Geraldine Marker, 78, of Sumerco, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2019, at home surrounded by love.
She was the daughter of the late Randall and Macil Gillenwater of Sumerco.
Geraldine was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She was as sweet as the flowers she loved and touched many lives. She enjoyed life in all seasons and going to the Amish Country with her family. Geraldine will be greatly missed, but we will be together again in Heaven one day. Oh, what a day that will be!
She retired from the U. S. Postal Service with 25 years service at the Sumerco Post Office. She was an active member of the McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church, which she dearly loved.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jackie; siblings, Patty Justice and Lloyd Gillenwater.
Geraldine is survived by daughters, Libby (Ronnie) Pauley and Denise (Davy) Pauley; brother, David Gillenwater; sister, Bonnie Clark; grandsons, Wes and Brad Pauley and granddaughters, Chantel (Blake) Tudor and Kaylee Pauley; and many other family and friends.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Isaiah Hatfield and Johm Gorrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery in Sod.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
We would like to express a special thank you to our family, friends, and church family for their prayers, food, visits, and many cards during her illness. The staff at HospiceCare of Charleston was a blessing and greatly appreciated.

Amy Marie Combs

Amy Marie Combs, 39, of Charleston, WV, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with melanoma on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Dale Snodgrass and Andy Kessock;  and step-sister, Kara Stowers.

Amy was a member of Bible Center Church and a physician’s assistant for Drs. Dewitt & Gibson in Spring Hill.

She is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Chris; son, Andrew;  mother and step-father, Beth & Lawrence Nesselrodt; brother,  Danah (Megan) Mallory and their daughters, Macy and Lilly who dearly loved their Aunt Sue Sue; and grandparents, Lillian Snodgrass and Janet Kessock.  Amy is also survived by her father and step-mother, Bob & Kim Kessock; step-sister,  Jessica Stowers and her son, Carson;  father-in-law & mother-in-law,  Bert & Sharon Combs;  sister-in-law,  Michelle (Jason) Leaor and their daughter Emily;  and many other family members, friends and patients who will greatly miss Amy.

Service will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Bible Center Church, 100 Bible Center Dr., Charleston, WV, with Pastors Matt Friend and Chuck Goddard officiating.  Family and friends will gather two hours prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Robert Lee Smith

Robert Lee Smith, 73, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

He was a Purchasing Manager, a Human Resource Manager, Safety Manager, a small coal company Operator, a partner with ESI an Environmental Consulting Co.,  and owner of Trey Publishing.   Early on in life he worked several years for C&O and B&O Railroads.

Robert was a member of the Foundations Church of God in St. Albans  and a former pastor of several churches.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during the Vietnam War and a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Wilma Downey Smith and sister, Sue Brogan.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Libby; sons Todd and Chad (Tina) Smith; brothers Chuck (Carol) and David (Wanda) Smith; sisters Annette Mitchell, Roberta Smith (Jim Hickman) and Dawnetta (Greg) Cook; brother-in-law Virgil Brogan; grandchildren Jadyn, Karyna, Brandon, and Cameron; many nephews, nieces, family members, and friends who will greatly miss him and his granddog Shrek.

Service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Rev. Chuck Smith, Pastor Chris Colagrosso, and Rev. David Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19,  at  the  Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Dr., Dunbar, WV, with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

Donna Jean Bradshaw

Donna Jean Bradshaw, 71, of Marmet, WV, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the Marmet Nursing Home, Marmet, WV.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her son, Laddie Midkiff.
Jean is survived by her niece Anna Short of Charleston.
A Graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Forks of Coal Cemetery in Alum Creek, WV.

Glenda Joyce Conrad

Glenda Joyce Conrad “Joy”, age 61 formerly of Massey MD, went to be with the Lord after her long battle with cancer on Saturday August 3rd at her home in Sod, WV.

Born in Elkton, MD Joy was the daughter of the late George “Reds” and Glada (McCormick) Edwards.

Joy worked as an activities coordinator for several nursing homes in the Kent County area for several years. Prior to that worked as a short order cook for the former Dixie Jo’s restaurant in Galena.

Joy is survived by her three sons, Charles (Leslie) Burris; Russell Conrad; Allen (Heather) Conrad; a brother Barry (Mary) Edwards; two sisters Edith (Frank) Johnson; Frances (David) Schultz; Five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of Joys life will be held at the Millington Fire Company Hall on August 17th at 1:00pm. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories of Joy at that time.

Harley Daniel Roberts

Harley Daniel Roberts, Sr., 72, of Alkol, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Hubbard Hospice-West, South Charleston.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Lucy Roberts.

Harley is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carletha, daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Jonathan) Huffman, Sumerco, son, Harley D. Roberts II, Alkol, grandchildren, Chaz (Marina) Losito, and Lillyana Losito, and great-grandchildren, Blake and Jake.  He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Rose (Forest) Johnston, Harry (Phyllis) Roberts, Julia Roberts, Robert (Nora) Roberts, Rebecca (Walter) Cook, Arthur (Mary) Roberts, Maggie Abbott, Lula Belle Hayes, Mable Waits and Buster (Norma) Roberts.

Harley was a former employee of Alum Creek Exxon for 19 years and he also worked in the logging industry as a truck driver.  He was an US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Sumerco Church of God, and he loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing.

Service will be 1:00pm Thursday, August 1st,  at Sumerco Church of God, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow at the Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

Charlotte G. Hylton

Charlotte G. Hylton, 63, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019, at CAMC – Memorial Division.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Bethel Lane and husband, Darrell Hylton.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Donnie) Perdue, Ashford and granddaughter, Heather Perdue of Ashford, sisters, Linda (James) Sizemore, North Carolina and Angie (Roberto) Aponte, North Carolina, and brother Eddie Lane, North Carolina.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.

She worked as a bus driver for Head Start for the school system.  She enjoyed quilting and crafting.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Friday, August 2, 2019, at Holestein Cemetery, Dartmont.  Family and friends will gather from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

On July 26, 2019, Mr. Joseph “Jack” Griffith, 93, of Morrisvale, WV went home to be with the Lord. Jack was a loving husband and father, and the perfect example of what a “Pa Paw” should be. He believed in being a hard worker and had retired from the Boone County Board of Education where he had driven a school bus for 38 years. He had a green thumb and was known for the gardens he raised. Throughout his life he enjoyed gardening and hunting, but most of all spending time with his family. He had a big heart, a wonderfully, playful sense of humor, and he never forgot a detail to a story.

He was the son of the late Elmer and Cleo Griffith of Morrisvale, WV.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, son Michael Griffith (Brenda), sister Vivian Parsons, and brother Delano Griffith.

He is survived by his loving family: daughter Ann Gillispie and husband Charles of Julian, WV, daughter in law Brenda Griffith of St. Albans, WV, grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, and Anthony Gillispie, Tammy Harphold, and Jodie Griffith.

Mr. Griffith also has 7 great-grand children.

Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday July 28, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, WV, with the Reverend Jackie Clark presiding.

Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.

Charlotte Louise Holestine, 83, of Alum Creek, born April 15th 1936 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2019 after a short battle with cancer.   Her last few days were spent at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.  The family would like to thank them for their warm and compassionate care provided for their mother during her stay.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Frankie & Nellie Davis, husband, Frankie Edward Holestine, son,Ralph Edward Holestine and her sisters, Demi O. Davis and Rosalita Faulks Davis and brothers, James L. Davis and Cornelius Davis.

She was a graduate of Washington District High School.  After graduation in 1956 she married Frankie Edward Holestine, they raised six children, Frankie Jr., Holestine of South Charleston, David Wayne Holestine of Charleston, Pamala Charlotte Pratt of South Charleston, Arlie Bronson Holestine of Charleston, and Tamela Louise Means of South Charleston.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brittany Holestine of St. Albans, Brandon Holestine of Cleveland, OH, David Jr. Holestine of Florida, Tracy Shive of North Carolina, Jeremy Holestine of Hurricane, Christopher Holestine of Dunbar, and Aleshia Means of Charleston,  21 wonderful great-grandchildren, sister, Barbara Johnson of North Carolina, with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 1:00pm Tuesday, July 30, 2019 with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating at Curry Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00pm Monday, July 29th.

Peggy Ann Willis

Peggy Ann Willis, age 52 of South Charleston, WV, passed away July 23, 2019.

She is survived by her parents, Kenneth & Patricia Kidd, her sister, Tammy Hart and brother-in-law Donald Hart, nephew, Taylor Hart, his wife, Allison Hart and their children, Riley and Hayden.  She is also survived by her children, Jacob Willis and Amanda Willis.  Peggy was a loving grandmother to Jameson Snead.

Services will be 6:00pm at Curry Funeral Home, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 with John Koster  officiating.  Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
