Rodney Lee Baldwin, 40, of Sod, died suddenly at home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.  He was predeceased by his wife, Heather Nicole Baldwin.

He was employed as a field tech at Lincoln Public Service District.

He is survived by his parents, Robert & Brenda Baldwin, brother, Jeff (Candice) Baldwin, two nieces, Ariel Nicole & Emily Faith Baldwin.

No services are planned at this time.

Captain Paul W. McCallister

Capt. Paul W. McCallister, 55, of Yawkey, WV, answered his last call at 0201 Sunday, December 16, 2018, at CAMC General Division Emergency Room in Charleston.

At the age of 14, Paul started as a Junior Firefighter and served 41 years in Emergency Services here and around the country, including Hurricane’s Florence and Erma. Paul also served on the Board of Directors of both Duval and Lincoln Emergency Services when they merged to form the countywide EMS System. He was an EMS Instructor and mentor to many paramedics. Paul was a Christian and had served as a Chaplain for the KCEAA and most recently serving as a Captain and Shift Commander for Kanawha County EMS doing what he loved best wanting no praise for the many hours worked and the many acts of heroism.

Paul was preceded in death by his dad, Charles McCallister.

He is survived by his wife Megan, children Justin and Haley, parents Vallie (Sam) Cobb, brothers Charles Jr. (Amy) of Ripley, Robert R. (Rita) of Sod, Kerry D. (Darlene) of Yawkey, Paul (Tracey) of Austin, TX, sisters Angel (Steve) Chinn of Alum Creek, Sandra Rea of Sod, Sarah F. Breedlove of Yawkey, Amy, Amanda and Alisa McCallister all of Illinois, and many beloved nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Paul.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church, 175 McCorkle Road, Sod, WV, with Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens in Yawkey with Full EMS Honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers,  donations are being accepted for the future Paul W. McCallister Scholarship Foundation for EMS/Paramedic Students.

Paul loved to mentor young future medics and was a wonderful teacher.   Let this be his legacy.

 

Myrtle H. Keeler

Myrtle H. Keeler, 88, of Saint Albans, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2018.  She was born in Charleston, WV on April 4, 1930.

Myrtle was a lifelong resident of St. Albans, WV and a devoted member of Highlawn Baptist Church.  She worked in her younger years as an executive secretary at C&P Telephone Company and later as the office manager at Means Stenomask Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband James W. Keeler, her mother and father, Joe & Donnie Holmes of Tuppers Creek, WV, brother, Kearl Holmes of MI, and sister, Betty Walker of Tuppers Creek.

She is survived by her daughters Cathy Keeler (Paul Ruppert) of Scott Depot, Beth Sturgill (Jeff) of St. Albans and son, Bill Keeler (Darcy) of Dacula, GA.  She had nine adoring grandchildren, Mike, AJ, Wesley, Bart, Levi, Lindsay, Grant, Luke and Lance.  She also had nine great-grandchildren.  She was loved by many including her friend and caregiver Linda Mellert of St. Albans.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to Hubbard Hospice West for their care in her final days.

Service will be 3:00pm Saturday, December 15th at Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans with Rob Ely officiating.  Family & friends will gather two hours prior to the service.  Burial will be 2:00pm Sunday, December 16th at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Sissonville.

 

 

Bill “Larry” Doerr

Bill “Larry” Doerr, 60, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 with his wife at his side. He was born on August 13, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late William Lorom and Jean Helen (Dickie) Doerr.

Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Montana University; he was a retired Contracting Specialist at USDA/NCRS. He served in the U.S. Army.  Bill will be remembered for his deep love of family, friends, farming, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Diana (Dunlap) Doerr; daughters, Jessica (Jeff) Powers of Valley Grove, and Paula Dunlap, of Fairmont; sisters, Karin (Dave Egglestone) Doerr of California, and Kathi (Jim) Mitchell, of Ohio; grandchildren, Sam Powers and Audrey Powers; adopted family, Shawn and Angie Thobois, of Fairmont, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Rd, Alum Creek, WV on Saturday, December 15 at 3 p.m.,with one hour prior visitation and Pastor Edward Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Orchard Hills Memorial Gardens in Yawkey with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768,

Specialist Austin Cole Stratton, 19, of Sod, WV, went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 1, 2018.

SPC Stratton, a combat engineer with the WV Army National Guard, 119th Sapper Company, was very proud of being a soldier and serving his state and country.

Austin was a sophomore in the engineering program at WVU, a 2017 graduate of Lincoln County High School where he played on the football and baseball teams all 4 years and was a member of the Robotics Team 6815V for 2 years.

He was predeceased by his great-grandparents Nana, Grandy, and Bob.

Austin is survived by his mother and step-father Renee and Scott Nelson, father, and step-mother Eric and Kwan Stratton, sisters Haley Stratton and Sam Nelson, maternal grandparents Paula and John Dickens and Patricia Nelson, paternal grandparents Ann and Brooks Stratton, great grandparents Margaret and Bill Chafin, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and brothers-at-arms.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Chaplain Mike Allen officiating.   Entombment will follow at the Cunningham Memorial Park Upper Mausoleum in St. Albans. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.

 

Asher Andrew Douglas Banks

Asher Andrew Douglas Banks, 4 days old, of Griffithsville, WV, went to the arms of Jesus Sunday, December 2, 2018.
He is survived by his parents, Jamie and Ashley Banks; twin sister Phoebe Sue, sister Lilibeth, brother Isaac, and grandparents, Timothy and Barbara Banks.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, at the Barker Cemetery at Mud River with Pastor Clint Craddock officiating.

 

Virginia W. “Tean” Kidd

Virginia Westean “Tean” Kidd, 98, of Alum Creek, Lincoln County, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2018, after a long illness. She was born January 24, 1920, in Sod to Wesley & Emmer Midkiff, and was the oldest living member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Sod.

Virginia became a born-again Christian at 12 years of age, when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She graduated from Duval High School in 1939 and on September 30, 1939, married the love of her life, Lloyd M. Kidd. They were married for 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Midkiff & Emmer Midkiff Loftis, stepfather, Vaden Loftis, sisters, Dessie Johnson and Doris Marker, brother, Asa Ray Midkiff, half-brother, Desmond Loftis, and husband, Lloyd M. Kidd.

Virginia is survived by daughter, Annette (Roger) Parcell of Alum Creek, daughter-in-law, Marlene Kidd of Alexandria, VA, sons, Richard and Lannie (Patty) Kidd of Alum Creek, grandsons, Darrin (Leslie) Williams of Alum Creek, Chris (Tammy) Kidd and Jonathan Kidd of Alexandria, VA, great-granddaughter, Renee Kidd of Alexandria, VA, great-grandson, Ethan Williams of Alum Creek, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Wednesday, December 5th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Butch Leadman, Frank Chapman and Clyde Gwin officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Michael L. Pauley

Michael Leigh Pauley, 68, of South Charleston, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 30, 2018. He was born September 15, 1950, at Staats Hospital on the elevator. His mother shared with him that life would always be full of ups and downs.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Cleo Pauley, father-in-law JR Stewart, mother-in-law, Anna Lee Stewart, sister Diana Curry, brothers-in-law Larry King and Danny Stewart.

Mike was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Garrett’s Bend, WV, where he served as song leader, choir director and Sunday school teacher. He retired from Clearon Corporation. Mike served in the U. S. Army First Infantry stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and was known for his red and white 1957 Chevrolet. He is loved and missed by many.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Drema Pauley, daughter Erica (Jason) Sampson of Charleston, son Jody (Beth) Pauley of Dunbar, grandchildren Jack Pauley and Elias Sampson, sister Patty King of Sod, brother Steve (Gloria) Pauley of Scranton, PA, a host of nephews and nieces, and special extended family Tim and Dinah McCallister of South Charleston, Cyrena, Matt, Ranger and Tennessee Parsons of Sod, Casey, Mike and Daniel Patick of Huntington, his Church Family and Car Show Friends.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with his son Pastor Jody Pauley, Pastor Homer Hensley, Mark Ruby and Jacob Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston, WV, with Military Graveside Rites.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gwendolyn Fonebi, Fifi, the staff at the CAMC Cancer Center, Nurses and Hospitalists on 4C at CAMC General Hospital and Kanawha Hospice for their loving care and kindness.

Jason Lee Runyon

Jason Lee Runyon, 46, of Sod, WV, was born on October 9, 1972 and died suddenly Monday, November 26, 2018, from an accidental gunshot wound.

He was a 1991 graduate of Duval High School and later graduated from Wilson Technical Institute in Wilson, NC.   Jason worked as a heavy equipment operator for Kanawha Stone and various other companies in WV and NC.

Jason enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved playing his guitar.

On March 31, 1996, he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized that day by his uncle Damon Dunlap and Pastor Roe Smith.   Mistakes, problems, and difficulties followed, but he always knew that God loved him and was in control.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents Lee and Lorraine Hornsby and William and Verna Runyon.

Left to cherish his memories and deeply mourn his death are his parents Louie and Connie Runyon, sister Jenny (Jeremy) Angel of Saint Paris, Ohio, son Eli Runyon of Sumerco, and baby Isaac, the son of his heart,  girlfriend Mindy, two nephews, a niece, several aunts, uncles and many cousins and friends.

Those who knew Jason will always remember and laugh about his funny stories and tall tales.

A celebration of his life will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod.  The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.

The family sends a special love and appreciation to Pastor Isaiah Hatfield and Minister Kim Matthews who will be officiating the service.

 

Darrell Eugene Harmon

Darrell Eugene Harmon, 76, of St. Albans, WV, went home Thursday, November 22, 2018 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

He was a Master Electrician and served in the U. S. Navy from 1960 – 1964.   He  was of the Baptist faith.

Darrell was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy L. Harmon, sister Emma Pena`, Roxie Pitts, Stella Markland, Margaret Plye,  and Mary Miller, brothers Denzil and David Harmon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Pearl, daughter Susan, sisters Vera Miller, Velma Cabelo and Patsy Harmon, brothers Kessel (Norma), Donald and Kyle Harmon.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Griffithsville.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
