Jr. of Hurricane; sister, Bea Mallory of St. Albans; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Chuck Reber officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Mary E. “Libby” Sprowls, 80 of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Saturday September 4, 2004 at CAMC Memorial Hospital Charleston.

She was retired from the Brockway Glass-Libby Owens Ford in Washington Pennsylvania with 42 years of service, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Lady Hogue Rebekah Lodge 102 IOOF of Washington, and was preceded in death by her parents John &Elizabeth Sprowls and brother Vincent Sprowls.

She was survived by her special family, Jeff, Charlene, Justin and Cristina Ray all of Alum Creek, West Virginia.

Graveside service and burial will be 1:00 PM Tuesday September 7, 2004 at the Claysville, Pennsylvania Cemetery with Dr. Robert Campbell officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek, WV

Arlene McCallister, 81, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 27, 2004 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County and a member of Sumerco Church of God.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, William Ark and Elma Roberts; two husbands, James “Bud” Tiffner and Lawrence McCallister; one daughter, Diane and three brothers, Curtis, Ransford and James Roberts.

She is survived by one son, Dr. Larry McCallister and his wife, Betty of Dunbar; two daughters, Connie Moms and her husband, Ronald of Hedgesville; Enna Arthur and her husband, Paul of Huntington; two brothers, Claude and Benny Roberts of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Gracelene Drennen of Hines and Carol Graham of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three step- great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 am on Monday, August 30, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call on Sunday From 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

She was a member of the Darmont Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Barker; daughters, Wanda Jordan of Sissonville, Shena Bazker of Emmons; sons, Gene Angel of Gold Town, Ronnie Angel of Marmet; sisters, Arlene of Olcott; Linda Hunt of South Charleston, Sharon Wentz of South Charleston, Fran Mathena of St. Albans, Marilyn Gillspie of Beckley, Connie Holstein of Charleston, brothers, Junior Holstein of Emmons, John Holstein of South Charleston, Alton Holstein of Olcott, Mike Holstein; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. F. A. Giles officiating. Burial will be held in Holstein Family Cemetery, Dartmont. Friends may call on Saturday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Randall Dale Egnor, 54, of Alum Creek, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at home after an apparent heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Spears Egnor.

He was retired from the railroad and was a Vietnam Army veteran.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Egnor; son, Christopher Egnor; brother, Stephen Egnor; sisters, Rebecca Angel and Ramona Vannatter.

There will not be any services. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

Ruth Carol Bailey

Ruth Carol Bailey, 64, of Charleston, formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 15, 2004 after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Ruth Priestley.

Cazol was a retired juvenile probation officer for the state of West Virginia and was a member of the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Myers of Charleston; son, Mike Bailey of Woodbridge, Virginia; brother, Gerald Priestley of Alum Creek; sister, Clara Turley of Alum Creek; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Opal Elkins

Opal Elkins, 82, of Sod, died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Elkins and her three sisters, Madeline Dunlap, Daisy Watts and Dessie Graley.
Opal was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.
She is survived by her daughter, Dinah Holstein of Sod; sister, Birdie Priestley; two grandchildren, April Estep and Craig McCoy; two great grandchildren, Jon-Rai and Jorja Estep.
Services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Michael Kordusky officiating. Burial will be held at Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call a half hour before the service on Sunday.
