Thurman Ray Wright

Thurman Ray Wright, 80, of Sumerco departed the family to be united with God on April 15, 2005 at home with the presence of family and friends after a long illness.

Thurman was born in Ivy Branch on June 30, 1924. The son of the late Orvil and Claza (Wagoner) Wright. In addition to his pazents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deanna Ward; three brother, Jack, Ronda and Frank; and a sister, Gladys Gladwell. He retired from Kanawha Block Company in 1962; and was a member of McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a member of Laborers Local 1353; he was a Nary Veteran of W WII.

He is survived by Wife, Zola; daughters and husbands: Kathy and Bob Adkins of McCorkle; Marylin and Kermit Roberts of Hurricane; Eloise (Weasy) and Danny Roberts of Sumerco; Juanita and Tom Ward of Orlando, FL

Sons and wives: Darrell (Tickle) and Stephanie Wright of Sumerco; Richard and Denise Wright of Jacksboro, TN; Roger (Boo) Wright at home

Thirteen grandchildren: Bobby, Rodney, Melinda, Randy, Lora, Paula, William, Amber, Karen, Michelle, Greg, Brenton and Breann

Twelve great-grandchildren: Shantel, Dakota (Cody), Zachary, Nicholas, Steven, Melody, Adam, Kirsten, Jesse, Tyler, Brittney and Brandon.

Brother: Howard of Jacksonville, FL

Sisters: Geneva Smith of Cross Lanes; Jeri Goff of Dunbar

Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 18, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor Jerry Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery Sumerco, with Military Graveside Rites by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice and LCOC for the loving care given.

Donna Carol Dorsey

Donna Cazol Dorsey, 47 of So Charleston died peacefully at home with her family by her side after a 2 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was a 1976 Graduate of G. W. High School, an employee at CAMC General Division and a member of the United Church of God in Chesapeake. Donna was preceded in death by her mother Glenna Midkiff.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years: Robert Dorsey

Services will be 1:00 PM Sunday April 17, 2005 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor John Foster officiating. Burial will be in the Pauley-Midkiff Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 7 to 9 on Saturday at the funeral home.

Norma Jean Robertson

Norma Jean Robertson, 53 of Charleston, died on Thursday, April 14, 2005. As the sun dimmed and the wind slightly blew our precious little angel took her journey home to be with her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by Thelma Bessie Curtis and Norma Agnes Young.

She was loved and will be missed, we will find peace in our hearts knowing she is in heaven and made whole.

She is survived by Arthur A. Young, Arthur A. Young, II, Katherine, Heather, Robert Lee, Hope Young and Crystal.

Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2005 at Cuny Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor David Wall officiating. Burial will be in the Forks of Coal Memorial Pazk at Alum Creek. Friends may gather one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Orpah Gillenwater Doyle

Orpah Gillenwater Doyle, 90, of Yawkey, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Apri114, 2005 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her son, George Rose and great grandson, Wesley West.

She was a Christian and attended Sumerco Church of God. She was a former dietician for Central State Hospital in Indiana. She made many beautiful quilts and afghans for family and friends. She loved gardening.

Orpah is survived by her three daughters, Ann Brooks of Indianapolis, Indiana, Susan Schlegel of Clayton, Indiana, Norma Weddington of Culloden; son, James D. Rose and wife, Rebecca of Fayetteville, Georgia; brothers, Otis Gillenwater and C. W. “Billy” Gillenwater; 20 grandchildren, Mane Moody, Abbie Thompson, Lee Brooks, Ruth Grantham, Andrew Rose, Mazy Ellen Essex, Ruth Ann Morrow, Lazinda Sowder, Shirley Short, Charles Wagers, Ladora West, Billy Schlegel, Sazah, Joshua, and Rebekah Weddington, Megan, David and Logan Williams, Speedy and Jonathan Workman; 32 great grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

Service will be 3:30 PM on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at the Sumerco Church of God with Pastor Richard McCallister and Pastor Butch Loftis officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey. Friends may call Saturday from 4 to 6 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

John Roger Smith

John Roger Smith, 54, of Alum Creek, lost his battle with Pazkinson’s disease on Tuesday April 12, 2005.

He was a Christian and a former 16 year employee of Helrohn Insulation in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is survived by his mother Mazgaret Bozek of Alum Creek; daughter, Lynn Kaplin of Ohio; four grandchildren, Danny, Larissa, Scott Jr., and Joshua all of Ohio; six sisters, Anna Bell Smith Slate of Red House, Norene Bradshaw of Alum Creek, Sheila Horvath and Montana Hager both of Alkol, Kathy Rolfes and Irene Dotson both of Ohio; three brothers Jimmy Smith of Texas, Danny and Michael Smith both of Alum Creek; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Carlleal Linville

Carlleal Linville, 80, of Alum Creek, went to meet Jesus Thursday, April 7, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Donnie Linville; sisters, Ora Wolford and Nancy Sue Williams.

He was a lover of life and a friend to all. He was a retired employee of FMC South Charleston, a Christian, and a Navy veteran of WWII..

He is survived by his wife of 55 plus years: Vada

Charles Faron Gillispie

Chazles Faron Gillispie, 45, of South Charleston died Wednesday, April 6, 2005.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chazles Henry Gillispie; sister, Lisa; and half-brother, Larry Baxter.

Chazles was a graduate of G.W. High School; a former computer analyst for Scaff Engineering Co., Chazleston and also for State Elecetric in Dunbaz; a member of the Dunbaz Masonic Lodge # 159 AF&AM and Beni Kedem Temple.

He is survived by his son: Charles “Buddy” Gillispie; Mother and Stepfather:  Kay and Paul Pauley of Dunbar; Brother: Nathan Gillispie of Charleston; Sister: Teresa Barnhart of Concord, NC; Half-sister: Anna Spencer of Sissonville; Step-sister:Barbara Selman of Charleston; Step-brother and wife: Randy and Tonya Pauley of Bancroft

Dollie Bowman Rucker

Dollie Bowman Rucker, 81, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2005 at CAMC General Hospital.

She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.

She is survived by her daughters, Naomi Childress and husband, Gary of Hurricane, Tamar “Tammy” Plott and husband, Ron of Charleston; son, Jerry Bowman and wife, Dawnnett of Tornado; sisters, Daisy Dean Akers of Danville, and Betty Jo Peyton of Danville; grandchildren, Tonya Childress Gillespie, Christopher Childress, Anita Adkins, Donna Linton, JerryDale Bowman, Wesley Pauley; five great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, Apri16, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Juanita Stanley

Mrs. Juanita Stanley, 90, went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Apri12, 2005 after a short illness.

Juanita lived a full, good life of service and sacrifice for her family, friends, and church. She was a great cook and as a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, she served many years preparing many dinners at the church every Wednesday night. After the death of her husband, Carlton H. Stanley, and her young son, Terry, Juanita raised her daughter, Linda to be a beautiful, strong woman. As their beloved “MaMaw”, she also, helped raise two wonderful grandchildren, Ashley and Chris Jarrett, who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton; her son, Terry; son-in-law and step-daughter, Randall and Mary Love; step-son, C. H. Stanley; sisters, Garnett Smith and Pauline Sparks; and brother, Herbert Whitley.

Juanita is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roger Jarrett of St. Albans; sisters, Dee Kirk of Chelyan, grandchildren, Ashley and Christopher Jarrett of St. Albans; her good friend and fellow mother-in-law, Virginia Jarrett; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Regency Place in Scott Depot, and the nurses and doctors of 2 North at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Tuesday, Apri15, 2005 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Hyde and the Rev. Joseph Jarrett presiding. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Stanley’s name to Highlawn Baptist Church.
Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek is in charge of the arrangements.

Daniel Shane “Spanky”Howell of McCorkle entered into eternal life on March 31, 2005 at the age of 26.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Royce Dunlap; mother, Kathy Dunlap; aunt, Beverly Sowards; and grandmother, Marcie Callahan.

He is survived by his fiancee, Angie Callahan; beloved and cherished children, son, Jacob Howell, and step-daughter, Sarah Callahan; sister, Cassy Miller; brother-in-law, Larry Miller; grandfather, Paul Griffith; four step-brothers; adopted parents, Michal and Melissa Wheeler; and a host of loving family and friends.

Spanky was a 1997 graduate of Duval High School, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 4, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with the Rev. Meddie Ray Dunlap officiating. Burial will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle.
Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
