Elsie Faye Pauley, 93, of Alum Creek West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 22nd, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Elsie was a homemaker, member of Alum Creek Church of Christ, loving wife, mother, Nana, and friend. She was also an avid QVC shopper, and everyone knew to get to the table quick for her famous mashed potatoes and homemade biscuits.

Elsie is proceeded in death by her parents Andrew and Susan Turley, siblings Toy Turley, Louise Elkins, and Dixie Kidd, her loving husband Ray Pauley, daughter Deidra Pauley, and son-in-law Bob Adkins.

She is survived by her sister Margaret Jackson, daughter Portia Adkins, son Todd (Laura) Pauley, grandchildren Heather Pauley (Mike Starcher), Kirstin McCallister, Erica Pauley, BreAnna Pauley, Gerrica Pauley (Justin Holstein), great grandchildren Kiara (Tyler) Lucas, Katie Pauley (Chase Parsons), Paul Dotson IV (Jessie Gilmore), Kaleb Dotson, Gerald Egnor, Richard Egnor, Trinity Egnor, Harper Hudson, and Amyiah Harricks and a host of nieces and nephews. She was also loved dearly by special friends Phyllis Nunn, Phyllis Debord, Lorienne Caudill, and all of her brothers and sisters in Christ.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to HospiceCare and Dignity Home Health Care for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Elsie, and for the assistance and guidance provided to caretakers Portia Adkins and Kirstin McCallister. An extra special thanks to nurse, Ms. Lindsey and Hospice caregivers, Ms. Amelia, Ms. Amber, and Jamie for going above and beyond in Elsie’s time of need. You are all truly angels on Earth.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Joseph Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek.

Patricia Joyce Marshall

Patricia Joyce Marshall of Charleston, WV was born September 23, 1936. She followed God home on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at WVU Thomas Hospital.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Percy D. Daugherty and Stella Virginia Totten Daugherty; brother, Dee Daugherty; and 3 younger siblings.

Patricia, or Pat as she was known, was and will always be the loving mother and grandmother who went above and beyond for her surviving son, Steven Oscar Marshall; daughter, Jenny Marshall Williams; and grandson, Shaun Steven Marshall. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Daugherty and his children, Jan, Beth, Tony, and Dwayne; her sister, Julia Daugherty and her son, Ron in addition to many great nieces and nephews.

Pat was a teaching assistant for 30+ years for the Kanawha County Board of Education. She worked at several schools over the years, starting her career at Alum Creek Elementary. She took classes to work with and educate special needs pre-school and kindergarten children. She loved and cared for each child.

Pat was a beautiful soul with a high soprano voice and loved to sing in church. She shared God’s praises with that beautiful voice.

Pat will be remembered for her caring heart by past students, friends, and family. She will be remembered for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls that she always gave as holiday gifts. She will be remembered for each blanket and set of baby clothes she crocheted with love. She will be remembered for the love, care and thoughtfulness she shared.

Her family would like to give special thanks to the ICU/CCU team at WVU Thomas Hospital who cared for their mother as if she was a member of their family.

Pat did not want a viewing or service. She wanted a simple graveside service. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date. All will be welcome.

Tommy Sherlock Bowles

October 27, 1937 — July 19, 2025
Tommy Sherlock Bowles 87, of Ashford, WV traveled to his eternal heavenly home Saturday July 19th at CAMC Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones following a short illness. He was born October 27th 1937, son of the late William “Bill” Scott Bowles and Biddie Opal (Holstein) Bowles.

He retired from Chemical Leaman where he proudly earned the 30-year safe driving award and was just short of 3 million safe road miles as a CDL driver. He was a longtime member of Ashford Church of God where he was a faithful servant of our all mighty God. He was a Freemason and attended Odell Lodge #115 in Madison, WV. He was also a Shriner and Scottish Rite member for over 50 years.

Tommy was a true entertainer from his top-notch guitar skills to his witty responses and jokes. Tommy was a pillar of strength to his family and all who knew him and he will be profoundly missed. His love and legacy will live on in our hearts on earth until we are reunited in our heavenly home.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Ellhue, Theodore “Teddy” and Bill “Junior” Bowles; his sisters Thelma Barnett, Argatha Caldwell, Sylvia Sharp, Anna Belle Perdue, Irene Bowles, and Marceline Hadley; daughter Angela “Angie” Funtanellas; grandchildren Billy Bowles and Elisha Saylor.

He is survived by his significant other, Donna Catheryn Morgan; sons, Joseph “Joe” (Julie) Morgan, Scotty Bowles, and Kevin “Pencil” Bowles; daughters, Sherry Bowles Kersey, Consuelo “Connie” (Chad) Cline, and Lisa Bowles; brother, Ernest Bowles; sister, Betty Jo Perdue; along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Service will be 3:00pm Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Ashford Church of God with Pastor Randall Kinder officiating. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Jerry David “Hub” Adkins, 73, of Ashford, WV departed his earthly life on July 19, 2025, to reunite with his son in his Heavenly home. He passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.

Hub was born March 5, 1952, to the late Keister Adkins and Janet Estep Adkins of Ashford, WV. He was also preceded in death by his son Nicholas Adkins; and his sister, Brytha Holstein.

Hub is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of 50 years, Rochelle Adkins; daughter, Nichole (Frank) Chambers of Foster, WV; brother, Alan (Brenda) Adkins of Sevierville, TN; grandchildren, Anna Heike, David (Taylor) Adkins, Valley Chambers, Katelyn Adkins, Nicki Adkins, Isaac Adkins, Keely Shaffer, and Braden Morton; great grandchildren, Ronan Heike and Asher Vass; special aunt, Evelyn Adkins. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Hub devoted his entire life to his family. He worked as an underground coal miner for more than 40 years to provide the best life possible for his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting pool with his friends every Tuesday. Hub was a deacon and a choir leader of the Rumble Community Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful member for 45 years. He loved his church family dearly.

Service will be 12:00pm, Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Rumble Community Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Family and friends will gather 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Eddie Joe Childers

Eddie Joe Childers, 75, son of the late Freddie A. Childers and Velma G. Childers is now at peace with the Lord. He passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston.

He is survived by his greatest joys in life, his wife and best friend of 55 years, Linda; his 4 children, David “Greg” (Rachel), Benjamin “Ben”, Jeremy “Jerry” (MyShannon), and Carrie (Ben) DeVere; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and friends, Alfred Newman and Randy Sheppard.

Private services will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Richard Dewayne Winell

Richard Dewayne Winell, 49 of St. Albans passed away on Wednesday July 9, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Dewayne was an accomplished construction worker that could build, fix, or repair anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard and Brenda Johnson Winell, his cousin; Larry Parsons.

Dewayne is survived by his wife, Ashley Winell; Sons, Richard Winell (Hope), Jacob Winell (Makenna), Michael Winell (Christine), Landon Easter (Laci), and his daughter; Alyvia Winell.

He is also survived by his brother, Scott Boggs (April); his sister, April Bradshaw (Big Dave); grandchildren; Damian, Ryker, Eliana, Daniel, Emily, Sophia, Elias, and Sylas; cousins Hilda Parsons and Devon Carter; aunts, Susan, Maggie, and Jewel; uncles, Alfred and Billy; mother-in-law, Kelly Devary, father-in-law, Dave Easter, and brother-in-law, Alec Myers.

Dewayne will be cremated and a service to honor his life will be held at a later date.

James Alford Pauley

James Alford Pauley
1938 – 2025

James Alford Pauley, age 87 of Tomball, TX passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was born on June 21, 1938, in Alum Creek, WV, the son of the late Thelma and Garnet “Buck” Pauley.

James grew up in a large family and moved to Cleveland, OH in his late teens, beginning a forty-four-year career at Alcoa. He was the beloved husband of the late June (Baisden); dear father of the late Jim and Tim (Nicole); loving grandfather to Tyler, Mitchell and Dylan; preceded in death by brothers: Wilson, John, Bernard and sisters: Susie, Jo Ann and Betty. In the fall of 1969, June and James put down roots in North Royalton, OH away from the big city, to raise their family.

James also had plans for his newfound acreage. His passion for gardening would produce fifty-four years of abundant gardens. In recent years there were less vegetables and more flowers, but always grown with the care and respect that he showed others. While failing health necessitated a move to Houston, TX in the fall of 2024, James thrived in his new setting, even tending to a few of his cherished tomato plants on the patio.

Friends will be received Friday, July 11, 2025, from 5-8 PM at Babitt Busch Funeral Home (9350 Ridge Rd. North Royalton, OH 44133).

Memorial service will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home (2097 Childress Rd. Alum Creek, WV 25003). Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park. Friends and family will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carla Janette (Clonch) Pauley of St. Albans, WV, was born August 12, 1963 and passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025, at home of a long illness. Preceding her in death was her father, Carl Clonch, In-laws, Charles and Mildred Pauley, her grandparents, Don and Gladys Belcher and Viva Jones and niece, Christina Larch.

Carla is survived by her husband of 47 years, Billy Pauley, sons, Brian, Chuck, Chad (Dawn) Pauley, mother, Norma McGraw, sister, Sandra (Tony) Pauley, grandchildren, Brian (Anna), Makenzie, Alexis, Paxton, Savannah, and Whitney and several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed the outdoors.

Service will be 2:00pm Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.

Friends and Family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edward Junior McClure

Junior McClure
June 26th, 1943 – June 22nd, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward “Junior” McClure announces his passing.

Junior born in Lincoln County, was a resident of Alum Creek, WV for 70 years and has been a resident of Dunbar, WV for the last 10 years. He worked at Bob’s Fas Chek in Alum Creek for 32 years before beginning his own lawn care business from which he officially retired at the age of 79. He was a hard-working man, and a wonderful father. He loved his mother dearly and they shared a special friendship and bond.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Lonnie Stewart McClure and mother, Mary Katherine McClure both from Sod, WV.

Junior is survived by his three children, Dwayne McClure (Jamie) of St Albans, their children Alexa, Ezekial and Emma. Gloria Richardson (Josh) of Dunbar, their children Jonah (affectionally called Jonah Bear), Samuel and Benjamin. Olivia Boggess (Jeremy) of Dunbar, their children Aubree (affectionally called Aub-e-dob-e) and Brayden.

There will be a graveside service held on Monday July 7th, 2025, at 7pm at Lively Cemetery on McCorkle Road Route 214 Alum Creek WV, all are welcome to attend.

William Fenton Kirk
