It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Lucy Allen on June 16, 2026. Lucy, a vibrant soul who filled our lives with warmth and joy, was born on November 6, 1931, in the small town of Packsville, West Virginia, to devoted parents, Harley and Hallie Williams. Lucy was a beacon of love and light, whose life was a testament to family, faith, and community. She married her sweetheart, Charles P. Allen, on September 19, 1949, in Charleston, WV, following his return from World War II—a union officiated by Reverend James E. Mikes that blossomed into 49 years of unwavering love and partnership. Together, they built a life rich with laughter, adventures, and enduring love until Preston’s passing. Lucy’s life was a tapestry of devotion to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Preston, her cherished granddaughter Christa (Allen) Bowen, her sisters Lily ‘Tiny’ Stover and Virginia Elswick, and her brothers Shelby ‘Bub’ Williams and James Williams.
Her legacy lives on through her surviving family: her son, Dr. James David Allen, and his wife Debbie, of Bowling Green, Ohio, and her daughter Judy (Allen) King and her husband Mark, of Hebron, KY. She was the proud grandmother of James Allen (Sarah), Allison Bustle (Josh), Jason King, and Sean King (Megan), and a loving great-grandmother to Tyler Bowen, Austin Bowen, Ariana Allen, and Elise Rowan Allen. Lucy’s heart extended beyond her immediate family, embracing countless nieces, nephews, and dear friends who enriched her life. Lucy was a woman of remarkable strength and grace, known for her big smile, laughter, and feisty spirit. Her kindness and loving nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She dedicated eighteen years of her career as a store manager, overseeing several Lawson Stores in Columbus, Ohio, and worked at Parkway in St. Albans, WV, and Tyrrell’s Market in Bowling Green, Ohio. Her faith was central to her life; she was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans, WV, and attended Dayspring Assembly of God in Bowling Green, Ohio, where her son was the pastor. Lucy’s love for her family was profound, and she expressed it through the beautiful quilts she crafted, the delectable peanut butter and chocolate fudge she made, and the homemade rolls, bread, cakes, and pies that warmed the hearts of those who gathered around her table.
She relished shopping, cherished her church community, and was delighted in the company of friends. Lucy’s radiant presence touched many lives, as evidenced by the nearly 4,000 views her son’s Facebook tribute received. Her memory will be honored at a service on June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd, Alum Creek, WV 25003. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Overflowing Hope 180, an organization dear to Lucy’s heart, at https://overflowinghope180.org/thank-you-so-very-much/.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tim Dunn and staff at Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green for their compassionate care, and to the many friends who have shared their memories and expressions of love for Lucy. Her spirit will live forever in our hearts and eternally with her Lord Jesus Christ.
Love,
The Family
