Mary Louise Smith Wolfe

Mary Louise Smith Wolfe, 81, of St. Albans, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Shepherd Smith and William Lawrence Smith of Eleanor; sister, Catherine Smith and her husband, Charles V. Rigney of St. Albans; and great grandson, Cameron Blayke Wolfe.

Mary was born in Charleston on December 11, 1924 and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1942. She married Russell C. Wolfe on May 23,1943 in Charleston at Calvary Baptist Church and moved to St. Albans, in 1954 where she has been a longtime faithful member of Highlawn Baptist Church.

She was involved with Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, active in PTA and Band Boosters at both McKinley Junior High and St. Albans High School. She loved her church and was very active in the Martha Langley Circle as well as the ladies work at the church. She was a Sunday school teacher at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans where she also served as a deaconess.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Russell; son, Lawrence C. Wolfe and special daughter-in-law, Bonnie S. Wolfe, son, William Richard Wolfe all of St. Albans, four grandchildren, Amie Leigh Wolfe Rothstein and husband, David of Newton, New Jersey, Catherine Louise Wolfe Richards and husband, James of Hurricane, Jason Richard Wolfe and wife, Jeanie of Liberty, Jeffrey Lawrence Wolfe and wife, Beth of Bloomington, Indiana. She had 10 great grandchildren she adored and was proud of them all: Kaila Michelle Sigman, Joshua Andrew Sigman, Alanah Nicole Richards, Jason Tyler Wolfe, Tristin Lane Wolfe, Courtland Isaac Wolfe, Sierra Brooke Wolfe, Jordan Lawrence Rothstein, Justin William Rothstein and Joshua David Rothstein. She is also survived by special niece, Becky Rigney Westergaard of Columbus, Ohio, special cousin, Jean Groves Sayre of Decatur, Georgia and special friend, Betty Pierson Williams of Charleston.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 16, 2006 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, with Rev. Dr. Pastor Joe Hyde officiating. Burial will be held in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Highlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177.

Gordon R. Roberts, Sr.

Gordon R. Roberts, Sr., 70, of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was a retired bus driver with Kanawha County Schools. He was a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Macel; daughter, Brenda Garnes of South Charleston; two sons, Gordon Roberts, Jr., of Sumerco, Kevin Roberts of Cohutta, Georgia; sister, Billie Means of Sumerco; brother, Marvin Roberts of Dunbar; two grandchildren, Mandy Garnes and J. J. Roberts.

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roe Smith officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Harvey James Kelley

Harvey James Kelley, 85, of Yawkey, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.

He was retired from Western Electric, Baltimore, Maryland, a member of the Church of Ascension in Street, Maryland and also attended the Amy Baptist Church at Yawkey. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 111 at Hamlin.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; sisters, Louise, Anna, Irene and Dorothy.

He is survived by his wife, Waynoka; sister, Jeannette Komsi of Englewood, Florida; sister-in-law, Garnette Vickers of Alkol and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV with Pastors Forest Curry and Oshel Bell officiating. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 111 will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Arl Wilson Pauley, Jr.

Arl Wilson Pauley, Jr., 66, of Alum Creek, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2006 at home after a very long illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arl W. Pauley, Sr.; mother, Freda Pauley Knuckles; sister, Annie “Pat” Clark and brothers, Raymond Lee and Robert Michael Pauley.

He was a self-employed construction worker.

He is survived by his sons, Arl Pauley, III and wife, Carolyn of Charleston, Wayne Pauley of Manchester, KY, Bryan Pauley of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Lisa Wagner and husband, Steve of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Brad Pauley, Kimberly Adams-Fontenot and husband, Jason, Natasha Adams, Tyler Humphrey-Pauley; great grandchildren, Autumn and John Adams; former wife, Doris Jean Pauley; 10 nephews and 12 nieces.

Family are invited to attend a service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the family home place.

Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of the arrangements.

Delores Jean (Myers) Ashley, 57 of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday January 5, 2006 at Select Speciality Hospital Charleston after a long illness.

She was a member of the Community Gospel Church of Jesus at Woodville, was retired from Vogue Laundry in So. Charleston and Superior Laundry in Charleston and was preceded in death by her husband Dell Ashley.

She is survived by her:

Dorcas Abbott Hale

Dorcas Abbott Hale, 94, of Sun City Center, Florida passed away December 31, 2005.

She was the daughter of Z.C. and Florence Whitten Abbott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos and son, Monte Hale, Sr.

She spent most of her life in Lincoln and Logan Counties, West Virginia as a piano teacher. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, Yawkey, West Virginia, past president of Coal River Baptist Women and she devoted most of her years in church work.

She is survived by her two grandsons, Monte Hale, Jr. And Craig Hale of Tennessee, two great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews, a special niece and husband, Mary and Lexton Fisher of Sun City Center, Florida.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, January 5, 2006, at Beech Grove Baptist Church, Yawkey, with Pastors Oshel Bell and Jackie Clark officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elizabeth Norene Bradshaw, 65 of So. Charleston went home to be with her Father Thursday, December 29, 2005 after a long illness.

She is survived by her: Daughter: Teresa Bazker; 3 Sons: Carless, Summers and David; Mother: Margaret Bozek; Brothers: Jimmy, Michael and Danny; Sisters: Anna Bell, Irene, Montana, Shelia and Kathy; 5 Grandchildren 2 Great Grandchildren.

Arthur A. Young, 82, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Beverly Health Care Center, Glasgow.

He is retired from Libby Owens Glass with 32 years of service. He attended the Cornerstone Church of God, Nitro. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Waz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma.
He is survived by: 2 Sons: Arthur Young, II and wife, Katherine of Charleston, WV Robert Young and wife. Hope of St. Albans, WV; 2 Daughters: Carolyn Walker of West Palm Beach, FL Dorcus Escue of Charleston; 1 Brother: Curtis Jr. Young of Elkview ; 2 Sisters: LouEllen Toler of Charleston Wanda Faye Toler of Charleston ; Several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Milburn Clyde Nelson

Milburn Clyde Nelson, 65 of Alum Creek, died Friday, December 23, 2005 at home following a short illness.

He was born in Greenbrier County on June 4, 1940 to Mervel and Ruth Nelson.

He was retired from Volkswagon of America and was a member of the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

Milbum is survived by his wife, Sissy; sons, Mark and Wayne Nelson; daughters, Yvonne Browning and Cindy Caudill; father, Mervel Nelson and five grandchildren.

Private graveside service will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. There will be no visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Michael F. Thacker

He was an employee of Texas Steak House.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Stacy and Jared Thacker; 11 stepchildren; 22 step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; mother, Mossie Thacker; three brothers, Ralph, Harold and Mark and four half-brothers.

Service will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 28, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Rex Eugene Angel officiating. Burial will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
