Terry Creech, 77, of St. Albans, passed away suddenly, on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Terry was born March 19, 1947, in Charleston, WV. He attended George Washington High School. He went to work for Carbide for 30 plus years, only to retire there. Throughout his life he shared his love for music through singing in multiple bands. He also served in the Army and was deployed to South Korea. After retirement, he became a loved and familiar face by being DJ at “Tippy’s”, formerly known as “Sandy’s,” in South Charleston, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wanda & Homer Creech.

Terry is survived by his wife, Ruby Creech; siblings, Freddy Creech and Cheryl Creech-Hawk; stepson, Richard Deer (Beth); stepdaughter, Tammy Arnold (Chuck); grandkids, Brook & Dylan Jones, Branden Deer, and Brent Deer; great grandkids, Jon Deer & Addison Deer; nieces & nephews, Josh Kyle, Heather Creech, & Charlie Morton; and his dog, Jake and cat, Fat Bob.

A memorial service in celebration of Terry’s life will be 6:00pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Banks

Barbara Jean Banks, 71, of Ashford was met at Heaven’s gate by her son, T.J. and grandson, Asher on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

Barbara was a member of Rumble Community Baptist Church. She was a loving mom, grandma, daughter, friend, and so much more. She loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure and was always there for them. When not taking care of her family, you could find her and her best friend, Betty Javins at the Goodwill thrifting. She was always doing and giving to others. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hillard and Phoeba Dunlap; son, T.J.; stepdad, Frank Carson Armstrong; and grandson, Asher.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tim; children, Greg (Kim) Banks, Stephanie (Eddie) Barker, and Jamie Banks; daughter-in-law, Christi Banks; sister, Rachael Pauley; half-sisters, Charlene Armstrong, Kathy Smith, and Sheila Cooper; grandchildren, Lillibeth, Isaac, Phoebe, Gracy, and Blake.

Service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Rumble Community Baptist Church, Ashford with Pastors Richard Harold and Randell Kinder officiating. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery, Ashford. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Patricia Ann (Trish) Wooten

Patricia Ann (Trish) Smith Wooten, age 77, born October 24, 1947 to Inez and William Smith. She was the beloved spouse of Clyde Wooten, amazing mother to Andrea Gail Wooten Willis (Christopher), and attentive grandmother to Kevin Charles. She passed peacefully at CAMC General on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 after a very brief illness.

Known to most as a dedicated teacher, Mrs. Wooten was loved by everyone who knew her. She valued education and was the first in her family to obtain a college degree from West Virginia State College where she was a Fulbright scholar; she also went on to earn a Masters +45 in Education from West Virginia University. She was a member of the National Geographic Society. She retired from Alum Creek Elementary and continued to substitute for several years.

Her joys in life included reading, spending time with her extended family, and shopping.

Patricia was the oldest of nine children and was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter (Melanie Beth), parents, her sisters Jacqueline Sue Drake, Cathey Sproles, and Sandy Bird, and her brother Willie Smith. She is survived by her sisters, Sharon Wiggin (Phillip), Carolyn Yeager (Herman), and Robin Garten, and her brother, Eric Smith (Deborah).

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at CAMC Charleston General: nurses Brittany Friend, Rebecca Ocheltree, and Judy Love as well as Dr. Phillips (ICU) and Dr. Whaley (Neuro).

Arrangements will be handled by Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV. Visitation to be held from 6-8pm on Friday, December 6th with the funeral at 1pm Saturday, December 7th with additional visitation an hour prior.

Cathy Lynn Runyan

Cathy Lynn Runyan, 57, of Alum Creek, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Cathy was an animal lover, especially horses. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Romine.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mitchell Runyan; mother and stepfather, Connie and Frankie Harper; son, Michael Runyan; daughters, Kristin Runyan and Angel Jones; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Tommy Romine, Thomas Harper; sisters, Alyssa Harper, Tiffany Ford.

Funeral service will be 1:00, Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor John Hudson officiating.

Linda Kay Hunt

Linda Kay Hunt, 81, of South Charleston passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House.

Linda owned her own tanning salon and was a caregiver. She loved being outdoors planting flowers and watching her birds and squirrels. Her grandchildren were her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Bertha Kinder Holstein; siblings, Junior, Alton, and Michael Holstein, Ozean Barker.

Linda is survived by her children, Dawn (Marty) Hoff McClure, Mary (Greg Samms) Caldwell, and Marshall (Stacy) Hoff; grandchildren, Andrew Hoff, Maggie McClure (Drake Levo), Dalton McClure, Joshua Caldwell, Kaylea Caldwell, Erika (Aaron) Martinez, Haleigh Hoff, Savannah Hoff, and Bryson Hoff; great grandchildren, Mia and Ava Martinez; siblings, John (Louann) Holstein, Frances (Al) Mathena, Sharon (Jerry) Wentz, Marilyn (David) Gillispie, Arlene Larck, and Connie Gillispie. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Service will be 2:00pm, Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Holstein Cemetery, Darmont. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Special thanks to Linda’s grandson, Andrew for the care he gave his mamaw. Also, to Hospice, especially her nurses Jo and Kim, and to Suzi Huffman, Stefani Morgan, Sharon and Jerry Wentz whose help was greatly appreciated.

Basil Baire

Basil Baire, 86, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 25, 2024, at CAMC Hospice.

Basil was a Christian and attended the Freewill Baptist Church. He was a mail carrier for Kanawha County Schools for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Haden & Mary Selbe Baire; siblings, David, Willie, Adam, Linzie, Bobby, Greathel, & Martha.

Basil is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; siblings, Junie Kirk, Joyce Pauley, Hazel Rabel, Mary Johnson, Bawfurd Baire, and William Baire.

Service will be 1:00pm, Monday, December 2, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Kenny Samms, Isaiah Hatfield, and Dwight Priestley officiating. Entombment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Steven Foster Hoffman

Steven Foster Hoffman, 72, of South Charleston, WV passed away peacefully at home in the care of his loving family on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Steve was a graduate of George Washington High School in Charleston, WV. He was a retired UMWA coal miner, with 20 years of service. He worked as a fire boss and mine foreman. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, telling jokes, and being a grandfather. He loved going on adventures and spent the last year checking things off his bucket list and making memories with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Freda Hoffman, as well as siblings, Norman Hoffman, Kenny Hoffman, Joyce Sanders, and Linda Smith.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ella Hoffman; children, Steven Hoffman II, Shannon Hoffman, and Christina Burns (Ryan); 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Connie Hawkins of Clarksburg and Carol Dudley of Hurricane; and many other beloved family members and friends.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 1:00pm, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV with Susan Nelson officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Deborah L. Adkins

Deborah L. Adkins, 73, of Charleston passed away November 22, 2024, at WVU Medicine/Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Deborah was a graduate of South Charleston High School and worked for the KB&T Trust Department, WV Bankers Association, was a bookkeeper for Cedar Coal and worked 22 years at the Charleston Mail Processing Facility.

Deborah was an Army wife and spent six years with her husband at assignments in the United States and Germany.

Deborah had strong family ties and was definitely her father’s daughter. She learned strength and determination and to always seek the right. She gave generously of her time to care for her parents during their final years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond L. Lore, Sr. and Betty Hudson Lore; and sister, Connie Lore Zimmerman.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Fletcher Adkins, Jr.; brother, Raymond L. Lore, Jr.; sister, Brenda Lore Thompson; and nieces, Jennifer L. Thekan and Nichole Bradley.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jesse Waggoner officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Donald Franklin Cantrell

Donald Franklin Cantrell, 89, of South Charleston passed away, Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from injuries sustained while he was sitting at a red light on Corridor G, 119 South, Brounland Road exit when an impaired driver behind him did not stop.

Don was a fun-loving individual who made friends everywhere he went. He attended Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod. He retired from Appalachian Tire Products after 63 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army and was a 50-year member of the South Charleston Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Cantrell and Minnie Cantrell Hatfield.

Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn “Frances” Cantrell; daughters, Diane (Greg) Nunn and Teresa (Kent) Meske; grandchildren, Justin Keefer, Andrew (Rainha) Nunn, and Meredith Meske; great grandchildren, LaKota and Khalany Williams; siblings, Charles (Gloria) Cantrell, Rose (Albert “Junior”) Quigley, and Carol Shaffer.

Funeral service will be 3:00pm, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Ben Lewis officiating. Military rites by Hamlin American Legion Post 111 will follow at conclusion of the service. Friends and family will gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Committal service with Masonic graveside rites will be 2:00pm, Sunday, November 24,2024, at Yauger Cemetery, Leon, WV.
