Reva “Mae” (Egnor) Hicks

Mae Hicks, 88, of Cross lanes, WV formerly of Yawkey, was greeted by the Heavenly Angels on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.  She was born on August 8, 1924 in Lincoln County close to Alkol.  She was one of ten children born to Shelt and Dolly Stone Egnor, who predeceased her along with her sisters, Agnes, who died as a toddler, and Lena Griffith;  four brothers, Marvin, Raymond, Ronald and Junior; and her husband of 53 years, L. E. “Steve” Hicks.

She is survived by their son, Terry and his wife, Teresa, of Cross Lanes; sisters, Irene Pennington of Alum Creek and Mary “Brownie” Hager of Alkol, WV; and brother, Kerman of Dunedin, FL.  There are five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Amy Baptist Church at Yawkey for over fifty years.  She and Steven owned and operated Hicks Pennzoil at Yawkey for thirty years before retiring.

Her family expresses a very special Thank You to Terri Coiner for her time and friendship to Mom, and to the staff at Rose Terrace in Culloden, WV for their loving care and help.  God Bless you.

Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens at Yawkey with Pastor Butch Leadman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mae’s memory to Amy Baptist Church, 4 Walnut Dr., Yawkey, WV 25573.

 

 

 

Nellie Reba Stover Gillispie

Nellie Reba Stover Gillispie died on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Valley Healthcare Center in South Charleston.  She was preceded in death by husband Milliard Gillispie, parents Rufus and Myrtle Stover, sisters, Bessie Pauley, Madeliane Pauley and Virginia Lanier and brothers Boyd and Delmar Stover.

She is survived by sons, Charles Gillispie and wife Carol and David Gillispie and wife Judy.  She is survived by five grandchildren: Eddie, Tracey, Randy, and Jim Gillispie and Kim Gillispie Hughes.  Also, she is survived by eight great grandchildren and sisters Audrey Knight and Evelyn Bailey and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

She was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County and was a founding member in 1941 of Hilltop Baptist Church.  She was a member of Eastern Star for many years and worked as a volunteer at Thomas Memorial Hospital for over twenty years.  Most of her life was spent in the service of other people.

Service will be held at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, on Monday, February 18, 2013, at 1:00pm and will be officiated by Pastor Butch Leadman.

Friends and family are invited to visit one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Melissa and Vicky and the total staff at Valley Health Center for the kindness and love shown to Nellie during her time there.

 

David Allen (Davey) Pauley

David Allen (Davey) Pauley, 34, of Shady Springs, WV formerly of Kanawha City died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at home.  He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors.

Davey was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ann Pauley and grandparents, James and Martha Cooper.

He is survived by his son and fishing buddy, David Jacob; father, David E. Pauley; mother, Eva Cooper; siblings Tasha, Elisha and  Paul; fiancee Kimberly Fletcher and her children, Tara, Katlin and Sidney;   and grandparents, Don and Bertie Pauley; Aunts & Uncles, Roger & Brenda Satterfield, Dana & Darlene Hoffman, Barry & Annette Wheeler, Eddie & Becky Allen and Keith Pauley.  He had a host of cousins and friends who will also miss him dearly.

Service will be 4:00 pm Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.   A private burial will be held later.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Curry Funeral Home to help with expenses.

 

Mason Dale (Bradshaw) Kirk

Mason Dale (Bradshaw) Kirk

On Sunday, February 3, 2013, Mason won his long hard battle against cancer, when God called him home to receive his new body and live with him in His Kingdom of Heaven for eternity.

Mason was a loving son, brother, husband, father, nephew, cousin and friend to all who had the privilege of having him as a part of their life.  He was born in Charleston, WV, on May 26, 1987, to Debbie Kirk and Carless Bradshaw.

Mason was a Christian, who kept faith in God throughout his illness.  He attended George Washington High School and Duval High School.  He later went on to become a lineman and was last employed by Mas-Tec.  He loved coon hunting, camping, fishing and spending time with his family.

Mason is preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Lynn Kirk, maternal grandparents, Mason & Doris Kirk, paternal grandparents David & Elizabeth Bradshaw, Pa-Paw Garrett Holstein and one uncle Bubby Holstein.

He is survived by his mother, Debbie Kirk, father Carless Bradshaw (both of Alum Creek), wife, Brittany Nichols Kirk of South Charleston; brother, Nicholas (Stacy) Kirk of Charleston; sons, Codye Bell and Chase Tribble both of South Charleston, daughters, Kaden Hudson of Yawkey and most special, his baby girl, Mayleigh Grace Kirk due to arrive March 26, 2013, whom he fought so hard to see.  He is also survived by special aunt and uncle (who was like a mother and father to him), Marie and Roger Holstein (his Nunny and Bubby), his special aunt (High-tec Redneck) Sissy Kirk, and one special Uncle Mason (Hot Rod) Kirk, maternal grandmother Mary Holstein, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, which he loved so very much.

Services will be 1:00pm Thursday, February 7th at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV, with Pastors Martha Kirk and Michael Gibson officiating.  Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery at Dartmont.  Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, February 6th  from 6:00 – 8:00pm.

Patricia Ann Bell

Patricia Ann Bell, 63 of So. Charleston passed away Thursday January 31, 2013 after a long illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Rabel, son, Freddy Bell, sisters, Renee Holestine, Karen Affolter, Edna Cardin, and Penny Snodgrass, and brother Freddy Snodgrass, she also leaves behind 3 grand-daughters, 1 great grandson and 1 step grandson.

Service will be 2:00 PM Monday at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel South Charleston with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment will follow. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

 

Virginia “Rose” Tackett

Virginia “Rose” Tackett, 48, of Charleston went home Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Hubbard Hospice House.

She is survived by her daughter, Danelle McLoud; brother, Dale Fisher (Margie Gunnoe) of Sod;  sisters, Tammy Fisher (Tom Legg) and Tina McCallister all of Charleston; former husband, Richard Tackett; nieces and nephews, April and Brandon Gunnoe, Miranda Fisher (T. J. McDaniel), Mindy Fisher, Brandon Gravely, Eugene Fisher, Andrew and Madisyn McCallister and great nephew Kolton Sargent.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 5th   at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the funeral service.

Margaret Louise Rabel

Margaret Louise Rabel, 88, died peacefully at home on January 29, 2013, and will rest forever by the side of her husband, John Bernard Rabel, at Graceland Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughters Patricia (Fravel) Milam and Nancy (Steve) Canterbury of Rabel Mountain, Deborah Titcher of Charleston, Catherine (Philip) Thompson of Omaha, NE, and Martha (Dave Martin) Lilly of Edens Fork; as well as her seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was the daughter of Custer and Lula Tate Holmes and also was preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Hillenbrand and Gladys Holland, and brothers, Kenneth and Ralph Holmes. Surviving siblings are Eugene Holmes of Eleanor, Mary Phares of St. Albans and Emery Holmes of Ceres, California. She was a 1942 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and a former C&P telephone operator.
Her family will always be indebted to the comfort, care, laughter and joy provided by her loving caregivers: Lori Woody, Penny Caldwell, Patty Jones and Tonja Riddick.

Billie McCallister

Billie Gene McCallister 78 of South Charleston died Monday January 28, 2013 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his son Paul George McCallister, sisters Elsie Bonham, Macil Truman and Shirley Legg and brother Jackie McCallister.

Billie was a former employee of Russell’s Transfer Co.

He is survived by his daughers Belinda Fox, Pamela McMillion, Dreama Lenn and Sarah Golden, sons, Benjamin and Russell Lee McCallister, brothers, Eddie and Jerry McCallister, sisters, Madeline Harmon and Maybelle Duranamontri, grandchildren, Amanda Barker Fox, Rachael McElroy, Ryan Barker Fox, Trenton McMillion, Allison McCallister, Nickolas Lenn, Marina McCallister, Autumn Lenn, Zack McCallister, Courtney McCallister, and Lorena Golden, great grandchildren Zoey Fox, Clara McElroy, Jacob McCallister, and Haley Gravely

Services will be 2:00 pm Friday February 1, 2013 at Crooked Creek Church of God Greenview Road, South Charleston with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating. Burial will follow at McCallister Cemetery Alum Creek.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the church and one hour prior to the service.

Rachel Karen Dunlap Vickers

Rachel Karen Dunlap Vickers, 55 of Julian died Friday January 25, 2013 from  injuries received in a auto accident.

She was born October 16, 1957 in South Charleston and was preceded in death by her parents Lonnie E. and Beedie Dunlap and brother Walter Dunlap.

She was a graduate of Duval High School class of 1976 and a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church at Garretts Bend.

Karen loved life and her love for her animals was beyond measure. She always had a laugh and joke for everyone, always acting “Silly” and a load of fun to be around.  You didn’t leave her without a laugh. She was a loving sister as she always said (Baby sis), aunt, cousin and friend.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sisters, Ann Fowler of Julian, Linda Jones (Allen) of St. Albans and Margie Basham (Tom) of Hurricane, special friend Kathy Hill of Danville and “Special” Grand Baby, Mercedes whom she loved dearly, former husband Bobby Vickers, many nieces and nephews whom she grew up with and also many friends and her little dog “Precious”.

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday January 29, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley and Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Hayzlett Cemetery at Garretts Bend. The family will receive  friends from 12 to 2 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions toward the funeral .

Lowell C. Pauley

Lowell C. Pauley, 84, of Sod, was called home by the Lord on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Hubbard  Hospice House West from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born in Sod on August 5, 1928 to the late Homer and Mayme Pauley and was also preceded in death by sisters Barbara McCallister and Janet McCallister, brothers Quentin, Emerson, Leo and Roger Pauley, grandaughter Erin Pauley and grandson Taylor Dunlap.

He retired form Charleston Lincoln Mercury as a body repairman, served in the Army in the combat infantry Division during the Korean War, was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and a life member of the National Rifle Assoc.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Evetta Brogan Pauley, daughters; Drema (Kevin) Pauley, and Tammy Pauley, grandchildren; April (Clint) Craddock, Nikida (Lance) Aldridge, Shauna (Bryan) Cook and Parker Pauley, great grandchildren; Kaila, Kameron and Kaylor (due in March) Craddock, Griffin and Declan Aldridge, and Jayden Cook, and great and faithful friends his brother and sister-in-law Virgil and Sue Brogan all of Sod.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday January 25 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastors Randall “Butch” Brogan, Clint Craddock and Bub Anderson officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW 4768  will follow at Lively Cemetery Sod. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank everyone at St. Francis Hospital, ICU and PCU units, for their loving care. We also thank the ones at Hubbard House West, at Thomas Memorial, for their loving care.
