Dennis Dunlap, 88 of Sumerco, died Monday, December 10, 2001 at home after a long illness.

He was a member of McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his: Wife: Katherine; 1 Daughter: Loleta Justice (Ernie) of Sumerco; 2 Sons: Charles “Bo” (Sandra) of Alum Creek; Bernard of Sumerco; 3 Sisters: Marie VanGundy of Griffithsville; Nellie Allen of McCorkle; Neva Stump of Griffithsville; 1 Brother: Donald Dunlap of McCorkle; 11 Grandchildren 20 Great Grandchildren 4 Great Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Thursday, December 13, 2001 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Alberta Elizabeth “Billie” Shanklin Metzger, born in West Hamlin, West Virginia June 29, 1922, died December 8, 2001 in Lima, Ohio incident of age.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charlotte Alberta Mayer Shanklin and Lester William Shanklin, Sr. and her brother, Reginald Denny Shanklin

She is survived by her: 1 Son: David Holmes Metzger of Atlanta, GA; 2 Brothers: Lester W. Shanklin, Jr. (Mary) of Charleston, WV; Charles E. Shanklin (Bernice) of Niceville, FL; 1 Sister: Carroll Jean Favero (Robert) of Bakersfield, CA; 1 Aunt: Edith Whittington of Charleston, WV;

Funeral services will be Friday, December 14, 2001 at 11:00 AM at The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints, Charleston Second Ward, 2007 McClure Parkway at Sissonville Road, Charleston, W V to be conducted by Bishop Chester McCutcheon. Burial will be held at Mayer Family Cemetery, Holmes Branch Road, Charleston, WV. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Shirley Malcomb.

James “Darius” Childress

James “Darius” Childress , 80 of St. Albans, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.

He was retired from Kanawha County Board of Education, was a member of the Marlaing Church of Christ, St.Albans, and a Army Veteran of WWII where he was in the Tank Corp with the thirteenth armored division, under the third division of Pattons Army. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Eliza Snodgass Childress and a grandson Derick L. Childress. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine.

He is survived by his: Wife: Emma Lee Baker Childress; 2 Sons and Daughters-in-law: Neil and Donna Childress of Middleburg, FL; Roger L. and Sharon K. Childress of Alum Creek, WV; 1 Brother: Glenn Childress of St. Albans, WV; Grandchildren: Jeramie, Darin and Shannon Childress, and Crystal Mahon; 12 Great Grandchildren;

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, at 2:00 PM, on Monday, November 26, 2001 with Pastor Dazrell Bledsoe officiating. Burial will be held in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Frank Allen Sims, 60 of Spring Hill, departed this life Monday, November 12, 2001 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, with complications from cancer.
He was born in Bailey, Virginia and was educated in Hinton and Sandstone High Schools and attended West Virginia State College. He was retired from Union Carbide where he worked as a draftsman. He was also a lead guitarist with the late Bill Browning and the Hilanders. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earshel and Ozella French Sims.
